[WOTC] Iridar's Cosmetic Rank Replacer

解説
This mod replaces rank names and rank icons for XCOM soldiers.

DEFAULT BEHAVIOR

By default, the mod replaces rank names and rank icons for XCOM soldiers and faction heros - each faction gets their own set, thematic and immersive.

If you have any officers, such as those from [WOTC] LordAbizi's Battlefield Leadership Training, [WOTC] - K's Officer Class or [WOTC] - K's Officer Class (Alternative) mods, they will get their own unique set as well. Ranking officer in squad will also be highlighted in WotC: robojumper's Squad Select.

MCM CONFIGURATION

The mod is very configurable through the [WotC] Mod Config Menu.

Rank name sets and rank icon sets can be selected separately from each other, so you can mix and match them as you like. You can select global rank name and rank icon sets for whole groups of soldiers, or individually for every soldier class.

The mod includes several icon sets and rank name sets, and more can be added by plugin mods. If any soldiers classes add their own rank name or rank icon sets, like Psi Operatives, the mod will automatically pick them up and allow you to assign them to different classes.

So, for example, if you want Templars to use Psi Operative rank names and/or rank icons, you can do that. Or assign knight-themed SPARK rank name and rank icon sets to a Paladin class.

You can also toggle which soldier classes count as officers.

REQUIREMENTS

Safe to add or remove mid-campaign.

This mod relies on the Highlander to replace rank names and rank icons, but the interface elements that actually display the soldier ranks must also support that Highlander functionality.

The Community Promotion Screen is currently the only mod that fully supports Cosmetic Rank Replacer on the promotion screen, but some mods can potentially add new interface elements without using the Highlander methods to get soldier rank name and rank icon, and in that case you will see the old ranks in some parts of the game.

COMPATIBILITY

COMPANION MODS

LWOTC Officers, as well as officers from the mods below, will be automatically picked up by the Rank Replacer and receive the new rank names and rank icons. While this mod is extremely robust and offers unprecedented levels of customization, separating soldier and officer rank names and rank icons is actually its primary intended purpose.

CONFIGURATION

This mod's config folder can be found at:
..\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2550664377\Config

If you for some reason don't use MCM, you can configure this mod by hand in XComWOTCIridarOfficersRanks_DEFAULT.ini file.

New rank icon and rank name sets can be set up through XComRankChanges.ini and localization files. It also offers more configuration options for determining which soldiers count as officers.

KNOWN ISSUES

Opening the MCM screen for this mod may take a while. The more soldier class mods you have, the longer you have to wait.

If you have too many soldier class mods, the game may even freeze completely and crash. There are measures in place that are supposed to prevent this from happening, but apparently they don't always work. I will fix this, eventually, but it will require a significant rewrite, so no promises on when that will happen.

I have retired from modmaking, you can ask for help on the modmaking discord https://discord.gg/ZytsZ93 or consult the wiki https://www.reddit.com/r/xcom2mods/wiki/index or simply examine how this mod is set up.

@Iridar First Sorry for asking this just now but is it ok to publish a mod based on your CRR, where i want to make a Star Wars submod. And if yes on how, because I tried many different times and it worked for the class names, but I had problems with adding the rank icons in generel and putting all that into a mod in modbuddy that would work if uploaded. (I know the basisc of modbuddy)

Yes, as mentioned in the description.

Hey Question, is there a way to make a plugin which adds new class names and class icons to the list of the Cosmetic Rank Replacer?

@Velvet
Check the config files for LordAbizi's mod, iirc there's some options there for this mod.

My bad, those ranks seem to be coming from Battlefield Leadership Training itself. I'm guessing this might be getting caused by a load order issue, assuming the two mods are still compatible.

On that note, is there any way to configure what the officer ranks for LordAbizi's Battlefield Leadership Training are called? I completely understand the reasoning behind the existing system and how it adds clarity, but I was hoping that they'd have more typical officer ranks like those shown in the screenshots. I can't seem to find any way to change that, either in the .ini or MCM configs, though.

@Bantichai The config options for specific classes change whether the class is considered an officer by default. If you toggled them on then those classes would always have officer ranks. LordAbizi's mod has its own rank system based on what level of officer training they have, followed by a number. So for example, the first officer training done at the earliest possible rank (squaddie), would change the soldier's rank to Tactical 2 (Abbreviated TAC2). There doesn't seem to be any way to configure them to use different rank names that I can find.

@Iridar
My sincere apologies - i didn't see you'd responded to my query. I'll look to get a screenshot. But no it was unmodified at the time. I also uninstalled and redownloaded the mod fresh to see if that would make a difference and it didn't for me for some reason.
