While not the most balanced in the series, it offers new challenges and strategies that are overall great additions. The reworked Golden Ages and Politics are some of those advances.

On the negative, diplomacy and religion feel messy and chaotic, especially in the middle of a standard run. Overall, this is still the king polished 4X games and you can tell a lot of love went into advancing the series. 4/5
