This is a quick video guide of what to expect if you are to pick the Zulus as your Civilization.

This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
If you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Zulus or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!


Victory Conditions

  • Domination
    Everybody that has played Civilization of years past knows and understands how the Zulu's work. One of the best early offensive Civilizations in the game - or at least it has been in the past. Not only is he one of the best Domination Civilizations to play early on, he is one of the best all around now due to his personality trait. He'll receive 25% more from combat alongside 50% reduced costs for his military. Highly Recommended.

  • Science
    Now, when you think of Shaka Zulu I do not think of a Scientific brainaic. Now, as Civilization V goes the more you conquer, the more cities you have, the more science you produce. Based upon that formula in theory you'll have an excellent shot at winning Scientifically. Fortunately, that is exactly how things can go for you. If you find yourself not able to stretch out the last leg of conquering and decide to try to win Scientifically you'll have quite a shot at it. For the most part, works only when conquering - and then stopping. Recommended.

  • Culture
    Zulu is not a Civilization to strive for Culturally, he has no personality trait for it whatsoever. There is no reason to stay small and pursue Tradition as a Social Policy track. The only reason you'll be generating Culture will be due to the cities you've taken over. They've build the Louvre? Awesome, you've got it now too because you've taken the city. Not Recommended.

  • Diplomacy
    Hahaha, the Zulu's Diplomatic? Are you insane? The only reason why they would be Diplomatic is because everybody else is scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about you conquering them. Outside of that there is no reason to even think about this Victory Condition. Nonetheless, as I mention in any of my guides, anything is possible but I would not at all strive for this. Not Recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Liberty
    One of the best options you could strive for considering you'll want to take over the world. You'll obtain a free worker, they'll work 50% faster, a free settler, more production in your cities, and a free Great Person of your choice. All of these will help you pave the roads to the next city you will attack. Remember to build barracks as well considering it's your unique building which allows you to obtain promotions off the bat.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Zulus.
Factoids
  • There are eleven official languages in South Africa. In KwaZulu-Natal, English and Zulu are widely spoken.

  • Malaria is endemic in the far northern coastal areas of Zululand and Maputuland

  • KwaZulu-Natal enjoys a warm sub-tropical climate for most of the year.

  • Summers are very hot and humid. Winters in inland areas are clear and cool, and cold in areas of high altitude such as the Drakensberg.

Sure, I try my best to not but sometimes it slips. So my apologies, I don't believe I swear as much as some people out there on Youtube/Steam Guides. Nonetheless, I understand where your coming from.

Haha yeah the ones that are no brainer Domination Civilizations I've always got to put something witty in there just because it's questionable as to why anyone would want to play it any other way. Unless they wanted to show off that they could do something that most can't but otherwise it's not something that anybody should think is a good idea to go into a game. Shaka the Diplomat just sounds so silly.
