This is my first ever contact with RPG games, back when the game came out I got the demo for the game from gaming magazine. I played that demo that only had the farm and a small part of the city over and over again until I ended up with 20 hours from that small demo of the game. Later got my hands on the CDs for the game.

Gothic 2 just like game before it has a beautiful hand made world, ncps that have schedules and jobs to do during the day that make the world alive, the monsters hunt smaller monsters during the day to eat and sleep at night, the well done characters some come back from the first and some are new.

The story is sectioned in acts and which each act monsters respawn to signal that time as passed, in the later acts more difficult enemies appear on the map. With every act there are sub quests available from npcs in the world.

Playing as the nameless character makes you immerse even more into the world. Leveling up takes you from getting beaten by some dude in the docks of the city with a stick to being able to solo a full team of orcs later. Progression is well done in this game. You don't feel like a superhero, just an ordinary man who learns to fight better and better over time.

The main cast of characters really feel like your friends, a feeling cultivated over the last game and not rushed like current day games when you do 1-3 missions with them and then they die expecting you to feel sorry. Nope, that's not the case here, you really feel the friendship behind the actions and words of the main cast of characters that help the nameless hero, even more if you played the first game before.

The combat is a bit weird compared to today's games, but at that time it was awesome especially for me who also had contact with the combat in the first and in this one there were made some improvements.

I can continue to write on and on about this game and how perfect it is, but there is no point to that. You either buy it and enjoy it now or not know what a truly good RPG is and continue living a life without that knowledge.
