Update: Jun 15, 2022 @ 9:46am

Version 4.4.2
Small update to fix some small issues and build in greater compatibility with Fjordur.

Map Spawning Updates
  • Fjordur spawns updated with more consistent Hunted content
  • Fjordur swamp spawns updated to have greater nest spawns
  • Note: Many creatures spawn on Fjordur that are not supported by The Hunted (e.g. Genesis creatures, unique Aberrant, etc.), but will still spawn. You will need to disable these creatures manually if you do not want them on your map.

Adjustments
  • Slight adjustment to Kibble recipes (e.g. no longer requires pumpigourd)

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed Hunted versions of Campfire and Cooking Pot not cooking vanilla meat correctly
  • Fixed overspawn of Spinos on Lost Island

Update: Jun 11, 2022 @ 2:15pm

Version 4.4.2

Araneo: Despite how I personally find them disgusting and repulsive, these eight-legged freaks have been added as potential tames. You will need to find their eggs in the wild and hatch them. Their saddle has been added to the saddle crafting kit as a Tier 4 saddle. Fertilized Spider (and now Mantis) eggs will spoil into Cocoon Silk after 24 hours if not preserved or hatched.

The Cooking Pot and Campfire have returned as a separate engram, rather than replacing the vanilla engrams. This will allow players and server admins to select which one they would like to use. You may disable them from showing up in the engram list by putting the following into your Game.ini:

Disable Vanilla Engrams (force Hunted versions only): OverrideNamedEngramEntries=(EngramClassName="PrimalItemStructure_Campfire_C",EngramHidden=True,EngramPointsCost=3,EngramLevelRequirement=2,RemoveEngramPreReq=False)
OverrideNamedEngramEntries=(EngramClassName="PrimalItemStructure_CookingPot_C",EngramHidden=True,EngramPointsCost=9,EngramLevelRequirement=8,RemoveEngramPreReq=False)

Disable Hunted Engrams (vanilla versions only): OverrideNamedEngramEntries=(EngramClassName="DA_PrimalItemStructure_Campfire_C",EngramHidden=True,EngramPointsCost=3,EngramLevelRequirement=2,RemoveEngramPreReq=False)
OverrideNamedEngramEntries=(EngramClassName="DA_PrimalItemStructure_CookingPot_C",EngramHidden=True,EngramPointsCost=9,EngramLevelRequirement=8,RemoveEngramPreReq=False)

The Hunted's version of Wood, Thatch, Stone, and Metal has ended to increase compatibility with other mods. The modded version of these resources will remain in code, so that you can use them, but all new sources of these resources will be vanilla.

Bug Fixes
  • Maggot Bandages recognized spoiled meat again
  • Fixed Toad and Diplocaulcus not spawning in as babies in the wild
  • Fixed a number of baby dinos who were still receiving taming bonuses
  • Fixed raw fish meat harming piscivores
  • Fixed Mosas & Megalodons from targeting rafts
  • Fixed tamed Rex targeting Plant Defense Plants
  • Dens/burrows no longer offer the option to search for unhatched eggs, as intended

Update: Jun 9, 2022 @ 2:09pm

Second attempt at a hotfix addressing the roaming nests, uncookable fish, and quirky AI aggressiveness. Highly recommend unsubscribing from mod, shutting down steam, restarting steam, and resubscribing to get a clean install of the mod. If you do not get the message that the mod is being installed once you start up Ark, you likely need to try the above steps again.

Update: Jun 9, 2022 @ 11:00am

Unfortunately, something seems to have gone wrong in the cook of the hotfix. I am reverting us back to version 4.4 until I can figure out what's happening. I suspect a corrupt cook. A number of players are reporting being unable to install the mod at all without crashing to desktop.

Update: Jun 9, 2022 @ 9:58am

Hotfix for moving nests and raw fish not cooking. Reduced egg weight when using the RealisticFoodWeight ini option.

Update: Jun 8, 2022 @ 8:56pm

Version 4.4
AI Improvement
  • Baby Follow Logic
    • Many dinos now have better herding logic for their babies.
    • Babies will follow their mothers closely, even if she is aggroed.
    • In some cases, such as sheep and megaloceros, a number of females also follow a male leader, which will defend its herd when threatened by human intruders.
    • For live, passive taming, this has significant implications, as the odds of finding a lonely baby without proper protection is now significantly lower.
    • Babies that follow their mothers are much more diverse in age, ranging from juveniles to adolescents.
    • Babies are much more common in herds now, particularly herbivores, such as parasaurs and iguanodons.
  • Nesting Parents Properly Prioritize Dangers
    • Guardian parents will continue to guard their nests from curious humans, but not at the cost of life and limb. If they are being attacked by another predator, they will not ignore their attacker to pursue a human thief.
    • Guardian parents will no longer be telepathic and able to detect a human intruder in their territory, even if ghillie is used. This should make stealing eggs a bit less annoying as the parents' AI will respect your efforts at being stealthy. You will still get a warning buff when you have entered nesting territories, but it will no longer automatically aggro all parents in the vicinity.

Dino Additions and Adjustments
  • Aberrant Versions: Most Aberrant versions of dinos (e.g. Carno, Dodo, etc.) have been added, thanks to Friedrich IV's hard work! Unique Aberrant dinos, such as the rock drake, still need to be implemented. Stay tuned!
  • Corpse Devourers: Two dinos, the Hyaenodon and Vulture, have been given a special tamed ability to devour large corpses with ease in a short period of time without draining stamina significantly. However, due to the barbaric carnage, it is not as effective at harvesting meat and special cuts. For those who are experiencing a great deal of dino death and corpses piling up near their base, it may be helpful to have a squadron of these dinos ready to clean up the area. This is an automatic feature for these dinos and does not need to be enabled. Wild versions do not have this ability.
  • Underwater Nests: Thanks to the new nest code, the underwater diplocaulus and beelzebufo nests have returned to spawning in the wild, in addition to baby tadpoles.
  • Phiomia: Peaceful, phiomia fear big predators and will run at the sight of Rex or Allos. However, they do not fear humans and will not run, unless provoked. If they are attacked, they will instead defend themselves. This should make taming a young phiomia a relatively easy experience, as should be the case.

Map Spawning Updates
  • Valguero spawns updated with the Hunted creatures and nests, thanks again to Friedrich IV!
  • Lost Island spawns are updated and refined.
  • Second attempt at cross-map compatibility, which should bring nests and babies to all maps, so long as they would normally spawn vanilla versions of the dinos.

Adjustments
  • Wild adults are now coded to not be tamable through mods like Immersive Taming, to reduce upkeep on server admins to maintain a lengthy INI file and to increase game stability, as some wild adults if tamed may cause performance issues or server crashes. If you tamed wild adults prior to this update either through mods like Immersive Taming or console commands, you will likely lose those dinos and any offspring they may have had. This is a fix that should have been rolled out at the start of the mod to prevent such cases. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause server admins and players.
  • Nests are now much less likely to spawn on top of harvestable trees or rocks, or be blocked by them.
  • Nest babies will always be at 0% maturation now, matching their hatchling status.
  • The Ichthyornis makes its return to the beaches! The beloved, feathered thief has reduced aggro range, unless you encroach on one of their nests.
  • Medical and Energy Brew returned to vanilla crafting, to make it more compatible with other mods like S+, but keeps their increased spoiling time, ability to drink while swimming, and drop mesh.
  • Seeds will no longer be consumed automatically by herbivores while in their inventory.
  • Titanoboas, Scorpions, and Troodons now produce venom in their inventory passively when tamed.
  • Reworked Nesting Grounds notification buff. Should now be more performance friendly and not linger, even after a nest has been destroyed.
  • Retirement of Several Items and Sub-Systems
    • Heavy Meat: It is finally time to retire the heavy raw meat system. Meat will return to weighing 0.1 pounds, as is the case in vanilla, and my remapping of the resource will end. This has the advantage of making The Hunted more compatible with other mods, such as the Kanga series of mods. It also makes the food system more consistent between herbivores and carnivores.
      • If you're a stickler like me for more reasonable food weight, I added an optional INI config to make consumables 5x as heavy as vanilla.

        RealisticFoodWeight=False

By default, this is set to false, as I assume most players will not want this kind of punishment. Setting this to True will make all consumables 5x as heavy, including modded foods, brews, etc. I personally play with this setting on true.

    • Heavy Hide: As we are retiring the heavy raw meat system, it is time to adjust the heavy hide system. The weight of hide and hide varieties will be reduced. Not quite to vanilla standards, but significantly closer. There are two varieties: heavy (0.5 pounds) and light (0.1), while feathers and silk are the exception, weighing 0.01 pounds. Heavy includes armored plates, keratin, chitin, wool, shagreen, and pelt. Light includes organic polymer, hide, quill hide, and scaled hide.
    • Compost Bin: The compost bin currently streamlines fertilizer, but that doesn't offset the cost of compatibility. I am removing the custom compost bin as an engram, but will keep the item in the code so that servers do not instantly lose all that valuable fertilizer and poo.
    • Campfire & Cooking Pot: Any time you light a primitive fire in The Hunted, it signals to predators that you're nearby and smelling interesting. Unfortunately, it means that any other mods that add cooking items or remaps the cooking pot or adds new recipes are incompatible. I will keep the items in code, but remove the engram remapping, so that servers do not instantly lose all of their fires that they have built.
    • Pumpigourd: The pumpigourd crop is being retired for greater compatibility with the Kanga series of mods. However, the items will remain in the code, you just will not be able to find the seeds in the wild. If server admins want to place the seeds in a loot crate, you can place this code in a ConfigOverrideSupplyCrateItems setting: DA_PrimalItemConsumable_Seed_Pumpigourd_C

Bug Fixes
  • Restored Doed ability to harvest stone on its own (moved it's stone structure damaging attack to C)
  • Fixed overaggressive otters killing poor lystros and their babies
  • Fixed an unnecessarily complicated bug that was causing guardian parents to overspawn in Single Player Mode
  • Fixed Pteranodons and their nests containing dilo eggs
  • Redesigned the Giga Nest to be smaller and its radial menu more easily accessible
  • Fixed yellow drops not having beta implants
  • Fixed Pelican & Pego not respecting INI settings for absolute level
  • Fixed the endless diarrhea that comes with creative mode. Once you end creative mode, you'll need to respawn in a new bed or go skydiving without a parachute to get the standard, lower Huned stats. I am sad though – I very much enjoyed players pooping themselves with this mod active.

Update: Jun 2, 2022 @ 4:30pm

Hotfix for overspawning parent guardians around nests. Also addresses ptero nests having dilo eggs and an attempt to bring the Giga's health back down to intended levels.

Update: Jun 1, 2022 @ 6:53pm

Dino Additions and Adjustments
  • Nurseries: Some dinos can now be found in family groups near a nursery ground, which functions mechanically much like a nest and can be harvested for various resources. This will help keep the babies in close proximity to their parents, so they are not just wandering around aimlessly on their own.
    • Basilosaurus – underwater nursery; can be harvested for stone and black pearls

  • Ambush Hunters: Some dinos will now ambush unsuspecting survivors. Tread lightly.
    • Kapro
    • Microraptor
    • Sarco
    • Scorpions
    • Spiders

Map Spawning Updates
  • Lost Island spawns updated with more realistic herding groups
  • Sarcos and Kapros now spawn underwater in swamps and some will not wander or attack until a suspecting survivor gets close enough. Beware the swamps!

Adjustments
  • Significant Nest Logic Update: Players now must "search" for eggs in nests via the radial menu (similar to collecting nest resources or destroying it) for the fertilized egg to spawn.
    • This was done for a few reasons, but the primary issue was performance. Now, nests do not automatically generate fertilized eggs when they come out of stasis for the first time. This substantially cuts down on the number of dropped, fertilized eggs around the map, which is particularly important for large servers.
    • It also means that when a server admin does a dino wipe, there are no longer orphaned eggs laying around without guardians to be found like an easter egg hunt.
    • This also lays the groundwork to reduce the need for and eventually retire the incubators, as we no longer need to worry about fertilized eggs hatching in the wild (unless a player forgets to pick up the egg after searching).
    • In order to destroy the nest, you must first search for any unhatched eggs to be given the option. This was done to prevent players accidentally destroying a nest instead of searching for eggs in the midst of raiding with mommy slaughtering tribe mates nearby.
    • Many nests received a slight adjustment to their in-game appearances to help avoid fertilized eggs appearing magically as if from thin air.
    • Added a new server ini function:

      NestActivationTimer=5.0

By default, searching for eggs in a nest, gathering resources, or destroying a nest takes 5 seconds to complete. This was setup in order to give parents (and their sometimes slow AI) a chance to realize there is an intruder and react appropriately.

Server admin can set this as low as 0.1 (essentially, instant) or as high as they want, depending on how much tension they want to build when raiding wild nests.

  • Added new server ini function:
    • WildEggFemaleOdds=0.5
    • By default, all fertilized eggs in the wild will have a 50% of hatching either a male or female baby. You may adjust this from 0.0 (all male babies) to 1.0 (all female babies) or any number in between.
    • This does not affect wild babies, just fertilized eggs. You can still find a mix of female and males wild babies to be tamed, especially near nests.

  • Removed EnableVanillaMeatWeights server ini function and replaced it with:
    • EnableRealisticMeatWeight=True
    • This is enabled by default and makes it so that all meats are 1 pound each (0.5 pound for jerky) on both players and tames.
    • This was done to make the mod more compatible with mods, like Kanga Mods, which add additional meats.
    • Amargasaurus saddle moved to Tier 5 (this allows the diplodocus to be a Tier 4 saddle and the bronto to be a Tier 6 saddle, giving the Amarga its own niche at Tier 5)
      • Glass Arrows "bleed" buff no longer works on big dinosaurs, such as Rex
      • Increased the temperature requirements for Tiny and Small fertilized eggs to prevent them from hatching during hot weather events on special maps; ember nest insulation increased to compensate
      • Remove cross-map compatibility for now until a better solution can be found for nests stacking on top of one another
      • Maggot bandages now last 3x as long

    Bug Fixes
    • Toads' ability to harvest chitin and chitin paste is restored for smaller insects (e.g. ants, dragonflies, etc.), but it will not work on larger insects (e.g. mantis, etc.)
    • Fixed some nests being incorrectly targeted by wild and tamed dinos
    • Fixed some dinos who were receiving taming effectiveness bonuses from passive taming (megalania)
    • Fixed some dinos spawning vanilla unfertilized eggs (quetz)
    • Fixed Hyaenodon, Sinomacrops, and Dung Beetles not being affected by the EnableBabyLevelLimit ini command; all 3 will now spawn in at higher levels if that server option is selected
    • Snail mating time increased to slow down snail population growth
    • Baryonyx now properly responds when their nest is threatened by curious humans
    • Fixed tamed Giga's having an insane amount of health (hopefully for the last time)
    • Attempted fix for tamed Raptors not always obeying whistles, commands, or switching from aggressive to passive without permission (needs more testing)
    • Fixed baby Carnos hyper aggression
    • Fixed Pela being hyper aggressive without nearby nests

Update: May 28, 2022 @ 11:23am

Version 4.3
  • Add Additional Dinos and Nests
    • Amargasuarus
      • May now spawn on maps other than the Lost Isle (shares a spawn with the Diplodocus)
      • Wild AI adjusted – will remain aggressive towards humans and predators, like other large herbivores (e.g. Mammoths, etc.), but is no longer a rampaging lunatic leading to senseless and pointless bloodbaths of nearby herbivores
      • Tail swing can now damage stone-tier
      • Wild nests are guarded by territorial mothers
      • Nest can be harvested for clay and pumpigourd seeds
      • Saddle class is Tier 4
      • An alternative Amargasaurus, which does not have the fantasy-esque fire ballista or ice-cube spikes worthy of admission to the X-Men school, is available. I will be using it on my own personal server. You must put these NPC Replacement Commands in your game ini file to get this non-fantasy version in game:

        NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="DA_Amargasaurus_Character_BP_C",ToClassName=DA_Amargasaurus_Character_BP_Alternate_C")
        NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="DA_Amargasaurus_Nest_Character_BP_C",ToClassName=DA_Amargasaurus_Nest_Character_BP_Alternate_C")

    • Dinopithecus
      • May now spawn on maps other than the Lost Isle (shares a spawn with the Hyaenodon).
      • Alpha males are no longer tameable (while I appreciate the attempt at designing a complex taming task, the idea behind slaughtering the entire troop of an alpha baboon on steroids to break his will into obedience is just a bit much for me).
      • First mammal to receive a non-violent "sleeping" tame option. Babies will be found near dens, and some may be sickly and unable to move. By nursing them back to health (by putting medical brew in their inventory as you would kibble in vanilla), you will gain their trust and tame them. Beware of the guardian troop, though, who will not take kindly to an intruder.
      • Dens can be harvested for stone and unusual green gems.

    • Sinomacrops
      • May now spawn on maps other than the Lost Isle (shares a spawn with the Archeopteryx)
      • Vanilla taming method kept and left unchanged, with both babies and adults tameable.
      • Flying upwards now consumes 5x as much stamina per second.

  • Features Adjustments
    • All raw meat (normal, prime, fish, and mutton) no longer damage humans or heal dinos.
      • This also means that when a wild carnivore takes down another dino, eating their corpse will no longer insta-heal them. Instead, they now will slowly regenerate health on par with tamed dinos. Now, territorial disputes between top apex predators (e.g. Rex vs Spino) are deadly affairs.
      • When humans consume raw meat, raw prime meat, or raw mutton (not raw fish or raw prime fish), they gain the condition Queasy, which lowers stamina, increases torpidity, slows movement speed, and increases the range of wild dino detection. You can now live out your fantasies of being a flatulent, raw meat eating cave monster without dying!
      • Spoiled meat will continue to harm health, in addition to giving the Queasy condition.

    • Adjusted Medical Brew:
      • Heals 40 health over 120 seconds
      • May now be used while swimming
      • Weight increased to 0.5
      • Turned into a learnable Engram at Level 6
      • Added a drop mesh

    • Adjusted Energy Brew:
      • Restores 40 stamina over 10 seconds
      • Reduces 80 torpidity over 10 seconds
      • May now be used while swimming
      • Weight increased to 0.5
      • Spoil time increased to 2 hours
      • Turned into a learnable Engram at Level 11
      • Added a drop mesh

    • Lowered the amount of torpor azulberries give when consuming for Oxygen underwater
    • Farmable tintoberries received a new, updated mesh which actually has red berries
    • All incubating nests now last 3x as long when active
    • Adjusted Global Spawns:
      • All creatures affected by The Hunted now have a global 10% chance of spawning in a nest or a tameable baby.
      • This should make The Hunted fully playable on maps beyond The Island, Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, and Crystal Isles that use standard Ark dinos. This will need a significant amount of community testing and feedback to get right.
      • Balancing the spawns between all maps is tedious and may nearly be impossible to get right in the end.
      • Those maps that use Aberration dinos exclusively (or other alternatives, such as the X- and R-creatures) remain unaffected, as such maps exist outside the scope of the Hunted.
      • This is a blunt force adjustment that lacks precision for more compatibility with other maps. Unfortunately, this does mean that you will occasionally have odd spawns, such as nests showing up in close proximity to one another. I have tried to reduce the odds of them spawning directly on top of one another, but again, unless I have access to the individual map's spawning files, this is the best we can do.
      • I suggest for server managers to use a spawn manager mod for more precision spawns on maps beyond The Island, Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, and Crystal Isles.

    • Bug Fixes
      • Fixed wild fertilized eggs only hatching females
      • Fixed invisible Tropeo saddle
      • Fixed raw fish harming dinos (see feature adjustment above)
      • Fixed several creatures who were receiving taming effectiveness bonuses from passive taming (beaver, kangaroo, and styraco)
      • Fixed wild spinos dropping vanilla unfertilized spino eggs

Update: Jun 22, 2021 @ 7:24am

  • Third attempt to fix any lingering crashes associated with the Gen2 update
    • Removed the Ichthyornis, which seems to be at least one persistent source of crashes on SP and servers. They have been removed from Beach spawners and no longer replace the vanilla version. If you are still experiencing crashes, especially on a custom map, I suggest putting the follow code in your game.ini

      NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="DA_Ichthyornis_Character_BP_C",ToClassName="")
      NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="DA_Ichthyornis_Nest_Character_BP_C",ToClassName="")
