Imagine this game had a trailer like the JC3 Firestarter trailer and then it was JC4.

This game is so boring, story is so dead, cutscenes so arse that I dont even know what I'm fighting for.

The whole ''oh Ive been defeated I need to start from square one'' is a fair enough way to progress a characters growth but comparing to jc3, the grappling hook and its boring balloons, detract and whatever the other one is (its that ♥♥♥♥ idk what it is) really feels like a downgrade to the simple boosters and retract tools to these new tools.

The characters are lack luster ''omg lets bring back sheldon but old omg he was so good in JC2'' yes sheldon is a solid character but now it just feels like seeing that one alcoholic annoying family member again. And the first time you meet Sheldon he plans to do the same plan as the Stingray base in JC3, personally those missions were a slog and why theyre gonna recycle it again idfk.

Who am I even fighting for? Wtf is this Army of Chaos? It literally seems like the new Saints Row cast. Yes, realistic quirky hipster group is realistic but cmon I dont want to seem like a baby sitter to these repetitive ''go to A - Destroy, B - Destroy, C- Dest... Etc Etc''. JC2's side missions were actually fun with the triad missions.

Now I type this, why isnt there any money system and I know JC3 had no money system but for JC4 a money system may have made a good structure for doing these repetitive missions.
Yes unlocking areas unlocks new guns and vehicles but with the mess of a map, grapple, ''feats'' and supply menu with its disgusting controls, I really want to spend as much time away from that menu.

Reviewed negatively in the past due to the launcher absolutely tanking 60fps to about 20fps after playing for an hour or so.

But, this has somehow been fixed and the game is a LOT more stable now.

Personally, gunplay is very satisfying and outside of missions blowing a mf with a point blank shotgun blast is satisfying af. But inside of missions on hard difficulties enemies will tank like 3 shots of a shotgun inches away. Yes I get that I'm on hard but buffing enemy health and lowering player damage is just cheap now.

Driving is mixed because you get the roar of old muscle cars but every car seems to wheel spin on every little turn and the high pitched noise just becomes old then. But the gunplay drive by shooting is quite neet, targeting either enemy, engine or wheel can help you decide on how you may deal with side missions or enemy/police chases.

The story is brilliant, the way its told through a documentary style way, present and past is artistic but the pacing (even when rushing through the territory missions) is still quite slow.
And with the mention of different types of world events, notably Vietnam, MLK Assassination and Riots, its evident the writers had done a TON and gave a lot of love into the story writing.

However, I will say that for some reason, this isn't a mafia game. Its not a GodFella's, Sopranos, MAFIA 1 and 2 game. It's a Louisiana Crime takeover, rags to riches game.

I will say that the game could have had more of a feeling of becoming more powerful and the boss of the districts or even some place to call home. The old Scarface game allowed you to spend money on items for your mansion and balance the heat of gangs and police and I wish this game took inspo from games like this. Because, youre essentially going around, single handedly killing these bosses with nothing but info from associates. No one really comes up to you and goes, ''Oh so and so is here, Ive killed the guys who were meant to be with him so hes alone'' kind of power which really sucks. And for the 3 underbosses to constantly give you slack about your ways of choosing the districts and rackets it seems you cannot please any of them when theyre remotely equal.

Overall, I know it sounds like I'm slandering this game and I am for some of its features or lack there of. This game is my ''dirty pleasure'' with its fun gameplay, abilities and settings (especially the music). So honestly, if you have the money and the game is on sale, give it a go. The story is slow but the cinematics are beautiful. This game may have won a cutscene award or setting award but theres none of them lol.

cant afford missiles to drop onto an enemy colony?
fill a cargo pod with what is basically an explosive cow and some fuel onto their base and spread their hearts and minds on the lawn :)

I see great potential for this game! :)
but...
Enemies are way too hard, theyre able to shoot you with too much accuracy and your health is way too low to take on multiple enemies, plus theres not enough health packs (im not even sure there are any in the game) and there arent enough food stores. For the second mission I died twice because enemies would just rush you, this game can be really good and I definitely see the potential, so I'll try to keep up to date with it :)
