TLDR: Some people get paid to throw ♥♥♥♥, some are idiots that jump on the hate train. It's a great game, start to finish. It's got a great storyline, a great narrative to tell it and insanely good graphics and directorship to convey that narrative.

So a primer first, this won't be your typical pros & cons review.

Call me a dinosaur, but I come from a world of Gothic 3 s and BAD II s and such. If you don't know the references it doesn't matter. These games are examples of great games narrative-wise, directorship-wise and design-wise. They were also impossible (well, actually improbable) to finish because of their bugs. Did we enjoy them? of course we did. We even learned some life from them growing up.

Roll forward to 2021 and we have CP2077. Some kids see a few skinned meshes in T poses and a few cars flying up because of a misplaced collider not playing alone with the physics engine. What is different now is that these kids don't see the great narrative and world-building behind the game. They don't see the existential dilemmas put forward by a gay coder that tries hard to recreate the experience of her childhood by diving deep underwater to where it had been the town that she grew up in - drowned now by corporate wars.

Well, why would they see it? They expect the same old pills they've been taking, they don't even see the insane graphics they've been presented with raytracing and stuff - these are all givens now. Instead they watch a few YouTubers with a few million subscribers ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all over the game and decide then that the game must of course be bad then (well of course they must be telling you the truth, they are famous ain't they?). So these kiddos give the final verdict: "This ain't what we have been promised! We were promised NPCs going about their businesses - but they are just traveling up and down the street!" Chorus: "This is a scam!".

Well, wake up.

I get that me and a few such dinosaurs like me are from a different generation. We have grown up in a different time and a different mindset. We that have enjoyed the buggy "Gothic 3"s and we that have appreciated a moment's silent darkness in the beginning of a Space Odyssey. We - who were by no means perfect - but who were trying to see beyond witch hunts and with a willingness to appreciate. I know, I get that times have changed. But I gotta say, when some industry standard ♥♥♥♥ comes to play with people getting payed to start a hate train, it makes me sad to see the majority of young-lings jump on that train.

Always sad to see people throwing stones at the "witches" - just because they are told what and who to hate.

With the 2.9 update blender has become THE most powerful modeling / rigging / animation / sculpting / 2D (what?) and Movie Editor (really, what??) tool out there. Oh and it's completely free.

Characters are nicely written, and the world is as well. It lacks a little bit of depth to it, however. 7/10

Good old fashioned mech-on-mech action, nicely executed.

Simply amazing.

In terms of strorytelling, this rpg provides an immersive experience with a story you won't guess from the first gameplay hour. It's epic and it's character dependent (to a point). The optional pre-made characters enrich this story, even if the player does not play one (they can also be rectuited as party members).

In terms of rpg gameplay dynamics, the potential this game offers for character skill variation can result in absurdly overpowering characters, yet the level progression system somehow compansates; resulting in a feeling of powermonger.

On top of these, all dialogues are voice acted, graphics are beautifully stylized (ne can especially find the richly colorful style goes quite interesting with story) and the game camera works wonders.

As a result, I was quite happy that I backed this game and it was honestly better than I expected.
