This became a lot more ranty than I was expecting so I apologise for that. I will still keep it all in though as I still do feel it is still relevant. I will put here a checklist summary so that you can quickly get my opinion on certain gameplay and story aspects of the game and whether it is worth buying in general.

First off I must address the thing that I feel will turn players off from this game: The bugs and abruptly cut dialogue/cutscenes.

This is not the case with all cutscenes and dialogue but it is often enough to be noticeable and worth mentioning in this review. I am undecided if this is how the developers intended or if it was a bug or a potential plethora of other reasons but dialogue sometimes just does not feel natural and I have been left there many times thinking to myself 'is that it? Just gonna cut the conversation there?'. The message is still conveyed by the characters, do not misunderstand, but it just feels odd is all.

The first example of this that comes to mind is doing Vasco's loyalty quest ('Family Reunion') where you have to find his brother. Once you save Vasco's brother, Vasco's brother asks 'to whom do I have the honour of speaking' to which Vasco replies 'My name is... Captain Vasco. Naut and SeaGiven. It was a pleasure, Sir' and then the screen fades to black. Sure it is implied (from his lack of presence after the screen comes back) but he doesn't say goodbye or anything even as simple as 'Thank you for your help but I must go now'. It just feels very odd. Also, in the same part of this loyalty mission, it is further odd by the fact that you must leave the area before Vasco will speak to you. This is largely agreed as being strange through the posts I was able to find on the Steam forums describing this. However, I will commend the developers for addressing this (quite quickly in fact) and helping to explain that you just had to leave the area first. It would have been nice to have a quest marker or quest update just telling you to do so though. If you have little tolerance for things like this then this game may not be for you. I think the good aspects of the game outweigh these issues and don't massively affect the flow of the story and I feel that if you can look past these things you will enjoy it.

Now onto the good points of the game that I liked.

The story: I really enjoyed the story and often found myself wanting to play the next main quest to find out what happens next. It is a thrilling and gripping story that will have you on your toes wanting to do more and more to get to the next part. The thing I like about this though is that it is not overdone. While the story does have these quests starting one after another on the back of a previous quest the story does seem to have points where you can take a break from the main story if you would like to go and do something else and just relax from the intensity for a while. Spoiler for late-game Native High-King: For example, the main quest allows you two in-game days to go and do whatever you like while you wait for the High-King (whomever you choose) to speak to En on míl frichtimen (Yes I had to search up how to spell that). This is optional though and you can just skip the time you are asked to wait which is another feature I do like. Regardless of all this though quests are not time-sensitive so, to be honest, it does not really matter but it is still a nice feature they decided to add anyway.

The gameplay is another aspect that I thoroughly enjoyed. The thing I most appreciate that the developers implemented was the ability of choice with which weapons you use and how you use them. For example, you can specialise your character to be good with one-handed sharp weapons (i.e swords, rapiers), one-handed blunt weapons (hammers, clubs), two-handed weapons (Scythes, Broadswords) and even rings if you choose to spec into magic. I cannot speak for how fun it is to play as the other classes because I have only played this game once-through as a warrior class and choose to spec into being an expert with one-handed sharp weapons. I thought this complimented my play-style well as the best one-handed weapons require a lot of agility. This also helps with fast movement and dodging (which I prefer to do much more over parrying and blocking and I found after playing through the game that a rapier is the best for this style of gameplay. I have not used a different style of weapon since.

The choice with customisation and dialogue makes the game feel a lot more of a personalised and catered experience. The game allows you to express yourself with distinguishing clothes all ranging in style and practicality. I love how people you speak to will comment on your clothing too. With me they always point out that I am 'noble' because I choose to wear the Merchant Congregation faction clothing as that is what I feel De Sardet best represents. The choice is yours though to play and choose the clothing as you wish. In addition to the clothes looking good in general and the choice present already, you can customise your clothes with armour on top of that! I always find myself customising my companion's armour as well so they get some more HP and regeneration ability if they are a magic-user (i.e Petrus, Siora). The different styles of clothing have different available upgrades too! For example, native clothing has the native style of armour that you can add to it and it can only be added to native armour. I feel this layer of added depth really makes this game a truly personal and riveting experience to play.

I liked all of the companions and I wanted to understand and get to know them. The developers did a good job at making them seem human in aspects of personal motivations while seamlessly introducing them to the player at key points in the story. Even the loyalty missions were interesting as time goes on and you get to know them. You start to care about what they care about and it just shows that they have done a smashing job with them all. It is so interesting to see them grow into more confident and self-assured people and makes you feel good about yourself. Furthermore, your companions don't block doorways and trap you inside unlike some games... I'm looking at you Bethesda!

TLDR: Overall, I really enjoyed this game and recommend it to anyone looking for an RPG experience with an interesting and rewarding story.
