i don't get it
the game looks visually phenomenal, and the level of interaction with whatsits and whatnots is really high. And that's, like, that's it. The gameplay in this game is very eh - you can shoot, and you can walk. There's barely any weapons, there's barely any nuance to the actual gameplay, there's hacking minigames or something. It's fairly competent and average, as far as video games go. I don't think it really elevates the medium at all, or presents anything that I wouldn't want to miss. I guess other than being able to larp as a homeless person, which definitely never gets old, as I rummage through boxes and shelves to put more bottles of booze into my bucket that I carry around at all times.

with so much content, you're bound to have runs where the game is giving you practically nothing and you're stuck in the '♥♥♥♥ start, new run' loop - not because you're sub-optimal or not reaching peak efficiency in the first hand, but because you keep getting random planets for single pairs and high-card in the store and not a single joker, with the ante round being the wall. But when it happens over and over, it really makes me wish the game was designed more to be a game where you at least had the illusion that these kind of runs were still doable.
But when the stars align, you realise that it's because, well, the stars aligned. I feel nothing when numbers go big and mults go uncontrolled - I didn't do anything to achieve that, just got a run where the rolls weren't simply awful.

was there ever any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue with the simple activity of playing video games without having additional account systems piled on top of it that come with their own stacks of errors and issues that you have to hope to god that one of the random solutions on the internet is going to solve them?

new mechanics and visuals, but since it's now magic nonsense, it's not really fun to figure things out since, well, it's magic nonsense

it's like an incredible indiana jones movie that's 20 hours long, but an absolutely terrible game with really basic gameplay that doesn't really allow you to do much with it - the actual 'game' parts feel like an afterthought so that it wouldn't be a fully animated movie. Open world parts are a slog compared to the more directed and scripted set pieces. The future of video 'games' truly is grim, thank you neil druckman

The game still has potential to fill in the SWAT 4 niche, but don't be fooled - it is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ far from a real release it's kinda disgusting that they called it 1.0.
Basically, it's still full of bugs that make it really unplayable - making AI is difficult, especially in a game where the concept is asymmetric warfare - RoE exist to make it so much more difficult for you to plan, execute, and survive. The AI always has the home turf advantage, and they are supposed to be irrational actors who might not care as much as your squadmates that they are not coming back home alive. Creating an AI that isn't fair, but 'feels' authentic, is a challenge. What isn't a challenge is that the game has tons of simple, unaddressed mistakes, such as flashbangs having the wrong morale decrease symbol and they actually *increase* suspect morale on specific maps. Or multiple maps haphazardly connected into single huge maps. Or penetration being completely incorrectly coded (for example: only cares about the material type on the surface the bullet initially hits, but ignores that some models might be made out of two or more).
Maybe next time don't withhold the testing branch from everyone who bought the game? Having the TRUE :tm: supporter edition that was THE testing environment because other plebs didn't pay enough was truly the decision of all time.
