I'd like to see the end of this game after 29 hours of game play. It's a shame that I've crashed 6 times in a row in the same area.

A great throwback to a legendary game. Really hearkens back to what I liked about the orginal Descent games that I played in the 90s. It has a nice level of polish on top of that, but doesn't dramatically change the formula.

The exception to that is the upgrades system. I don't know how I feel about that system, it doesn't take a lot away from the game: as a casual player I was able to upgrade my favorite weapons without wasting a ton of time looking for upgrades or resorting to a walkthrough. But at the same time, there's nothing exciting about finding secrets.

After completing this game I went back and played the first few levels in a source port of the original Descent. This game does elevate the genre from a gameplay perspective but, surprisingly, the plot of the source game was better - even though the new game has voice acting.

Pure recaptured nostalgia. When I go back to games I played in the 90s they rarely feel as good as they did back then. This game captures what those games felt like. I can't wait for the next chapter.

What's that, you say? Denuvo rootkit? How about an uninstall and a negative review?

Edit: They're removing Denuvo. Thumbs up now. Good game. Enjoyed my time with it.

Grindy. Played for a few hours... very quickly realized that it was putting roadblock after roadblock in front of me and that that was the "fun" of the game. If that's what you like, I'm not going to yuck your yum. Go nuts.

That's not what I'm into, though. I've already got a job that sucks the life out of me with endless busywork. At least the nightmare is that is my employment has the decency to pay for my house. And car. And whiskey (to cope with said nightmare)

All that aside, I really really like the aesthetic and tone of the game. That's what drew me in and kept me playing for a few hours after I realized what a bummer the gameplay loop was.

Came to do some practice. Found I now need to create some account to do anything and give them my email. This isn't what I paid for.

A complementary blend of Dark Souls and Metroidvania, served with a side of Star Wars comfort food.

Not terribly difficult, but you can't become complacent. I'm bad at Souls type games and beat this on Jedi Master (Difficulty level 3 out of 4) only dropping down for two boss fights that I found obnoxious.

Currently tied with Control for my Game of the Year, 2019.

Man, that was fun. Turning of Anti-aliasing fixed the crashes I was experiencing. Then it was just running around killing fascists for hours and hours. Fantastic.

Edit: This game is actually alright. Just know what you're getting yourself into. Changing to recommended, but keeping the text of my previous review (Which was Not Recommended)

Look, I get it. You guys like your hard games. I grew up when every game was hard, then over time they got easy. Then they got too easy. Someone remembered hard games, but apprently their mother drank too much when she was pregnant with them because what they decided we needed was this hipster ♥♥♥♥-measuring hard but somehow boring game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I hate Demon Souls, Dark Soulses and all that ♥♥♥♥. Those games are boring as hell. (I spent the better part of a decade writing business software, don't argue with my credentials when it comes to knowing boring when I see it) They replace coherant world building with obtuseness and don't-look-behind-the-the-curtain writing. (See Also: Lost, the tv show that everyone praised then relized was also garbage) This game takes that idea and runs with it apparently. I can't tell you with any authority, since I'm done with this game. Back in 2014 I heard the Disasterpiece (big fan, btw, will probably buy the soundtrack) saw the trailer and put down my money. Then I waited, lets see, about 18 months for this stylish abortion. I made it about 30 minutes in to the game and, being the smart guy that I am, pieced together what the next few dozen hours were going to look like. (Spoiler alert: some cool Fez-inspired forum-bait bogged down by hours of frustrating combat)

Here's the thing. I don't have that much time. At this point, I've spent as much time on this review as I have on the game. I'm just hoping I can save someone else the frustration. And frustration is the word. The game looks and sounds and feels gorgeous, but it gates that away behind challenges it doesn't earn.

Bring the downvotes, they are delicious to me.

Fun Twin-Stick Shooter. Great same-screen co-op experience.

I played this game mostly on a shared computer with my coworkers. Usually there were at least two of us playing, but sometimes we'd get four in there.

This game has a happy, enjoyable atmosphere, and offers some challenging gameplay. But there's not a tremendous amount of depth. Once we beat the game there wasn't a whole lot to bring us back. We powered our way to the end over the course of about 3 weeks grabbing time whenever we had the chance. Steam doesn't really track time well for Family shared games, so I can't say for sure how much time we got out of it, but no more than a dozen hours.

Still, we had a fun time alternating between this and Duck Game, depending on whether we wanted to co-operate or kill each other.
