Genuinely one of my favourite games of all time. While obviously not completely accurate, it is one of the more "real" feeling hacking games, with plenty of jokes and other bits in it for people familiar with computer science. The soundtrack is amazing and the story is engaging (especially if you play the dlc).

You will need to be able to work a command line to play, the game does simplify it but if you're unfamiliar you will need a decent memory, so keep this in mind when playing.

I absolutely recommend trying both this game and the DLC. The DLC can be played at any point during the main story, but I recommend waiting until the main story is over. It's not too hard to tell what will lead to the DLC.

You looking into learning programming? This game might be a good starter to see if you're suited to that type of logical thinking. While the game is closer to an assembly language than one you would actually be using for most purposes, it still requires similar modes of thinking and requires you to complete similar tasks. Do not feel bad if you have trouble with the later half of the game however, as it gets very hard! And don't worry, most higher-level languages make tasks from the late game trivial, so do not be afraid to learn an actual programming language :P.

As a programmer, I personally enjoyed this game a lot, completing all of the tasks and at least one challenge on each task bar one (a lot of the complexity challenges were tough!). I personally recommend it, but only if you enjoy programming or are looking to learn. If you just enjoy logical puzzles, this may also be fun for you.

Here's a list of the programming concepts present in this game (there's probably more I've forgotten too):
-Conditional statements
-Variables
-Mathematical operators (including how multiplication, division and remainder function at machine level)
-Post-incrementation and post-decrementation operators
-Loops
-Complexity analysis (the challenges for each level. Challenge one is closer to Big-O complexity which is what most actual programmers use)
-Arrays and/or pointers (the game kinda combines the two into one, which makes sense as that's how arrays are stored at machine level).
-Sentinel values
-Strings
-Linked lists
-Matrices.
-Sorting algorithms (what did you use for the last level? I used an insertion sort.)

I absolutely cannot recommend this game highly enough. An enjoyable adventure through lovingly-made environments that play to the Source Engine's strengths, with plenty of little details to find. The story is great and draws you in, ensuring you always want to know more.

If you play, I absolutely recommend trying to find as much as you can and exploring each area, attempting to solve any puzzle you can see. It just enriches the game so much more.

when you legitimately feel uncomfortable and try and shy your arms away from something that isn't even real, you know it's a well-made video game

Early Access Review
This game has extremely realistic guns. You can fully interact with them, they have safeties and fire selectors, you have to load them correctly. There's over 150 guns in the game, and there's so many different types. There's 7 *categories* of pistol alone, with some categories containing over 20 firearms! There's a huge sandbox to play with (including some fictional weapons and some joke weapons, as well as some hidden ones), so it'll be a long time before you run out of guns to shoot.

This isn't just a range simulator either. Of course, you can just sit on the range and shoot (as I often do), but there are actual gamemodes! The crown jewel is the "Take and Hold" mode, where you are given random guns (depending on your class) from the game, and must capture various locations. There are also other modes, including the "Meat Fortress" crossover (yes, all the classic TF2 guns are in this game).

Conclusion: If you know a lot about guns, get this game. If you like guns but don't know too much about their functioning, still get it, as many of them have instructions. But you still might want to look up how they work.

Also some tips: When you have ammo stored in a "pouch" (it's more of a floating circle), you can click down on the stick/touchpad to turn it into an infinite supply. If you do the same with a pouch that has a gun in it, it will stick the gun to you so that if you let go, it'll teleport into the pouch.

I initially thought that this wouldn't be as fun as games like Audiosurf because it didn't auto-generate tracks. Boy was I wrong, the custom track community is quite expansive.

Admittedly, to get the maximum amount of fun out of this game, I would recommend installing mods. Install the BeatSaver downloader mod so you can easily download new custom tracks ingame.

Just as fun as the original, though I do recommend playing that first as the audio combined with the graphics do make more sense. Don't worry, a lot of the puzzle elements are changed around in this version, so some of the stuff you remember won't be there anymore, or will be different.

Also, while the store page says it requires room scale, it doesn't actually need the 2.0m x 1.5m. You do want enough space to reach around the machine and press the buttons but there is a teleport function, and you can also teleport items into your hands. And it works on Oculus just fine, but be aware that it doesn't have button prompts for the Oculus Controllers. When it says to press the touchpad, you have to click the analogue stick instead. And it uses just the trigger to pick things up, rather than the grip button.

Auto-generates tracks from your music. Doesn't feel quite as smooth and satisfying as Audiosurf 1, but it makes up for it with it's fantastic workshop support. Tons of community gamemodes and themes for you to try. And I mean, you can always just buy and play both, like me.

Very beautiful game. If you're looking for a story in the style of a Hollywood movie, stay away.
If you're looking for beautiful scenery and good characters, get this game.
I love to come back every so often and play free roam, or just replay the main story.
