Video of how to play the Greeks.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
If you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Greeks or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!

Victory Conditions

  • Diplomatic
The bonus the Greeks get through the slower degrading City-State Influence helps add up allies that are so very needed in a Diplomatic Victory.

  • Cultural
Although not as dominant as the Diplomatic way, the City States that you gather will generate much Culture per turn for you thus initiating a Cultural win scenario for you. Most other Civ's will beat you to this if this isn't your main focus early game though! (At least in most cases!)

  • Domination
Must start a quick army and rush as quick as possible to really defeat all of the Civs if you wish to do so this way. Not something I'd recommend on a higher difficulty setting and or bigger map type.

  • Science
Most other Civ's have many bonus' towards Scientific things whereas the Greeks do not have such strong "Scientific" minds. The only added "perk" to being the Greeks in this case would be through Scholasticism in the Patronage Social Policy. Generally, if you are perusing this Social Policy you're looking for a different victory condition than a Scientific Victory. Anything is possible - but again - not highly recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Patronage
With Patronage you will enable even more bonus' that you'll get with teaming up with the City-States. Something that you will probably even need throughout your playthrough so putting all of your points into is something that is highly recommended. Remember though, once in Medevil Era you are able to start doing this so you'll have to wait at least one round.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Greeks.
Factoids
  • No part of Greece is more than 85 miles from the sea.

  • The National Anthem contains 158 verses; to date no known person has memorized all 158.

  • Tossing an apple to a girl was a traditional way of proposing marriage.

Yup, but that's why it's called Basics! I'd love to make more advanced guides but time usually limits me, silly thing called life.... oh well!

This guide is useful for new players. However, it has no useful info for experienced players.

You are able to beat any game with any victory condition as I stated - I only give the basics on each individual Civilization based upon their traits and unique units. Not every game will you win through Science and not every game will you win Diplomatically, as I state, either. Regardless, I'm glad you are doing well in your game.

Just out of curiosity, what difficulty are you playing on? Thanks for the feedback nonetheless.

I actually have one up, must've accidently not added it in the "Other Basics Guides" section of this one. Anyhow the easiest way to find it is to type in 'Basics - America' in the seach section of the guides. Either that or favorite my account and you'll get updates for when I release new guides etc. Thanks for checkin out the guide!

Do you think you could make a guide for America?

Yup that's very true considering I've noticed the same thing. Didn't really mention Domination was a terrible thing to strive for but in most cases it's not going to be the best option to go for.
