An absolutely brilliant entry to the Soulslike genre by NEOWIZ, Lies of P blows pretty much all other non-FromSoft soulslikes out of the water for me. You can tell the developers themselves are true fans of the souls series, notably Bloodborne with its fast paced combat as well as taking clear inspiration from the aesthetics as well.

There are some grievances I have had throughout my 3 playthroughs of the game, mostly to do with balancing (certain bosses feel a little too much like health sponges) and level design -I particularly don't like the last area of the game on subsequent playthroughs. The first time traversing through it is fine but there really isn't any incentive for me to explore side paths so it ends up being about a 1-2 hours run to the top, depending on how I fare against certain bosses and tight corridors.

I have to note though that those grievances are VERY minimal, and some of them have even been addressed by patches like balancing of enemies/bosses. I can't wait to see what the DLC for this game looks like, as well as any future plans for games NEOWIZ has.

There's a non-timed free trial that lets you play up to level 35 (the base game w/o expansions goes up to level 50). I did quite a few hours of that and ended up buying it when I reached 35 just so I wouldn't be capped out while going through the story. As people have probably already mentioned the beginning *can* be a bit of a slog, especially the fetch quests in the main storyline, but there's only been one point where I've found it super frustrating. I plan on buying the expansions when I can, because this game really is great.

If you enjoy Dark Souls and want a faster-paced style combat with parrying being a main mechanic, this game may be for you! It's extremely challenging but oh so gratifying when you finally move past a hard area or beat a large boss.

Difficult to get into but once you're in a game it's hard to stop. The mixture of challenge from the strategy layer combine with the tactical layer make for a wholly fulfilling campaign. Fight some alien bastards and save the planet!
