"Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death" - If this sounds to you like some B class action movie then you're not that far from the truth.
This little gem here is the proof that with low budget you still can do wonders. It is a character action game well mixed with comedy where you, Mr Briggs, gain mysterious Mayan Sacred Warrior power and go on a quest to save your GF (and the world on the side). Sounds cliche? The game knows ;p
Humor is very well crafted, the titled Mask of Death, Tep, is our comic relief sidekick (I adore the trope, not gonna lie :3)...or we're his sidekick as he claims...but Marlow himself isn't a grim counterbalance at all. Oh no, he's the party buddy. There may be a lot of cliche but the game is completely aware and points it out, sometimes jokes on the 4th wall when you use a "conveniently placed turret", makes everything explode...but I should stop spoiling the fun though :3

The game side is more than well done for what it is. It's very easy to tell it's low budget with the linear areas, clever no-motion cutscenes, a lot of side-game filler activities but then the execution is spot on and thus doesn't sting at all. More so it even makes a nice, coherent combination. If you played original God of War games you will see lots of inspiration in progression and overall design which I think is no problem at all. If not broken - don't fix.
Combat is more extensive than one could expect, we've got weapons, spells and a few other abilities to unlock and upgrade. The combos are juicy looking and satisfying which once again definitely proves that it's not lack of money that prevents from delivering good combat and plentiful combo's. It's the lack of imagination on the dev side. The only thing the combat flow here lacks is the combos fluidly chain together but then given the variety the player can decide how "stylish" their playstyle will be.

This game is a gem, if you like the genre do give it a try. Such a shame there won't be a sequel. Considering the creativity and witty solutions I can't begin to imagine what could've been accomplished with some real funding.

A weasel that wants to be a bird (I feel that...)

Looked cute, never tried a mad-run game like this before...tried it and I think I love it :3.
The feeling to sprint down a dangerous obstacle course in 1st person is great. Can feel the rush building up - the speed, the quick thinking, the struggle to survive the run. It's all plain amazing.
Furthermore the game looks stunning and I wish I had a more powerful machine to fully embrace it. Tiny story but it's in there, some nice humor too. The natural challenge and the achievements work very well with he game itself - greatly reward practice, observation and persistence which I deeply appreciate.

Just 3 levels which makes it more like a demo or proof of concept that passes the trial with flying (heh) colors. But that's why it's free to try out. I truly wish there was a full game out of it someday and would love to see this little one get more attention as it's well deserved :3
