Not necessary ! Only a few Assets can creates problems (like harbour assets)
For exemple (as far as i know) : assets of trees, monuments, parks, vehicules, etc... don't need updates.
Check in this discuission related assets problems.
But Mods can have issues and some of them needs updates.
Which problem do you have ? Open new city ? Open created Cities ?
Can this possibly be true? Ive tried removing and undoing several mods, and I keep getting the same popup error message. Nothing has worked so far
After playing around with Network Extensions 2, I've found the following:
NEW GAMES
New games should work perfectly as long as you do not use any of the tiny roads.
Note: If you're using a map that uses any of the tiny roads, it will not work.
SAVED GAMES
Saved games should work properly if you have not used any tiny roads in the game.
Saved games that have used tiny roads can be loaded, but will receive an error. At that point, you should be able to remove any tiny roads in your city, then save the city using a new file name. At that point, you should be able to load the new save without any problems. If you still receive the same error, you may have missed deleting some of the tiny roads in your city.
Note: If you're using a map that uses any of the tiny roads, it will not work.

It drops my FPS to 20 or 30. Could I just be running into RAM limitations at 16 GB?
That's a shame I use a lot of those. Are the zonable pedestrian paths affected as well?

I saw a big drop in the amount of "object reference not set to an instance." Instead of that error popping up constantly it went to popping up about every 20 seconds. I'm going to keep trouble shooting, but figured I'd post this for what it's worth. This asset was made by VIP, the same who made the Harbor that seemed to be causing problems.

And every time two error pop up.
"..system.divide by zero exception & that other one...
Object reference not set....blablabla"
Hi, yes it was in my city. My last save game is from the night before the patch and it was active then. I unsubscribed and loaded it up and the building was gone. Was still getting the error message, but it wasn't happening constantly like I wasn't spam clicking it to get rid of it, it is now only happening every 20 seconds or so.
I tried with a two week old save and got the exact same errors, so im hoping it isnt the 81 tile thing.
