Video of how to play The Iroquois.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
Hello, if you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Iroquois or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!

Victory Conditions

  • Science
Between this and Domination are about equal. The reason why I recommend Science over Domination is the fact that not everywhere in the game you'll be playing is forested considering that's where he gets his massive bonus. You'll be able to handle a sprawling empire and if you have most of your cities connected by forests you'll never need to spend money on roads and it provides a great defensive bonus. So as long as you're near forests you'll be unbeatable allowing you to expand rapidly and continue to become smarter than anyone else. Recommended.

  • Domination
Once you are able to build the Mohawk Warrior you can go on a tear against any other Civilization due to the fact that you are probably going to be in the forests. You get a MASSIVE bonus to this. You should use it to your advantage whether it be offensively or defensively. Unfortunately, after their short stint you'll probably want to hold off on attacking other people if there isn't any forests around. Again, you live in the forests - you will become the king of the forest jungle. Always use it to your advantage. Recommended.

  • Diplomatic
Not a bad choice if you wish to try to settle things through words. You will not have any personality trait to help you. Chances are you will not want to choose Patronage as your Social Policy. You probably will not be liked if you are settling very quickly in the forest tiles. Not Recommended.

  • Culture
The Iroquois culture is very interesting in the real world. Everything they have made to the way they lived. Unfortunately, the only thing that was given to them was the traditional Longhouse which is nice but nothing special for a Cultural victory. Nonetheless, staying small is only viable if there is not much forested land around. Otherwise there is not much of a reason to stay small and attempt at winning through Culture. Not Recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Liberty
You'll want to expand all throughout the forest. Make sure to connect cities through the forested tiles to save money and time. Becoming a sprawling empire is a good idea especially if you are looking to play a little more aggressively. If you are not in a largely forested area you may want to reconsider to a different policy though. Highly Recommended.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Iroquois.
Factoids
  • The Watauga Association at Sycamore Shoals near Elizabethton drafted the first constitution ever written by white men in America in 1772. It was patterned after the constitution of the Iroquois League of Nations, a federal system of government developed 200 years earlier for five eastern Native American tribes.

  • Antonín Dvořák was familiar with the work "Hiawatha" in a Czech translation. In an article published in the New York Herald on December 15, 1893, he stated that the second movement of his Symphony No. 9, From the New World, was a "sketch or study for a later work, either a cantata or opera ... which will be based upon Longfellow's Hiawatha" and that the third movement scherzo was "suggested by the scene at the feast in Hiawatha where the Indians dance."

Iroquios are really bad personally, I don't understand why they're so popular.

Thanks for checking out the guide, theres always times where I'll realize something that I had not realized prior to checking out a Civilization as well. It's always exciting, at least to me, to find out something new about a Civilization even though you thought you knew everything about them.

No problem, I always enjoy videos on my favorite classes/characters. The forest/jungle road was still handy for the time being. My workers made roads now so thats a plus.

I tend to always micro-manage my workers for those purposes. Now, the connect the dots with the forests trick helps out in the beginning of the game but once you get later in the ages you'll want to build railroads/roads connecting the cities. Early on though it is very enjoyable to not have to immediately do such things. As anyone else, thanks for taking the time to check out the guide and the feedback! Always appreciated!

I play as Hiawatha, really like the video, and sadly my automated workers don't understand they are Iroquios. They chop down all my Central African jungles perfect spot, imperfect workers. I caught it too late to realize, but I did use the combonation of liberty and the pyramids based on my own instinct and have a boatload of workers that work super fast. Again great video you made me realize I'm doing pretty dang good.
