COH2, 7/10. At first I was disappointed with this game after playing vCOH for an obscene amount of time, then over 400 hours on the new steam version. Then I gave COH2 a second chance a few months later and I'm glad I did. The armies were more closely balanced, there are two new armies available and the game started to feel like the sequel vCOH deserved. I hope it's still a work in progress though, because it still needs some help if I'm going to stop playing vCOH.
EYE CANDY, nice graphics, sick PHYSX.
COH2 is a great way to blow an hour.
COH2 feels like a different game than vCOH, however this is a double edged sword.
No one army feels OP to me, good job balancing the armies.
Fog of war is improved, your units get blinded by smoke and visual obstructions, not just instant fog of war area reveal because you have troops in the area.
It's not as easy to bottle neck the map with a few units early in the game like in vCOH. It's a true RTS, you have to pay close attention early on in the game.
The game timer is very helpful
Some units can abandon their vehicles to recover and repair later... cool feature, but this is a double edged sword at the moment. See my cons list for an explination of how this is an in game exploit.
Units can climb over walls and fences, which was a much needed feature in vCOH. I used to get upset that my rifle squad couldn't conquer a wooden fence and would rather walk into MG fire than climb over or through a god damn fence or stone wall.
It's difficult for any player to set up an impenetrable defense or blockade like it was in vCOH. I'm not a PVPer but I can see that this game's PVP and PVE system is much more fair than vCOH's was.
Some units can abandon their vehicles, then keep building vehcles to abandon, then re-crew the abandoned vehicles to greatly overcome the map unit cap... this is basically a built in exploit... you need to fix this. I was able to build a mob of Sherman tanks and storm the enemies base Command and Conquer red alert 2 style... this type of game play is not very COH at all it takes me back to the 1990's.
I'd like a return to the traditional sniper of vCOH.
I'd like to see MG42's and MG34's available from HQ.
I'd like more generals and more drops from game play, this game is a bit grindy.
I'd like to see more standard units available from constructed buildings. I feel the game is too reliant on generals and mods.
EYE CANDY > MY complaint, however, this game is cooking my EVGA 560ti 448 core video card. The fans are constantly running at 100% when I play COH2. I reapplied thermal paste and it's still getting really hot when I play on recomended graphics. I know she's an older card, but she's not that old of a card.
MEGA UBER ULTRA CON:
SEGA... you made COH2 a pay to win game... I know you're in business to make money, however you pissed off much of this game's fan base by the way you marketed the sequel to the best military RST ever (vCOH). You were charging $59.99 for the game, and you had $59.99 worth of DLC and other crap available the day the game was available to purchase... That's more than just a little over kill, and you've continued to milk the COH cow for every penny you can get out of it. Hook up the people who play this game, or better yet the people that still play vCOH a bit for nothing please? Throw us an army or two or some better standard equipment for the love of god!!! You have to spend money to make money, you're not giving enough away for what you're charging. You're acting like Golem and COH2 is your prescious. I gladly paid full price for COH, Opposing fronts and tales of Valor and I'd do it again. I was waiting for COH2 to go on sale before I bought it, that was after 30 hours of free play before the game was officially launched. Then a friend bought it for me for X-mas last year. I would have waited till it was under $20 just to spite you for your marketing strategy. Even when COH2 was available for free I was still playing vCOH. To this day, I still play vCOH because it's a superior game in many ways despite how old it is.
