[WOTC] The New War: XCOM 2 Ultimate Mod Collection

I'm back-back for some more pain XCOM and this collection is up and running once again, as for January 2025 (Happy New Year). Few notable bugs and issues:

  • There is something wrong with changing the weapon pattern, sometimes it doesn't work
  • SPARK mag weapon is now behind 2nd Coilguns research (though you can still use Spark Arsenal Weapons)
  • Sometimes Lightning Hands doesn't work with handgun in primary slot - be mindful of that
  • This was not tested in late game. It might be completely broken, or play just fine; I will let you know once I'm there
  • This modlist is punishing. I don't recommend Ironman runs, especially with White Screen Bug, which is a result of camera mods - save & reload works, but it happens from time to time

  • MOCX & ABA - doesn't need fixing, it's a false positive


    Main focus: variety. There are over 300 gameplay mods, cosmetics not included. Revolves around RPG Overhaul and A Better Advent with many useful items, fixes, changes and improvements. This list might grow.

    This modlist is intended to be played on Legend difficulty. With lower difficulties you might not experience the same fun, as it's probably going to be much easier.

    I wanted to replicate the Long War experience without using LW 2/LWOTC and I feel like this is as close as we can get.

    It's all compatible with each other.

    Balanced? I don't know. I threw in great number of hardcore enemies and mods but there are many cool things for XCOM as well. After few mission on Legendary, I would say it's tough but not impossible... yet.

    I recommend starting squad size set to 6. I also heavily tweaked the XP values for longer runs (so you can play more with your sergeants). Suggested values (Legendary difficulty):

    *You can subscribe to all and play but I suggest using Alternative Mod Launcher. Two mods are conflicting with each other, can be fixed by simple change in the .ini, look up the descriptions. One is false positive.

    **** Remember to clear your config! It solves most of the problems for mods not working and crashing! Remember to read mod descriptions as well! Just because it works well for me, doesn't mean it will work flawlessly for you. This is just a collection of mods and while I'm all happy to answer your questions, I am not a mod author and won't fix your issues ****

    I decided to remove the mods which were annoying, buggy or just not very fun. Some map mods were added or replaced
  • Removed MOCX and Rebellious MOCX - MOCX became quite a bit of mess after a while and I honestly never felt like they offer much
  • Removed MEC Troopers - there is already a lot of stuff that requires to take your soldier out of commission and I just couldn't justify it
  • Tactical X4 - I used this less than 5 times over the last few years of XCOM, I just fail to see the benefits of it
  • Berserker Omega - not very fun enemy and I am a sucker for tough guys
  • Added new eclipsezr maps and replaced the buggy Cave one with new version
  • Replaced the POI mod with a better one
  • Added First Aid by Iridar

    Update 24/11/2023
    This update added few mods, which for some reasons were missing from the list but I had them subscribed. I also tweaked the config for Shield Rework mod, so now it includes changes from the mod and limited amount of shield points (I set this as 2/6/10 instead of 6/10/14)
  • Added: Hack Plus, 2 new maps, Medikit Expansion, More Skill Events, Overwatch Speed Up, Unstuck Suppression, Mission Beneath Suspicion
  • Added Rookies Equip Anything - this has minor effect on the main weapon being unequipped when you click 'Unequip Barracks', since game tries to equip first thing on the list (in my game it's holotargeter, so it doesn't show as actually held in arms)
  • Replaced A Better Militia with Militia Overhaul




    If you like my collection, you might want to check out the cosmetics collection. You will find there more down-to-earth looks for your soldiers, instead of superheroes armors or cute anime girls (there are however few high tech looking armor mods). I also grabbed very few voicepacks with less shouting - it wasn't really realistic to shout "COVER ME!" while moving in stealth.
