Mods and Patch 1.13.1-f1 [Mod compatibility thread]
Last updated 5th of June 10:53

Patch day means some mods are likely to break, meaning your city won't load/work like it usually does. But don't worry, most mods update pretty quickly or can safely be removed, so you are unlikely to lose your city.

Just don't panic and if you do open your save, don't save over the file - save as a new file instead just to be safe.

If you don't use any mods from the workshop or have been through patches before you likely know the drill and this post won't really be useful for you. It's intended to help players who aren't used to mods and patches through the update as smoothly as possible. If this is still all new to you and you have questions feel free to ask and I’ll answer them as best as I can.

If you play with a lot of mods
  • Don’t open your city or cities yet, but wait until most major mods are updated, so nothing breaks.
  • Keep an eye on this post and its links so you know which mods are updated.
  • Disable all mods and start a new city (make sure not to save over your other city!) if you want to check out the new features. This can easily be done by adding the launch option “-noWorkshop” (without the quotation marks)
  • Even if you have broken mods you might still be able to load your city, but depending on the mods things might be messy. If you do load without those mods, make sure to save as a new file just in case!

Which mods are broken

Will I be able to continue my old city?
Most likely yes, but it might be a few days depending on what mods you use. I'll help you figure out when you can safely start your city again.

Will ‘insert mod’ be updated?
Most likely yes - a lot of our awesome modders are working hard to get everything up and running again. But some mods will need larger fixes and as modders only have their free time, we might wait a while for some of them. Now is a great time to tell them how much we appreciate their work!

And if there are already several comments mentioning the mod is broken, you don't need to comment. The modder knows and will update when they can.

Which mods do I absolutely need to load my city?
I don't have a complete list, but generally mods that add a network like Network Extensions 2, More Train Tracks, Metro Overhaul Mod, One Way Train Tracks and Extra Train Station Tracks are needed to load a city once you have used the networks they add in your city. If any of these are broken you'll have to wait for them to be fixed to load your city again. 81 tiles is another mod you'll need to wait for to be updated if you have used it.

Then there are mods like Traffic Manager: President Edition, any mod that changes population numbers (like Realistic Population and Consumption), Ploppable RICO and Plop the Growables, which you can load your city without, but it's not a good idea as your city will be chaotic at best and fall apart at worst.

A good way to determine how much you need a mod is to think of what it does. If it makes some big changes to how things work in game, removing it will cause problems. If it's something that makes things more convenient for you but doesn't really change how things function once in your city, it isn't a big deal to get rid of.

What about Metro Overhaul Mod
The creators of MOM have confirmed that the mod will be updated to work with Sunset Harbor. If you use this mod in your city, you will still need it after the update. If you would like to remove the mod at any time, then follow the instruction in the mod's description. If you'd like to know what's happening with the mod in the future, check out this message from BadPeanut: https://twitter.com/CS_badpeanut/status/1240746577456771073

Still having issues?
You might have mods that broke before this patch - maybe last patch or long before that. I recommend checking out this list of broken and abandoned mods[docs.google.com] to get rid of any old ones you still have. It's a constant work in progress, so it may not be a complete list, but it's a great place to start. See the tab at the bottom on how to use.

Having errors?
Many errors are very generic and don't give much clue as to the problem. Please don't post long errors in comments. Instead just describe when the error happens (what you were doing at the time it appeared) and include your log file. This guide explains where to find it and suggests different places you can upload it to, since you can't attach a file here.

Not necessary ! Only a few Assets can creates problems (like harbour assets)
For exemple (as far as i know) : assets of trees, monuments, parks, vehicules, etc... don't need updates.
Check in this discuission related assets problems.

But Mods can have issues and some of them needs updates.

I found out all save files used with 81 tiles mod are corrupted. Rip. I haven't played in a long time so this was a new city I built and unfortunately I hadn't bothered checking if the mods were fixed since I didn't think it would cause issues (I barely have 34 mods). Now I know :steamsad:

Can this possibly be true? Ive tried removing and undoing several mods, and I keep getting the same popup error message. Nothing has worked so far
@Avanya and EVERYONE ELSE....

After playing around with Network Extensions 2, I've found the following:

NETWORK EXTENSIONS 2 -- INFORMATION

NEW GAMES

New games should work perfectly as long as you do not use any of the tiny roads.

Note: If you're using a map that uses any of the tiny roads, it will not work.

SAVED GAMES

Saved games should work properly if you have not used any tiny roads in the game.

Saved games that have used tiny roads can be loaded, but will receive an error. At that point, you should be able to remove any tiny roads in your city, then save the city using a new file name. At that point, you should be able to load the new save without any problems. If you still receive the same error, you may have missed deleting some of the tiny roads in your city.

Note: If you're using a map that uses any of the tiny roads, it will not work.

Has anyone had trouble with Klytes public transportation interface mod?
It drops my FPS to 20 or 30. Could I just be running into RAM limitations at 16 GB?

That's a shame I use a lot of those. Are the zonable pedestrian paths affected as well?
@GrignardTN -- Pedestrian Paths in Network Extensions 2 should work without issue, but if you find otherwise, please let me know. I'm not a modder, but I've been trying to keep everyone up-to-date on things. :smileyflag:

I saw a big drop in the amount of "object reference not set to an instance." Instead of that error popping up constantly it went to popping up about every 20 seconds. I'm going to keep trouble shooting, but figured I'd post this for what it's worth. This asset was made by VIP, the same who made the Harbor that seemed to be causing problems.
@This Old Gamer -- Did you have the HarborPack active in your city? I'm asking because I'm subscribed to that, but haven't received any errors. Maybe it has to be placed in the city before causing a problem?
@Lemonster it seesm to be when the assets are active that they start triggering errors. It's not the fault of the asset, there's some code in base game or a mod that's not checking for null values and there's a bunch of developers trying to track down the location of that code.

After the update, (almost) all of my buildings dont get either water nor electricity. I am playing with quite some mods, but they have never interfered with water or electricity, and nor have I any water/electricity generating buildings from the workshop: I just used the vanilla ones for this. I am playing on a edited map from a workshop (Tokaido/Shizuoka landschape). Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Yes! I do. No workshop buildings for electricy or water.
And every time two error pop up.
"..system.divide by zero exception & that other one...
Object reference not set....blablabla"

Assets very rarely cause any problems or need to be updated. That said, starting fresh never hurts, so if you are fine doing that, it's definitely not a bad idea. (Not something I've ever been able to do :P)

Right now there are some assets causing problems - for some reason. But they are few and far between.
I load existing saves and it doesn't work. I really don't want to have to load a new game because I have spent about 100 hours making a city of 300,000 people. I don't have to harbor assets just miscellaneous assets like extra cars, planes, props, roads and things like that.

Hi, yes it was in my city. My last save game is from the night before the patch and it was active then. I unsubscribed and loaded it up and the building was gone. Was still getting the error message, but it wasn't happening constantly like I wasn't spam clicking it to get rid of it, it is now only happening every 20 seconds or so.

Ill try one last time. https://ufile.io/6ozkka8w . I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall every mod I have, and it doesnt seem so clear what is causing the damn issues. Im getting the ystem.nullreferenceexception , and I cant click off of it. Im hoping its just a mod update that ill need to wait for, I just want to reassure myself itll get fixed and isnt perma-broke :steamsad:
I tried with a two week old save and got the exact same errors, so im hoping it isnt the 81 tile thing.
@This Old Gamer -- Thanks for the information. I've unsubscribed from it. I noticed it was last updated in 2015, so I'm not surprised there were issues.
