So this is gonna be a fairly detailed review so if you want the TL:DR version then BUY THIS GAME! If your a fan of the turn based rpgs it will be both nostalgic and brand new :D

now then onto to the more detailed review. so despite my recommendation to the game it has its problems but for every bad thing this game does both intentionally and unintentionally, it has 10 good things to out way it so keep that in mind :)

PERFORMANCE: Lets get this out of the way. the games performance on low to low mid range tier pcs is kind of bad. to be fair its not unplayable for me granted im running an Graphics Card with 3gb of vram on a 8gb of ram pc on windows 10 with a 6 core cpu all of which is AMD now the game runs at a 25-50fps in most city areas based on time of day population and location. busy streets with cars and lots of pedestrians will cause lag and how the game deals with lag is it slows everything down to a slugish blur my recommendation is lower everything as possible you will lose out on the really nice graphics but the game is still quite nice and charming even on its lowest settings :3

STORY: Ok so this games story has NO RIGHT BEING THIS GOOD IMO Yakuza Like a Dragon's story is well paced narrative with likeable characters with goals morals and personalities unique to themselves and im not just talking about your party members im talking about side characters too like quests givers or even one time appearing random world encounter characters. But i digress the story is great i don't want to say anything about it to ruin it for anyone who hasnt played it yet but it's really well done it keeps itself from being too serious while also keeping it really emotional in the first 10 or so hours ive been playing it for the game has had me happy sad angry sympathetic annoyed blushing, cringing and in awe all within 10 hours!

GAMEPLAY: So for this portion of the review im gonna need to split this category up a bit since Yakuza's game play is kind of a mix bag and explaining all 3 areas at once will be a little too difficult so i shall explain it in their own areas the core gameplay can be summed up as such Exploration, Combat, Minigames.

Exploration: Now as far as i know at the time of writing this review the game has only 2 forms of transportation Walking/Sprinting and Fast Travel. The Fast travel system is done via taxi service the player walks up to the cab marks a location pays a fee and you are transported to one of the various districts within the game this can be quite expensive after awhile especially in the early game. the cheaper but argueably the more annoying but better way to travel is by walking to each quest marker and location this is because one walking around and exploring the various districts within the cities can reward you with items and *chests*
granted to counter players exploring so freely random battle can be triggered if some hoodlums or gangsters see you then your forced into combat which depending on how good you are can either be 2 mins or 5 mins of your time speaking of which.

Combat: This is something i have a love hate for in some regards now Yakuza's combat system is a dynamic turn base combat system which is really nice because although alot of fights might be similar most of them won't be exactly the same. in the game the player and their party can perform one of 4 core actions Basic Attacks (usually running up and slapping the enemy with a weapon), Skills (special moves/"magic" like breathing fire or a cool punch), Guarding (blocks the enemies attack automatically for one turn), and finally etc (this is for stuff like using items or summoning a ally to do a special move like the lobsters from the trailer). but on top of all those moves things get a bit more interesting with the addition of the environment being taken into account so things like traffic cones, garbage bags and cans and even park benches can be used as a weapons temporarily these things can be used to knock an enemy down in the same turn as your standard attack allowing you to get bonus dmg off or it can disrupt your opponents next attack. this with the fact that Yakuza's combat doesn't freeze means enemies are constantly moving and strafing and stepping around like in a real fight this is both good and bad as if you take too long during your turn a enemy might step close enough to try and swing at you for some extra damage as well as sometimes enemies might line up perfectly or clump together on accident which would give the player the ability to hit more targets at the same time or they might move close to an environmental object briefly allowing you to deal extra damage. I have a bit of an issue with this as sometimes i wish we could manually move our own characters during the turns so that we could make oppurtune attacks be more frequent especially during boss fights.

Minigames: Now this isnt too big of a section but its pretty decent. Yakuza has quite a few mini games from karaoke to playing cards or collecting trash off the streets these games are great for getting items and money which is needed fairly often as money allows you to heal fast travel and buy armor and weapons from vendors.

GRAPHICS: The games graphics are nothing too impressive on first glance it seems fairly tamed but the particles from the specials and stuff is where this game shines imo

SOUND: Music is pretty good nothing too fancy but i do appreciate it although the battle theme is getting a little old now XD as for the the voice actors i love em all right now some people sound kind of the same but i do enjoy them my only gripe is that sometimes when pedestrians get pushed aside in cut scenes you can hear the sound of the shoving happening but not the voice of a person being shoved like no grunts or excuse mes or anything despite the fact they seem like they are saying something at times. other then that sound is really good pretty solid.

Anyways to conclude this game is great please buy it I have yet to get all the dlc for it cause covid has cut my finances in half so i can't really talk about all that stuff just yet and i still need more time to beat this game but once i have i will edit my review if anything changes since ive beaten it :D

WARNING YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FRIENDS XD

This game will destroy friendships, question relationships, and create trust issues XD if you think playing mario party is the bane of friendships this game will make you hate each other.

real talk great game fun with friends but a little lackluster in online random play a voice chat feature would be a great addition if your great with social interactions very outgoing and a sociopath you will see great success XD

When i bought this game my balls and ♥♥♥♥ retracted into my body by the amount of alpha energy required to play it but now that ive clocked in a few hours on here and after several hundred deaths my balls have dropped to my ankles my ♥♥♥♥ is now a elephant trunk and my voice sounds like a guy who would be named JEROME!
