Update: Since getting this game I have taken my ASA 101 and 103. This simulator did a lot to help me understand the lines, rigging, boat anatomy, and more. I was actually able to apply what I learned in the classes and use that in the simulator, and vice versa. Probably one of the most impressive things about this game is that it does a very very good job at simulating how a sailboat really behaves. If you are considering learning to sail, I couldn't reccommend eSail more.

Some improvements I would like to see in order of difficulty for the devs:
- Unlock the whole map sooner. Maybe after discovering fewer locations. I didn't know there was a bigger map and I could easily see less dedicated players getting board with the game too soon. Some of the most fun I have had is doing the long 4+ hour sail between islands and having to tack, jibe, the sails in force 10 conditions at night.
- Quests. Maybe running medical supplies between islands. Distress calls. Search and rescue help. Or even smuggling?
- More places to drop anchor and moor up. Nothing better than after a long sail than a challenging anchorage.
- More boats! I know you need to "dial in" the starting vessel, but I would love to see some more boats. But if you have a 60ft ketch rigged ship there is a lot more to worry about.
- More sail options. Wheres the genoa? Code 0? Whisker poles and other options for downwind. And custom sails?
- A story line. This may sound obsurd in a sim like this, but hear me out. I would love to take on the role of a struggling charter company and have the challenge of giving a great trip to paying passengers. Complete with characters at each port, side quests, maybe a little romance. Think Sid's Pirates+Stardew Valley+Euro Truck.

In conclusion, if you get a thrill inside from the idea of hitting the open water with only the wind at your back then this game will certainly float your boat. Keep in mind it's a little rough still in many ways (graphically) but the devs are regularly adding new features, so its a title worth supporting. I know I am personally excited to see what eSail ends up becoming.

And they are still updating it in 2020. Nice.
