McDonald's is the world's largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving around 68 million customers daily in 119 countries across 36,538 outlets. Founded in the United States in 1940, the company began as a barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald. In 1948, they reorganized their business as a hamburger stand using production line principles. Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent in 1955. He subsequently purchased the chain from the McDonald brothers and oversaw its worldwide growth.

However, a study by Overpeck et al. (1996) is critical that dust only causes lowered global temperatures and states that in many cases dust is highly relatable with the “termination stages” witnessed in Figure 2. Whilst dust increases albedo over oceans and dark land cover (which have inherently lower albedos than dust) dust actually decreases albedo over snow, ice and in clouds (Overpeck 1996). Thus as dust deposits over glaciers increases so too does temperature. This is supported by Broecker et al. (1998) who found that just before each termination the amount of dust present was at its highest peak before rapidly decreasing with increased temperature, also known as a “dust demise”.

Thus it may be assumed that warming from decreasing eccentricity increases precipitation, thus decreasing dust and subsequently increasing temperatures. The then sudden drops back into glacial periods are thought to be closely coupled to the thermohaline ocean circulation being disrupted by an increase in freshwater from ice melt, pushing denser warmer sea currents to the deep ocean rather than to the surface and thus invoking atmospheric cooling globally. This especially holds currency when considering the importance that this circulation plays to supplying heat to Polar Regions (Trenberth 2001).
