Cry of Fear is a timeless masterpiece.

This game presents a character with whom an entire generation of emotionally disturbed can identify with.
It's a unique experience. It throws incredibly stressful moments at you that get that get resolved by moments of nothingness in which you just walk through an empty, cold city at night while the beautifully melancholic soundtrack really makes you feel the loneliness and coldness that Simon needs to go through. The way its building up tension and releasing it shortly after is perfect.

Every enemy depicts something way deeper than you initially realize and the story just gets better and better the more you understand whats actually happening. The endings are incredibly brutal and painful. Not because it has a lot of gore or similar. But it is emontionally straining to see Simon suffer over and over again, regardless of how you try to change his fate.

Everyone who views videogames as a form of art should play Cry of Fear.

Still a 10/10 and always will be.

Its been a while since i wrote a review for a game, but after this game I wanted to leave my thoughts.

My god, Black Mesa.
I did not know about this game until a week ago, after i played through Half Life 1 with one of my best friends who is a huge Half-Life Fan.

To be honest I didn't expect much of it, since it was a fan-game, but my expectations got blown away within a couple hours of playing.

This game looks beautiful, the sounds are sensational and it feels very well polished.
The soundtrack ranges from dark ambience to epic action music that makes you feel like you are the only person who can save this planet. Which you are, ironically. The gunplay feels really fun and rewarding.

Let me talk about Xen. The last third of the game takes place in the so called borderworld Xen, which was created entirely from scratch by the Crowbar Collection. In the original Half Life 1, Xen was a not finished mess. The textures were awful, the gameplay wasn't that much fun for me. Black Mesa's Xen is perfect. It is perfect. Floating islands surrounded by a colorful nebular void. Thousands of plants, flowers, minerals that bloom in gorgeous colors. An ecosystem that has never been created so well before.

I finished the game multiple times and got all achievements within one week. It didn't tire me for one second. Not even when I played through the whole game a second and third time after finishing it, just to bring the pizza and the purple hat to the end (If you know you know).

Play this game, if you want to get into Half-Life. Even if you don't.

It is worth your time.

9.5/10
