My immediate reaction upon beating it, having never ~finished~ a main-line FF game before:

It really grows on you. I do have some issues with how frequently your party composition is adjusted outside of your control, and keeping track of the junction-ing system can be tedious at times.

The story had me feeling a deep sense of sentimentality at times, and I think this game is underappreciated in this aspect.

Technically speaking, just wow.. what they were doing with the technology at the time is nothing short of mind boggling. Absurdly cool stuff if you care much for retrospectively appreciating 3D graphics, and the way the game seamlessly cuts in FMV into the playable sections must have blew people away back in the day. Still really astounding to see. Many times the game had me thinking 'I didn't think this was possible in 1999, Wow.."

I chose this over the remaster because I wanted to get a feeling for the original project as a whole more than the story/characters alone.

Rating wise, I give this a 'beat this game once before you depart this world' out of 10.
