[WOTC] Iridar's Armor Overhaul 2.0

Description
This mod makes armor grant Ablative HP instead of normal HP.
  • Ablative HP is displayed as an orange bar above soldier's health bar.
  • Taking damage to Ablative HP does not wound the soldier, but Ablative HP normally cannot be restored during a mission.
  • Poison and Fall damage bypass Ablative HP and damage soldiers' health directly.
  • Armor can be shredded even if the attack dealt only Ablative HP damage.
  • When playing with Beta Strike second wave option, Ablative HP bonus is increased as if it was health.

Additionally, this mod smooths the armor upgrade progression by making armor upgrades weaker and cheaper, but also adding six additional Ablative Plating upgrades. Each upgrade provides a cumulative bonus of +1 Ablative HP to all armors.

The number of purchased upgrades is displayed on the armor icons by overlaying a shield icon with one or several chevrons. The total amount of Ablative HP granted by all your upgrades is displayed in the Armory on the right. See screenshots for more context.

The first couple of Ablative Plating upgrades can be purchased before researching Plated Armor, providing a much needed survivability boost during the early game, and also making techs other than Magnetic Weapons worth pursuing.

DESIGN GOALS

The overall goal of this mod is to make the increases in survivability of your soldiers more granular. Purchasing Predator Armor upgrade in vanilla nearly doubles your soldiers' health, making Tactical layer less challenging and less interesting.

With this mod, the total amount of bonus survivability you get from armor is larger compared to vanilla, but you also have to invest more resources if you want additional bonuses.

REQUIREMENTS

X2 WOTC Community Highlander v1.21 or higher is required.

Does not require a new campaign.

COMPATIBILITY

Out of the box, the mod is compatible with all Vanilla and DLC Armors, including SPARK Armor, as well as mod-added Armors that use the vanilla passive abilities for their stat bonuses.

In adition to that, the mod includes explicit support for these mod-added armors:
All other Armors will not be affected by this mod, meaning they will still provide their full HP bonus and will not grant Ablative HP.

[WOTC] Iridar's Vest and Plating Overhaul (previously known as Defensive Items Overhaul) - compatible, but using both of them together will make your soldiers rather tanky.

CONFIGURATION

The mod is entirely configurable through various configuration files in:
..\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2268770257\Config\

You can add more upgrade tiers, I have left some instructions for that in ReadMe.txt.
The only limitation is that if the total bonus is larger than 20 points, it will still be displayed in the armory on the right as only 20 points. I can potentially increase this limit if it becomes an actual issue for someone.
You can also replace the Ablative HP bonus with regular HP, if you wish.

This seems to be incompatible with weapons and Item overhaul.

Everytime I try to pair this mod with WIO I always get crashes on the first mission after Gatecrasher but when I swapped this mod with your "Vest and Plating Overhaul" I no longer suffered any crashes.

thanks iridar for clarifying. having ablative health on top helps rookies take on missions unarmored
Iridar  [author] Nov 25 @ 10:04pm
It's additive. There's nothing else it could've been.

im not sure it has been asked here but how does the ablative tier works? is it additive to thew previous one or does it replace the previous one? because ive redone my config to have a

25 on first and second
50 on third and fourth
100 on fifth and sixth.

my target at the end of it all, is as you calculated if it were additive, 250 total ablative. which in my personal config, isnt much, lest of a sectopod wrath cannon damage of 800, and even on a tanky spartan-ii soldier with 300 HP and 250 Ablative and 50 Armor, thats only 600 maximum survivability only.

Avoiding wounds for taking a bit of damage is kinda the point of the mod. The mission rating has no effect on game balance normally.

I cant use this mod because i get flawless mission status after soldier received damage less then ablative HP. I think this is dishonestly

Thanks, i'll keep digging.

Are you in the right place? This mod does absolutely nothing to soldier customization.
Haydern Oct 21 @ 6:29am
I (and others) have some issues with project doll house changing the customization random when changing armor for the first time (even with the option that block it, is checked). Each upgrade the customization change again when equiping the new armor. Maybe its a conflict with this mod? There is any way to not change the default customization with this mod or it simple does not change anything on base game?

honestly I always found it weird that in EU/EW if your soldier took less damage than the armor provides they don't get wounded but if they take ANY damage in X2, even if it's less than what the armor provides, they get wounded, so this mod technically restores the behavior from EU/EW which I find to be nice, though I could do without the base armors being nerfed in favor of these extra ablative upgrades
