Updated 2023.05.20 - Please read the docs. Current version is 4.0.0. Major updates, including adding A Harder War (Requiem for Man) mods, and changing evac functionality.

This core collection contains the primary overhauls and gameplay modifying mods; including a selection of DerBK's A Better Advent mods, Yellow Alert, [WOTC] Psionics Ex Machina 3.0, Complicated Red Fog , [WOTC] Iridar's Five Tier Weapon Overhaul - Vanilla Balance, and Diverse Alien Pods by Force Level along with complimentary mods and fixes as well as a few mods that make the Chosen more of a challenge.

Note that Steam now blocks Google Docs, so I've moved the docs to Pastebin temporarily

There are now eight optional collections. These are designed for you to choose mods to run with the The Deacon's War, do not enable all of the mods in these collections, that will likely cause big problems. Pick a few that you like and test it out.

Note If you add weapons from my collections and are running Prototype Armory you will need to do some config edits to make them buildable. Iridar's Five Tier Weapon Overhaul and the Prototype Armory mod both have detailed instructions on how to accomplish this :

The Deacon's War - Basic Training is a collection for new XCOM 2 players who are interested in trying out a modded experience. There are no major changes to game-play and it can be considered a Vanilla+ campaign. The goal is to provide new players with a chance to see mods in action and to try their hand at modding the game for themselves. New for 2022!

The Deacon's War Collection of Enemies, Raider Factions, and SitReps includes more enemies, raiders, and other factions. This collection works with the other collections, just be forewarned adding too many enemies can cause issues if you run a lot of map mods, or customization mods. Very specifically, Retaliation missions can be reduced to a stuttering crash fest if you over do it. Just bear this all in mind.

The Deacon's War Optional Mods Collection includes mods that are not compatible with all of the different overhauls and so I've set them aside and you can choose the ones that work best for your load order

The Deacon's War Voicepacks and Customization collection . A bunch of customization and voice pack mods.

The Deacon's War Add - On Optional Soldier Classes adds Soldier Classes that are compatible out of the box with Proficiency Classes and a few will also work with RPGO if you grab the correct bridge mod.

The Deacon's War Add On - [WOTC] Proficiency Class Pack Edition includes everything you need to run the Proficiency Class Pack with the Core Colleciton. It is fully compatible with SO:CI but not RPGO.

The Deacon's War Add On - RPG Overhaul Edition includes everything you need to run RPGO with the Core Colelciton, it is compatible with SO:CI but not Proficiency Classes

The Deacon's War Add On - Strategy Overhaul: Covert Infiltration Edition is built to work with the Core Collection and SO:CI. It is compatible with either RPGO or Proficiency Classes but not both.

The Deacon's War Add On - Optional Weapon Mods includes weapon mods that should be compatible with everything, some mods need tweaking to work with SO:CI's Prototype Armoury so be especially vigilant and read everything carefully. You may need to make some configuration changes.

The Deacon's War Add On - Optional Difficulty Enhancements is for players who find the Core Collection to be lacking difficulty options. There is a reasonable chance that adding a few of these will cause insanity and rage quitting.

Note: This collection is not compatible with LWOTC or non-WOTC campaigns including LW2.

Stability Notes (from my experience, YMMV):

  • The number of mods that you are subscribed to is rarely the issue when your game crashes. It is usually the combination of mods that is the major factor in crashing, stuttering, and general instability. Choose your mod list carefully, especially noting mods that mods created for Vanilla XCOM2 may not work with WOTC.

  • Be sure that your Windows installation, Steam, and your Anti-Virus program are all up to date. Some random crashing and slowness can be attributed to other computer processes aside from XCOM2. Don't immediately assume that the issue is with a mod without first ensuring that your PC is functioning properly. To that end reboot your computer if you have repeated CTD and save/reload if your tactical mission has graphical issues.

  • For the love of all that is holy read every mod description and at least one page of comments for every mod that you install. This is not optional. Taking a few hours to understand how your mods interact will save you days of agony later on.

  • Every player's mod list is unique even if you follow collections like this one. No one will be able to fix the issues you have if you do not provide detailed explanations including screen shots, mod lists, and launch logs. Complaining that you, "have 500 mods installed and my game crashes, why? plz hlp" will never lead to resolution.

  • Install the Alternate Mod Launcher (AML) [github.com] and learn how to use it. Spend as much time as you need to get familiar with it, you will improve your experience 1000%. Be sure that you are running AML as an administrator, if you are running Steam as an administrator, i.e. they need to match.


I've spent the past couple of years tweaking these collections to optimize compatibility. The goal is to provide a stable platform (The Core Collection) from which players can add a wide variety of mods.
