Enjoyed the atmosphere in this mod, some of the transitions between levels were cool, level design is okay. Solutions are usually there on the surface, but it might be hard to execute some of the ideas to solve the puzzles.

After I completed this mod I checked walkthrough on youtube and figured that in 7 and 10 levels my personal solutions were odd, that gave me a little bit of hadache while playing, but that's my problem I guess.

Not a fan of 11 & 12 levels due to solution mechanics.

8, 9 and 13 were nice, I liked the last one as well, although people tend to dislike 14 due to timing mechanics and stuff, but timing is not a big problem if you do everything right, trust me.

Overall i would say this mod is 7/10, great work ABNTGeneric.

Tbh I think this mod is too hard especially when you haven't recently replayed portal and portal2

Some of the puzzles were fine, others were not. Mostly the skill-based puzzles were frustrating, but not impossible. I didn't complete 14-Time due to a bug(?) Apparently the turret does not focus on the player through a portal like in the original Portal, and instead will aim at the player across the map. There is probably another solution to this puzzle, but at this point I'm just fed up with it. It started out good, but in the end, some solutions were convoluted.

I absolutely love this! I love the challenge, and I love the story. The elevator scene and the end scene were pretty great, too! Voice acting was amazing, as well. And I like the characters; I don't know why, but I took a near-immediate liking to the one with the turret defenses stuck, haha. I'm super excited for episode 2!
On another note, there were a few bugs here and there, but nothing that interfered with the gameplay. I still had a great time!
Oh, and the song at the end was pretty neat! The soundtrack in general was cool, mind you.
I was bummed when it was all over, I was hoping it would go a bit longer! Hah, well, it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for making something so awesome!

Too Hard. But cool
SpielSatzFail Apr 7, 2019 @ 1:19pm
I was about to like what you created. The puzzle ideas were fine, the execution was... at least ok in most cases. Some timings were too close and the final one was just impossible to do! Feels like an insult. The collection didn't convince me to give single chambers a thumbs up, but the final one convinced me to not even praise the overall collection. Too bad >:-[
I'm begging you to listen to what the community says and to do it better next time. Please understand that Portal is a PUZZLE game, NOT a game of SKILL...

So, it's Feb 15. Where are new maps?

The worst colection i ever played. Good story but boring puzzles without sense. So bored

I don't know how to feel about this series.

When it's bad, it's bad, but when it's good, it's amazing.

However, it does have the story going for it...

It's worth a try. Just make sure you have a "get out of jail" noclip bind, as this series can get fairly annoying at times.
portal bump Oct 8, 2018 @ 1:57am
2/5.
This series really does a good job at making timing puzzles, but unfortunately thats the problem: It's all timing. I had to stare at puzzles for hours until I realised it was some stupid timing or some puzzle that required luck. The High Energy Pellets are certainly nice to see, but the way they were incorperated didn't feel right. The only thing keeping this mod from it being a 1/5 is the visuals and voice acting, even the storyline felt a bit odd to say the least. I just really don't enjoy this map series at all.
MochachinoBean Sep 29, 2018 @ 4:07am
great idea puzzles could have needed some work though, some were just not possible with out noclip and that pains me to say, I hate cheating but there was no way with out it on some parts unfortunately
Severity One Sep 23, 2018 @ 9:29am
In the end, I simply stopped playing. Too often did I need a walkthrough video, but most of all, most puzzles require split-second timing and repeated attempts before you actually manage. Despite the good-looking maps and remarkably good voice acting, at some point I'd just had enough.
Lepo Sep 19, 2018 @ 3:08pm
Pretty bad collection 4.5/10
The pros stops at maps design and custom music/voice acting. Ok for the Hammer editing skills, but that's far from enough to make good maps and puzzles.
I stopped playing at map 6. They are all the same, frustrating timed based "puzzles". The one that need random bounce to be solved (number 4 if i remember correctly) is very bad.
I really suggest making super easy puzzles instead of stuff like this.
This collection gets a lot of attention because of Hammer, but it's vastly overrated. Have no idea why mediocre maps like this are getting PC Gamer's attention and so many far better maps on workshop are ignored...
Sorry, nothing personal, but this kind of unfair things makes me angry.

i agree with what lord pigfoot said, but i will say that i love the elevator part and the ending a lot. im hyped for this
hestia.is.bestia Aug 26, 2018 @ 12:56pm
How did these set of rubbish maps get so much unwarranted attention. There are plenty of better maps out there with actual puzzles.
Lord Pigfoot Nosebeggar XVII Aug 26, 2018 @ 5:36am
Some levels were enjoyable (12 - Implications very much so), most made me want to kill myself. So many puzzles rely on perfect timing or sheer luck. It was frustrating as hell but the levels themselves LOOK great. They just don't play great.

What the author seemed to miss is what made Portal 2 such a good game: it made you feel clever. Timing puzzles and doing the same thing over and over to get it just right after you know how the puzzle works are just frustrating.

I rated those I liked with a thumbs up and those that i hated down. I won't rate the pack as it is quite obvious how much effort went into it and I don't want to weigh down the scales on any side.
I hope you keep on making maps and I hope you take people's criticism by heart for after hours 2.

Also I liked your voice acting and the story!
joshuachris Aug 25, 2018 @ 8:36pm
has a lot of luck based tests but other than that, I like to see where this goes from here.
there hasn't been any good maps during 2018 so,it will top all the those.
but comparing to past hammer maps , it needs a little work.
valerka273 Aug 21, 2018 @ 1:09pm
Now it did occupied "best week" maps, nice job.
Disko24x7 Aug 20, 2018 @ 6:28am
The maps were... "okay" visually (if extremely dark in most areas), but it gets incredibly frustrating as it's not clear what the player needs to do to solve the harder chambers and it usually relies on unconventional solutions (and, looking at people's solutions to some of the chambers, a few puzzles seem to rely solely on luck or perfect timing).

I like to think I'm very competent at solving difficult puzzles, but the frustration of trying to solve an unconventional puzzle eventually wore out my patience, and I just started skipping levels/using cheats just to progress.
It's one thing to solve a frustratingly difficult puzzle, it's another thing to solve a frustratingly difficult puzzle only to realise there's 20 more difficult puzzles waiting to be solved.

In short, my experience of "After Hours Episode 1" doesn't give me high hopes for "Episode 2".

P.S. General Portal 2 map-making rule of thumb: NEVER use grey textures (e.g. cinderblocks) for portalable surfaces.
Delta Aug 19, 2018 @ 5:20pm
Personally, i enjoyed this. Their haven't been many maps like this in a while, let alone 2018. It was enjoyble for me.
jusFono Aug 19, 2018 @ 2:27pm
What @Corrupt said, it started out promising, but it became very frustrating and unrewarding. I expected some good puzzles, not skill-based and luck-based situations.

The story was very vague. For example, they expect you to know what the test elements are and what they do. As someone that already played both Portal games, this makes sense, but not in the story.

Overall, I think that this first episode should be reworked so that there are actual good puzzles that people can enjoy.
[AUS] Midnight Aug 19, 2018 @ 3:20am
Tough maps, most of them required unconventional thinking to solve.

Definately NOT for the portal rookies out there. I got as far as map 1-10.

I had one problem with the map 1-4-Spike, the last test before the exit gave me a VERY low fps issue. other than that, the maps were fine.

Great maps though!
c_kelp Aug 18, 2018 @ 1:06am
It started off promising but became extremely frustrating. I wouldn't recommend.
cochetmichel49 Aug 17, 2018 @ 11:11am
I tried the complete serie. I congratulate you for the quality of visuals and the story, specillay from the 6th. But they are, for me, out of portal game : if it is usual to test and try, the flings and moves are, for me, too tricky for an amazing time. Anyway, bravo for your efforts, i am conscient it took too many time to create this serie.
Diametheus Aug 17, 2018 @ 6:04am
Two things to know before you try:
a) This is an execution-based series of maps. Puzzles are conceptually simple, rare.
b) Levels range from underlit to extended pitch black sections. Some flickering.

Nice things:
-Music and voiceover are pleasant.
-The restrained architectural sensibility.
-A couple of newish elemens.

Not so nice things:
-New elements aren't as frequent as you'd expect, nor are their implications fully explored. The orange one does not work as expected in the presence of multiple objects, which is where it's used. They lack signage, which works due to low element count.
-The texturing and lighting are both incomplete and hard to parse.
-Voiceover implies story, and there really isn't one.
-The mod trolls you a few too many times.

Personally, the combination of finickiness, darkness and time pressure meant I had a miserable time.
Robotato Aug 17, 2018 @ 2:20am
Why are most* of the tests skill based? Is that the point?
Unowninator Aug 16, 2018 @ 5:37pm
I love the red bounce fields. They're so unique and work well.
GuyGallant Aug 16, 2018 @ 3:13pm
This has a lot of things going for it. But there are also things going against it.
To put it simply, the levels are clunky and unconventional. Half the time I'm not even sure if the answer to the puzzle was the ACTUAL answer. There's a lot of waiting and timing, which isn't fun.

One of my biggest problems with this...is the energy balls. I can see why they were removed in the base game. They're slow, inconsistant, hard to grasp in concept, on and on...I enjoyed the levels that DIDN'T have these energy balls, cause then you didn't have to wait or properly time things. (Well, that second one isn't true, there's still of lot of timing in the puzzles) When you mess up with the energy balls, you have to restart pretty much the entire puzzle, and it's really easy to mess up with those things.

While they were simple in the first game, that's cause it wasn't used in a "clever" or convaluded way.

Overall, I ended up getting more anger then fun from this. (I gave up on 1-7...)
Queen Beelzebub Aug 16, 2018 @ 6:45am
Ok I've played this some and while I liked this idea a lot from a story aspect (at least for a beginning) the level design was not the best. I found myself unsure if an area is a portable surface or not with how similar the textures looked. While hinting was there it was limited to where to go. Some puzzles felt like there was no solution to them because of the lack of hinting there was. Overall, I think its great but what is holding it back is some help from the level to better understand the puzzle.

(P.S. Uncle Dane posted it on twitter which is why I looked into this)

Fivealive007 Aug 16, 2018 @ 12:47am
I tried to get into these levels but i just can't. I absoultely hate timing elements that require me to be quick in puzzels and this was just full of them and some of the levels were too dark. I endded up just not completing most of them because they just frustrate me to the point its just a chore to continue or to figure out what to do.
Pinsplash Aug 15, 2018 @ 10:57pm
you should work on Portal 2.1 with matty120
SpielSatzFail Aug 15, 2018 @ 10:37pm
Wait... "The second half is planned for release sometime in Winter of 2019!"
You should change this to "beginning of 2019" since it is misleading, don't you think? :-)
valerka273 Aug 15, 2018 @ 2:52pm
My TLDR on first episode:
* Unclear story (we'll know it later, right? it is just beginning)
* Amazing voice acting
* Great cutscene at the end
* Almost completely bts areas
* Weired (for me) level design: generally one-trick things, even complicated PS: Mel was easier for me
My scores: 7.5/10 — good that there is new stuff, but I personally like THE LONE FUTURE STARTER, Cosmogony and, of course, Portal Stories: Mel a bit more. However, you should try this to get is this chamber style OK for you. If not, skip boring parts and watch story.

P.S.: I'd like to watch a movie based on this mod :). :p2blue::p2orange:
