Mod compatibility thread & FAQ [Patch 1.16.1-f2]
Patch 1.16.1-f2, Hubs & Transport, will be out on Wednesday. If you don’t use mods, then enjoy the new content!


If you do play modded, you will be greeted with a notification when you start the game alerting you that some mods you are subscribed to haven't been created for the current version of the game. Opening the Content Manager will show you which mods were not made for the current version of the game, however, this does not mean the mod is broken. The notification is there to help troubleshoot but to determine which mods are known to be broken and which have been fixed, please see the list on the spreadsheet which can be accessed by clicking List Incompatible Mods.

Modders have been hard at work preparing updates, so please be patient while they apply those to the Workshop and sort out any issues that may not have been found in testing. Check the spreadsheet regularly to see which mods are still needing an update.

If you play with a lot of mods
  • Check the list of broken mods below
  • Don’t overwrite - save your city as a new savegame
  • Wait for mods to update - or help see what mods need an update.
  • Play unmodded while you wait using the -noWorkshop launch option

Will I be able to continue my existing city?
Most likely yes, but it might be a few days depending on what mods you use. Some mods are required for a save to load correctly, and if they need an update, you will have to wait for them before loading your city.

Will ‘insert mod’ be updated?
Most likely yes! Our awesome modding community is working hard to find issues and update mods, but it’s important to remember, they do this as a hobby so it may take a little while. Some updated mods may be released as new mods, in which case make sure to unsubscribe from the old version. Below are some mods expected not to be updated and their replacements. It’s recommended that you switch these as soon as possible, also before the patch goes live.

Unsubscribe these mods and get the replacement where available, or wait for them to update.


Which mods do I absolutely need to load my city?
This is not a complete list, but can hopefully give you some idea of what mods to keep an eye on before loading your city.

Network mods
These include any mods that add networks. Anything in the Roads category on Steam is not counted, only those in the Mod category.

  • Extra Train Station Tracks
  • German Roads
  • Metro Overhaul Mod
  • More Train Tracks
  • Network Extensions 2
  • One Way Train Tracks
  • Tram Station Track

Major mods
Mods that have a large impact on how the game works are generally needed for your city to work as it should. These include, but are not limited to:

  • 81 tiles
  • Any Road Outside Connections
  • Custom Zone Mixer
  • Improved Lane Connections v2
  • Lifecycle Rebalanced Revisited
  • More CitizenUnits
  • More PathUnits
  • More Vehicles
  • Nursing Homes with Eldercare
  • Optimised Outside Connections
  • Ploppable RICO
  • Realistic Population (or other mods that affect population numbers)
  • Reversible Tram AI [BETA]
  • Traffic Manager: President Edition
  • Transfer Controller
  • Transfer Manager CE
  • Transport Line Manager

How do I play unmodded temporarily?
While you can’t play your modded city, why not check out the new content without mods? You can easily do this by adding the -noWorkshop launch option to Steam. To do this right-click on the game in your Library, select Properties, and type in -noWorkshop (exactly like that) in the box at the bottom, and close the window to apply. This disables all workshop content.

Just make sure to start a new city and save it as a new file, so you don’t overwrite your existing city.

Thanks a lot. Just let me make sure : 1. enable the Safe Mode options for Loading Screen Mod Revisited 2. Open my save 3. Save as new file 4. Quit the game and relaunch 5. disable the Safe Mode 6. Open the new save. Am I right?
Yes, that's correct. Though if you're still having the error when you try loading with the Safe Modes on, then there's no need to save it. In that case I recommend making a post on our support forum so we can have a look at the log.

The error still appear..., but still thank you. I would consider to make a post on support forum.
How's the overall status of mods being updated with the last release? I tried looking at the Excelfile linked in the 2nd post, but its not updated since a week back according to the information in the workbook.
@CO_Avanya I'm also have the question kristian76 asked above. Usually after several last updates spreadshit and this thread was my main hub to get info on overall status of mods. However this time there is no fresh data here. I'm not sure that this question is for you, but could you please give any info (if you know ofc) whether the spreadsheet will be updated and when?
The number one problem with this game, which shows up with every patch or upgrade, is that the producer doesn't give the players what the players want. As long as most players feel the need to use mods, and mostly the same mods, and the developer doesn't incorporate these mods into the game, well then you have a problem every time it's upgraded.

One things for sure, I'm going to wait a good long time before buying CS2, just to be certain it isn't the same problem there.
Hello - it seems like there is an issue with the prop anarchy fix. I got this message:

I'm glad to know there is (I hope) the "official" thread about downloading issues since the newest patch(es). I love Cities Skylines and have continued to buy all of the DLC's including the most recent 3. But I have not been able to launch anything since the patches unless I click "No Workshop" on the Load Order Tool. I have Harmony and Loading Screen Mod. I also unsubscribed to all mod's and assets to weed out what was broken. But the game still only launches under No Workshop on LOT despite no mod's or assets. Which makes me wonder of there are update or reload issues LOT, LOM, and Harmony, unless I am still missing something or just a matter of waiting on the updates on the rest of the other mods.

Leading up to the update a few weeks ago my game would occasionally crash but ever since the update I cant even load my current save game or start a new one. I've run compatibility report and while it does display a few minor issues, it doesn't show anything that would be making my game crash. Here's my list of mods. Anybody have any idea what's causing my issues?

Looks like you're missing Extended Managers Library. Make sure you unsubscribe the old broken version and get the new one, and that the new one is enabled. There are links in the OP.

I suspect there are some leftover files from the old Loading Order Mod which are causing this. Please unsubscribe all versions of the Loading Order Mod and check for files which have "LoadOrderMod" (or similar) in their name and delete them from these two locations:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines
(the latter may vary depending on where you have Steam installed)

Then subscribe to Loading Order Mod V1.15.7 (STABLE) and try starting your game again.

Please completely unsubscribe Prop Anarchy 0.7.6 and get the replacement Prop Anarchy temporary fix instead. Disabling a mod does not always stop it from running part of its code, and the issue with this mod is it uses the broken Extended Managers Library, so it may well be causing issues despite being disabled.

Can you, please, tell situation with Building Spawn Points. It listed in the broken mods with comments "Will be updated this evening" (obviously meaning March 22). And, mod definitly was updated on March 22. But it is still present in the list of Broken mods in spreadsheet. Is it still something wrong with the mod?

Looks like it was missed when the list was updated. That should be fixed now.

Hi,

seit nun rund 1 Woche bekomme ich meine Stadt nicht mehr geladen...
eine neue Stadt bauen ist kein Problem.

Es kam während der Nacht, ich hatte das Spiel einfach mal laufen lassen.
Als ich zwischendurch mal hinsah war der Fehler da.

Ich muss hinzufügen es gibt 2 Fehler, bzw. war erst der eine Fehler da dann der andere.

Fehler 1 (sobald man die Pause verlässt):
"Array index is out of range"
erst hieß es die 81tiles Mod solls sein, dann TMPE.
Hab die Mods aktualisiert, die inkompatiblen rausgeschmissen.
Von offizieller Seite hieß es man solle TMPE clearen, passiert nix.

und dann kam nur doch...

Fehler 2 und zugleich aktueller Fehler, kommt sofort:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]

Details:
No details"

Ich habe geschaut ob es inkompatible Objekte gibt, keine ich hab auch schon alle ein und aus geschaltet, nix.
Normalerweise sollte es auch egal sein, wenn ein Objekt fehlt wird es nicht geladen fertig.

Ich habe keinen Plan.

Hi, thanks for the guide. I wonder if somebody can help me. I havent been able to load my savegame since the last update and i think its because one of the assets or mods may not be compatible. the problem is that i dont know which one is, and i tried to read the log-file, but i dont really know how to find the problem there. So if anybody know how to find the problem in the log-file and want to help me, this is the link where you can download it. Thanks

Having the same problem as them. Did exactly that, all trashed mods are unsubscribe and the fixes are subscribed instead. Still is broken.
