Video of how to play Indonesia.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
If you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Indonesians or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!

Victory Conditions

  • Domination
Oddly enough, the strongest victory condition for this Civilization. When Indonesia comes to my mind I don't particularity think of Domination. Nonetheless, his personality trait will push towards expansion considering you'll want cities on multiple continents. Remember, you only need to be on a Continent outside of your Capital to receive the bonus'. You'll gain additional happiness to negate the negatives. The unique unit is a bit odd, with a random promotion upon completion of them. On top of that other AI can not raze your three cities on three different continents. Highly Recommended.

  • Science
Chances are you'll have many cities, and they'll be coastal cities for the most part. Adopt Commerce and you'll have a formula for a perfect Scientific Victory alongside tons of cash. Indonesia has a very good personality trait allowing your three cities on three different continents to never be razed allowing you to have 3 solid cities. Use faith to your advantage to try to get Messenger of the Gods for extra science. Recommended.

  • Diplomacy
Although they are extremely well equipped for a Domination Victory a Diplomatic Victory is not out of the question if you do not like taking others over. Expansion usually does not make other Civilizations happy, and causes aggression from them but if you stay out of their area/territory you should dodge the hate. You'll want to be friends would be City-States, but even so, remember AI upkeep needs to still be in place. Suppose the only help you'll obtain is the extra Spices/Pepper/Cloves from your personality trait - but in most cases I'd keep those to yourself. Recommended.

  • Culture
If your not looking forward to Domination or Scientific Victories you can just as easily strive for a Cultural Victory. Make sure to choose Pantheons that adhere to Culture related bonus', strive towards building your city(s) on rivers to build the Candi for extra faith production. With that faith strive towards anything Cultural related. Lastly, remember to choose the Aesthetics Social Policy track if you are really interested in winning in this fashion. Recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Liberty
You'll want to expand quickly, find other continents to settle on to ensure that they will not be razed and provide additional Luxury Resources. You'll receive a free worker, settler, they'll work faster, and obtain a free Great Person of your choice. A fantastic Social Policy track to follow if your looking for a Domination Victory as Indonesia.

  • Patronage
This will grant you that Diplomatic Victory if you are striving towards it. Considering you'll want to start up on another Continent you'll meet some City-States along the way. Become their friends first. With Patronage you'll gain science, a Great Person gift from time to time, 20/30 standing points with City-States, alongside other great benefits.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Indonesians.
Factoids
  • With more than 17,500 islands, of which more than 150 are active volcanoes, Indonesia is one of the most geographically and geologically interesting countries on Earth

  • Krakatoa is located in Indonesia.

  • For the most part, coastal areas see temperatures in the mid to upper 20s Celsius (the low to mid-80s Fahrenheit) throughout the year.

  • Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country, with 86% of the population professing Islam.

  • Indonesia is home to over 240 million people; it is the fourth most populous nation on Earth (after China, India and the US).

Thanks, I enjoy Indonesia personally. Although they are rendered useless on a map that has only one continent they are quite powerful otherwise. Once you are placed on a map with multiple continents, islands, etc. then you have a strong chance of winning as many other Civilizatons. It's just that Pangea map that really.... messes you up =-).

Oh, okay I understand where your coming from now.

Yes, it only requires a different Continent in order for the 2 additional cities to benefit from what their personality trait would be. Sorry for the confusion on my part with the guide as well. I'll re-work it to make sure everyone else doesn't get the notion that I was saying, "Make a city on each individual Continent!".

Thanks again, appreciate the input!

Ok I ll seperate it what I was saying

Civ 5 doesnt always think that diffeant continets Its the way Civ was desiegned. In a archeapoligo map the island around might be considered the same continent. If you look up Civ 5 SDK world builder you see that there a 4(I think)"continents" .Its just in how Civ sees the world. To get what I am saying completly you have to see the World Builder.

I thought it only required to be on a differant Continent than the Capitol. Not 3 differant ones.

Sorry, but I'm a little confused on the context of the statement.

From what I'm getting you thought that all they needed to be is on a different continent, not actually three continents but rather just a single different continent. You'll have to wait for Optics or Astronomy to get the benefits.

If that's a clearer version of it I'm fairly certain that it pertains to having cities on three separate continents/islands which does make it a less powerful ability but it is powerful in an Archeapoligo map.

I thought that they only need to be on a differant "contitent"(If you use World builder it shows that Civ does not always the think they're differant)not three that kinda make they re ability less powerful.you have to wait Optics or Astronomy to get the bounes
