Doom Eternal is a ♥♥♥♥♥ out puzzle game disguised as a first person shooter where you must make split second adrenalized decisions on what is the most effective, efficient, and likely way to solve the various problems the game sets before you . This vast array of near infinite decisions is then boiled down into the most rewarding and joy bringing set of answers imaginable; shooting demons in the face with a shotgun until their meat literally explodes off of their bodies in chunks of gory success that sustains you to then kill more demons.This is supplemented by a new and improved move set that clocks the “move to live” style of play Doom is famous for into overdrive with the addition of a new dash ability and a shotgun with a grappling hook that is on fire. These are combined with new enemy designs that makes each arena into an ever evolving puzzle except instead of solving this puzzle with Grandma you solve it by chainsawing demons in half and showering yourself in their gut juices.
This game is a masterpiece in both the genre of first person shooter but also in level design. The arenas are fantastically thought out and intelligently put together, I could be a total nerd and explain the intricate amount of game design theory that is occurring in these gore porn, adrenaline fueled, hyper violent set pieces but that would go against the very nature of the game because thinking is for losers and shooting demons until they explode is for winners.Boss fights except one are all fantastic and interesting changes to game play which feel both challenging and rewarding. And of course the sound track is fantastic, with Mick Gordon’s savory licks bonding to your very soul as your adrenaline skyrockets with each demon bloodsplosion. All of this makes Doom Eternal the Doomest Doom ever Doomed. At its core it is better than Doom 2016 and an improved demon massacring experience in every way.
However because it is made by human beings it does have flaws. I consider them pretty minor to the overall experience but let's discuss them because the internet told me I had to stop playing Doom and focus on their “takes”. Yes the marauder is poorly designed and implemented but I stand by that it was a good idea for a boss like enemy type but it was just executed like garbage. Constant gun switching due to ammo is not negative and here is why. It is the key mechanism on which this brilliant puzzle disguised as a FPS runs on. Low ammunition makes the player evaluate the threats of each arena very differently and fundamentally changes how a player interacts with each encounter. Yes this limits the player's choice to not make a choice and use their favorite weapon the whole game. But is making the player utilize and think about the game's whole array of weapons in any given situation a bad thing? No, if anything it increases the skill cap and makes the experience of the game require a little bit of critical thinking. The story certainly could have been presented better and is the largest area for improvement in the next Doom title. Although the story is not poorly told it is not told well either and left me feeling rather apathetic to the story as a whole and if this were any other game this would be a problem. But this is Doom Eternal which offers the best demon killing simulation that has ever been offered literally ever it’s lackluster story presentation does not manage to dent the impeccable flow of demon slaying.

Doom Eternal is a masterpiece. Doom Eternal is the best Doom game I have ever played and it will be the best Doom game you will ever play.
