Video of how to play the Morroccans.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
If you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Moroccans or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!

Victory Conditions

  • Culture
This can be considered one of the stronger Victory types that the Moroccans have, considering the bonus that they'll receive is the +1 Culture through trade routes. It's not a bad ability, rather good, so make sure to make good use of it by enacting trade caravans as quickly as possible. Nonetheless, if you are striving for this remember to pick Tradition & Aesthetics as your Social Policies, find many Civilizations quickly, and begin as much trading as possible. Highly Recommended.

  • Diplomatic
Considering you'll be obtaining more money for the International Trade Routes you'll want to ally up with as many AI and City-States as possible. The extra gold that you produce out of the trade routes should be used to give away some gold incentives to do your bidding whether or not it means for other Civ's to attack each other to gain an advantage over an enemy or to bribe them. Make sure to grab the Patronage tree if you are going down this path. Highly Recommended.

  • Science
The Moroccans have a strong personality trait to dominate with a Scientific Victory specifically because of the amount of gold you'll be obtaining. You'll have extra money through trade routes, the Kasbah special improvement will increase what you can use out of a desert tile. Just hope that you are surrounded by the desert because you will strive better than anyone else in that terrain. Obviously, with the amount of money you'll be obtaining make sure to focus on things that need to be upgraded and buy things that are of most importance. Recommended.

  • Domination
Probably the weakest spot of the Moroccans. If you are bloodthirsty and are killing off everyone, chances are you're personality trait is going to waste. You are not gaining the additional gold bonus, the culture bonus, and instead are only hurting yourself. It's not to say it's impossible because anything is possible in Civilization, it's just not something I'd recommend. Your unique unit should really only be used as a defensive unit considering it'll gain bonus' in your territory and in the desert tiles. Not Recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Aesthetics
For those looking to put the nail in the coffin as in terms of a Cultural Victory Aesthetics is the way to go. You'll receive extra generation for Great Writers, Artists, Musicians, unlock the Uffizi, a free Great Artist, construct culture generating buildings 50% quicker, extra culture for excess Happiness, and reduces the Culture cost of future polices by 10%. This one is very important to get if you are looking to win Culturally. Just remember that if you choose this path try to stay friendly with everyone around your surroundings.

  • Patronage
By and far the greatest choice, if you are looking to win Diplomatically. You'll have 20/30 relation with City-States throughout, you'll obtain more science by being allied with them, alongside a higher Great Person generation. With this Social Policy you'll be able to get more trade routes set up with City-States and have them all as allies to help win in that victory style.

  • Liberty
This Social Policy should be used if you are planning on expanding quickly to obtain more desert tiles, luxury resources, or anything else. You'll obtain a worker, settler, and a Great Person throughout the tree. I'd recommend this Social Policy if you are striving towards a Scientific Victory considering you'll obtain more cities, have more population, thus giving you an advantage in Technology and allowing you to have a good shot at winning that way.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Moroccans.
Factoids
  • Morocco's fascinating medieval cities like Marrakech and Fez lie in between the great Sahara Desert and the Atlantic Ocean.

  • In 788, about a century after the Arab conquest of North Africa, successive Moorish dynasties began to rule in Morocco.

  • A protracted independence struggle with France ended successfully in 1956.

  • Morocco virtually annexed Western Sahara during the late 1970s, but final resolution on the status of the territory remains unresolved.

Suppose thats true, but thats the case for a lot of defensive Civilizations with bonus' similar to theirs. It all depends on the situation that you are currently sitting at that given time when you have the Berber Cavalry.

The answer would be yes though, as you could stand a good chance at it but I'd recommend not doing it. Reason I mention it's not recommened is due to the fact it is usually easier to go down a different path as them for a victory. Although, with any Civilization you can pull out a victory in any condition - but as stated previously - I'd recommend to go a different route than Domination with the Morroccans.

Ryan, i looked at this today since I started a game as morocco, and you said that a domination victory isnt recommended. But the question is, cant morocco stand a chance if you rush other civs with berber cavalry?

That's not entirely true as Morocco has an advantage over other Civilizations that do not have a bonus to Culture. Those that do have a bonus to Cultural Victories tend to have a stronger ability, yes, but to the games where you are not playing with Civilizations like that then Morocco tends to have the grasp on that, especially since you are ALWAYS going to be trading as them.

Usually I find it easy to go down the path where you build quite a large sum of money and purchase Cultural related buildings and military like you said just to protect what I've got. I do understand where you are coming from though. Games where you are stuck with Civilizations that have strong Cultural Victory abilities it's best to shy away from the Cultural Victory and go towards something more feasable. I'd say Firaxis did that purposely to allow for backup plans as Morocco in the event of that happening.

Appreciate the feedback and thanks for checking out the guide!

Other civilization's have a better advantage with a cultural victory, with a nation like Morocco or Venice victory through gold by either purchasing military units for domination or buying city states favor is probably best suited. The culture boost Morocco gets for trade routes is pretty pathetic and doesn't help much.

True, but the Culture production still plays a major role in Cultural Victories as the more Social Policies you have the better chance you have of winning Culturally. Specifically, if you have the Tradition, Aesthetics, Exploration, (a lesser degree) Commerce, and one of the three Ideologies maxed out you will become a powerhouse.

Granted, a lot of the Tourism comes from Wonders and making sure that you effectively use your Archeologists when the time is relevant. Having those Policies that I mentioned maxed out - or majority maxed out is very important. If you manage to have those maxed out early, you've just about already won and it's just making sure you can keep what you've built.

Anyhow, Culture/Diplomatic are the two strongest victory conditions for the Moroccans just because of that extra Culture/Gold boost from your personality trait.

Thanks for the comment! Always appreciate it!

i wouldnt say culture win is highly recommend, you win by creating tourism now, culture is only to defend against tourism and to get policys and tenets. Diplomatic seems more viable with the extra money you can ally more city states easier, for more votes.
