Godzilla Voxel Wars is a fantastic puzzle game.

If you've played Into The Breach you'll know what to expect from the gameplay (Enemies move, show you where they're going to attack, you move and try to stop eliminate/move/stop them with various abilities) in this turn-based tactics game but where it differs from Into The Breach is the fact it presents its levels as puzzles. Every level will be given a target number of moves it can be beaten in and you have to try and work out, using your knowledge of Godzilla and friends moves, how to beat each level without taking any damage.

It may sound simple having only 2 or 3 turns to work out a route to victory but the combinations of allies, level and enemies soon build up and some levels can be very challenging. Every level you get a perfect score on though will give you a hint token and that can be used to reveal a third of a solution to a level - and up to three can be used on a level straight showing you the answer - meaning even the most seemingly impossible levels can be worked out with a hint or two.

It's a simple premise but it's done exceptionally well, the complete lack of randomness in the level is a refreshing touch and there's a chess-like feel in the simple to learn, hard to master aspect of the game.

The game also has a level editor - playing through the campaign unlocks more tiles to use in the editor and you can share your levels online. As far as I can tell any level in the campaign could be recreated in the level editor and it's interesting to see some of the levels people have built in this game so far and extends the life of the game far beyond the two beefy campaigns that are in the game already.

If I had one complaint, that might put people off, it would be that I do find the game rather difficult at times - though this may have more to do with me than the game - but I can see the steep learning curve putting some people off, sometimes it can feel like you're trying all possible outcomes just to see what works. That being said I'm earning the hint tokens faster than I'm using them so if I'm ever getting to a point I'm getting too frustrated I can always use those.

I think if you're at all interested in the game I'd recommend it. It's not going to be for everyone but I'm really enjoying jumping in every so often and beating a few more levels. I think the game has been criminally underlooked in general and should be a lot more popular than it is.

Also it has Godzilla and there's not many games that wouldn't be improved with the addition of a Godzilla.

I can't write about Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars and not be biased, I have a lot of fond memories playing this game back on the original PlayStation with my family and have been a fan of the series ever since. The game had a big influence on the other games I played growing up, it's probably had a bigger part in shaping my sense of humour than I care to admit too.

I think the biggest compliment I can give the game is that not only does it look fantastic but it also looks exactly how I remember it. I love the fact you can switch between new and old graphics and that alone shows what a great job they've done updating the game for modern hardware without losing the essence and feel of the original.

Design wise the game holds up brilliantly considering its age. A couple of the puzzles are a little obscure (goat) but compared to some of its contemporaries of the the genre, the majority are well designed. This version also includes a great hints system and settings options that add a number of modern day quality of life improvements that make the game more accessible, if you want to use them.

The updated art is great, though some of the dialogue audio has signs of ageing (despite their best efforts to fix this) it wasn't enough to take me out of the experience. I think the game could feel very slow for a lot of newcomers too but, if you're not in a rush to play through it, it's worth taking the time to enjoy the game and the story.

I think my favourite aspect of the game though is the writing. It's consistently funny throughout, lines are well delivered and I wanted to make sure I spoke to every character about every item just to hear their sarcastic responses.

Oh and just to add - I played through almost the entire game on Steam Deck. At time of writing the Steam page says compatibility is unknown but in the dozen or so hours I played it on there I don't think I came across a single issue - it plays fantastically on Steam Deck.

This game isn't going to be for everyone, but I will say if you haven't played the original and have even a passing interest in point and clicks and 13th century conspiracy theories about the Knight's Templar, you should definitely check out this version of the original Broken Sword.

If you are a fan of the original this will look and play exactly how you remember it, not how it actually was, which is the best thing to say about a remaster in my opinion.

I'm happy to report this version of Broken Sword is fantastic, I hope they Reforge the rest of the series (even the 3D ones) in the same way. It would also be great to have the option to play the Director's Cut content in this game at some point too and, of course, Broken Sword 6 hopefully won't be too far away.
