It was decided in late 1998 that there should be a clan for the crapper Quake 2 players in the UK. Clan 666 was formed but after consideration it was decided that this was far too serious a name for a clan of its nature.

Clan SPAM was formed shortly afterwards. Its name relates either to all that lovely junk email that we all receive or to our favourite pressed meat product. No one knows (or cares).
