One of the best games ever made and is easily in my top 3 games. Between the PS2, Gamecube, WII (favorite version to play), PS3, PS4, 360, XBO, Switch, and PC/Steam deck versions I have played this game through no less then at least 200 times. That alone should say all that I need to of the sheer adoration I have for this game. From it's story of top tier cheese to combat that still holds up to this day, The only down side to this amazing package for me is the slightly weaker final area that introduced kinda eh enemies compared to the awesome 2nd section. The PC port is pretty good all things considered. On the Steam Deck it plays near perfect but for some reason it occasionally will mess up the controls making it impossible to continue. The only fix is to shut the game off and start it back up. It didn't happen often enough to damper my enjoyment and this version is the best handheld version out there right now due to a weird glitch on the Switch making the Pro difficulty near impossible due to the QTE promps not registering enough presses. Regardless of that buy this game. It still holds up and will always be good. I have extremely high expectations for the Remake and hopefully tomorrow I will love this game all over again.

A remake of arguably my favorite game. From PS2 to GC to WII to PS3 to 360 to PS4 to XBO to the Switch to finally PC I have played through that game at least 200+ times, sinking thousands of hours into it. I want you to understand the love I have for that game while talking about this one. This remake is just shy of supplanting the original for me but I still hold the original RE4 in higher regard. I'll have to go through to explain why just to make it seem like I don't have hardcore member berries going on.

Gameplay: Here is where the change is mostly for the better. The game is significantly faster, enemies will consistently haul ass at you and will wack you. I'm kinda iffy on the sheer amount of bullets needed to make enemies flinch out of attacks. Really all this does is recreate the thing people had issues with for the original RE4. You can't stand your ground or slowly walk backward because enemies run like mad at you and will often wack you when you try and run past. On higher difficulties the flinch mechanic gets to be absurd, making it to where I have to dump several head shots not to get hit by a pitchfork. That's not to say anything about strong enemies like the chainsaw man. I miss laser sights on every gun. It's still there as an option for some guns but most now use the aiming sights from Resi 2 Remake. You can stay still to get higher damage from every shot but as i said before this is a quick way to get shanked. It still works well and the game doesn't often make you fight things outside of a 10-30 yard range, so you can reliably not worry about getting sniped. The arguably best change they made was to the knife. The ability to parry (which you should master if you want to get through professional) has changed the flow of the game leading you to avoid often fatal damage if you still have a blade handy. Your knife can break now but you will get plenty of mini knives to keep you stocked between fights. They have also added a crafting mechanic that I rolled my eyes at but it's not too bad here. The major thorn here is that on higher difficulties you will rarely have ammo drop that isn't shotgun or handgun. This forces you to hold on to the crafting materials in your limited inventory to try and not be wasteful. This may seem like a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but these are the major nitpicks I had that made me not like playing it as much as the original but after playing for 100+ hours I did have fun with it.

The World: A clear upgrade that blows 90% of the original out of the water. The world feels alive now with random noises here and there that make me feel like I'm always being watched. The game throws in the majority of the map from the original but in some remixed way to where I didn't know where I was going on my first play through which was cool. The sheer amount of detail in these areas is nuts to where I was still finding new things on my 10th play through. The Merchant also has set up a more shop like feel to his areas to give him more of a he was always here kinda felling. He still sells upgrades for your guns but instead of slowly doling them out to you randomly you can now upgrade half of your gun the moment you get it, with the other half coming at some point past the half way mark. This gives you a pretty good feel for what you want from your gun (Red 9 still my favorite though). The Merchant now gives more side quests and will give you Spinels (previously a treasure to be sold) that you can use to trade for various things. The quests are always on your way, outside of the bounties, and well worth doing. Here is where I have the biggest problem with the Merchant and really the game overall. The Upgrade Tickets. Once you finish upgrading a gun you get the ability to buy it's premium upgrade for cash or a ticket that will modify it somehow, usually in the form of significantly higher damage. The problem comes from the tickets you can now buy with real world money or trade to the merchant for 30 and 40 spinels ( Most of them in the game). The amount of money it takes to level up something won't feel bad on the lower difficulties but on Professional you are starved for nearly every resource making money a luxury you can't afford to waste. This introduces a nagging thought to buy the ticket since you can apply it immediately without needing to buy any other upgrades. This has made me question the entire economy of the game because I got the Deluxe edition to get the weapons I didn't realize the extra treasures that the map that comes with it DO NOT EXIST if you do not have the Deluxe edition. As I said Prof I felt starved even with those extra treasures so what does it feel like to someone without it? This bugs the ♥♥♥♥ outta me and I truly hope that this is just a me thing and not a legit thing they were trying to do to corner people into paying.

Story: The overall beats of the story have stayed the same but nearly every actor in it is now different to how they used to be. Let's start with Leon. He unfortunately got beat with the serious stick and isn't as fun to hear talk anymore. He throws out quips in combat but in cutscenes he is so uptight that he will often just adhere to a stick to the mission personality where the previous version always kept it in his mind but he would ♥♥♥♥ talk and often mock the very people he's supposed to be fighting. The B movie vibe is pretty much non-existent overall in this game but I guess that's within the same feel of the other REmakes I suppose. Next we'll cover Ashley. She is kinda an improvement over the original since she has pretty good dialog now as well as contextual dialog when you do things throughout the game. She still has a tendency to get hit by random attacks but at least she doesn't have a health bar to worry about for the most part. Luis is relatively unchanged and has even more scenes now to further flesh him out but he's still the funny smart ass that I loved in the original. I wish they didn't make Leon so damn confrontational with him in this game though. Nearly every time they meet Leon looks like he's about to punch Luis' lights out. I'll cover the big 3 bads together. The village chief is the same, Salazar isn't as funny as he was but he is still relatively the same, and Saddler is just straight up boring. Saddler has been changed to straight up being the typical cult leader type of guy. The previous version was a cult leader as well but he seemed to be using it as a means to an end but he was still always thinking about his own interests. In this he sees himself as a vessel for the cult but not it's God. Krauser got an actually alright change in some areas. He's now changed from a merc that Wesker hired to a traumatized war vet that want's the power he could never get himself. He still seems to hold Leon in high regards dispite them being on opposite sides in this game. Overall a decent change. Now we get to Ada. I really hate what they have done to her here. In the original she was playing triple agent working for Wesker and an unknown third party ( who I believe was Simmons from 6) so you didn't know who she was loyal to. Funny thing was she was loyal to herself and she ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over Wesker at the end of 4 because the other party would pay more. In this she ♥♥♥♥♥ over Wesker because she feels bad. Ada has always been a bad person. From the very start of the series she infiltrated Umbrella as the girlfriend of one of the scientists to steal the T-virus to constantly taking jobs to steal things from different organizations. That was what made her awesome. It also doesn't help that the voice actor doesn't really have that good of a performance here.

Conclusion: I would have gone on for much longer but I've hit the limit of the review space so yeah. I do like this game but certain flaws will always have me like the original more. This game is still worth the $60 asking price and I will play it again in the future.

Hello added for trade:ReeneOK:

D€imos I played it back on the PS4 and while I sucked at it I did have plenty of fun. It is even more RNG heavy then the main game but trying new crazy builds you otherwise wouldn't made it worth a few tries at least.
