New Settlement Who Dis 2

Description
This is a port of the original 'New Settlment Who Dis' from Warhammer 2. Check it out
here and give Groove Wizard and John Austin a thumbs up and some support!

Description
Ever wonder why the Dwarfs would reconquista Black Crag and just leave it with that infidelious name? Or why the Greenskins would occupy old Dwarfen holds and, out of respect for their blue brethren, continue to call them "Karaks"? Well, wonder no more!

This mod renames settlements based on the faction and race occupying it, so when a settlement is conquered by another faction, the internal script checks if there's a unique name for that settlement/race or settlement/faction combo, and applies the new name if one is found. This enables, for instance, Karak Ungor to be renamed as Red Eye Mountain if it's occupied by the Greenskins.

Whats new?
Aside from updating the mod to work with Warhammer 3, I've added a handful of new settlement names.
Some of these have been added by myself but others have been inspired by changes from other mods, such as:
Conveniently this means these mods are also compatible!

I've also added the idea of a 'fallback' race. Several races in the game will use names from other cultures in the event they don't have a unique name defined. This provides support for races added by mods as well. Here is the current list.

* I am aware that these aren't a perfect fit but in general these names would fit better than the normal names in most cases. Care has been taken to exclude some of the more specific alternate names (eg Neuland is only for the Empire). See below for instructions for recommendations/requests if you have some better ideas.
** The mod does not currently contain any renames for Warriors of Chaos.

This should work with Immortal Empires Expanded, provided the regions have the same keys.
The Old World is currently not supported (regions have different keys) but open to suggestions for region names (see below for requests).

Known issues?
I've been playing with this for a while but there are still some things to call out.
  • MCT options have not been thoroughly tested.
  • Not all regions and faction/race combinations have been tested.
  • Changing MCT options mid campaign will refresh settlement names but the updates won't reflect until the UI is reloaded. Moving the camera away from the settlement and back should refresh things properly.
Let me know in the comments if there are any issues and I'll see what I can do to resolve these.

There is limited support provided for Realm of Chaos but I don't think I've setup MCT options for all the regions.

Submodding & Requests
Before making a request make sure you check the sheet[docs.google.com] to make sure the region doesn't already have a name.

Otherwise, check out the instructions on the original mod page. All requirements still apply, so if you're making a recommendation I need to know which region, what the name is, for which faction/race the name applies to, why the name is suitable and what category (loreful, iffy, translation or goofy) the name applies to.

If I'm not responding or don't accept your idea, thats fine because the mod is still sub-moddable and very easily expandable. The instructions from the original mod is still valid as well.

Credits
Massive thanks to Vandy/Groove Wizard for giving permission to port and upload this mod to Warhammer 3.
This mod would not have existed without John Austin, who had the original idea and co-created the original settlement names.

I suppose a general update, unless something is majorly broken, I'm not planning on adding new cities outside of major patches (ie 7.0) where I'll review the comments and decide which ones are being included.

@killjoint666 I'll try and make some time to check this out.

@Elchardus Where have these come from, are these translations?

@K. Probably not going to touch the Araby names. They aren't like the Lizardmen where the other factions wouldn't know what the locations are called.

Open to the Bretonnian idea.

Ahh I was wondering about 'Catacombs of terror', I wasn't sure why they changed it. I can make it so it is only named that for the dread king.

@Antagonistes I don't spend much effort testing this without MCT, so while it works, it is effectively required and makes my life easier if more people use it with MCT.

Is it necessary to put MCT as a requirement knowing that the mod can function without it?

Thanks for the mod! Some ideas.

1). Arabyan cities can be renamed with translations when they aren't under OvN Araby (and TKs?) control. Quoting the wiki:

Copher - City of Spice
Lashiek - City of Corsairs
Al Haikk - City of Thieves

2). For Bretonnia Fyrus can be renamed into something like "City of Saint Origo" / "Holy Monastery of Origo" because it was once conquered by knights, who built a monastery there.

3). Ka-Sabar probably shouldn't be renamed for OvN Araby because lorewise it was an Arabian city, which was resettled from the ruined TK city. The name sounds very Arabic, even if in the lore it came from the TKs.

4). OvN Lost World renames Pools of Despair as Catacombs of Terror: it's the starting position for OvN Dread King. Maybe when not under his or other undead control it can be renamed back as PoD?

For Araby it can be renamed to Gardens of Bel-Aliad. Bel-Aliad was a nearby settlement in ME, and it's absent in IE. OvN Araby puts "Gardens of Bel-Aliad" landmark there.

Ydok4, I'm playing as Clan Angrund and I took Karak Angazhar, but it is still reading as Vidovdan.

Hey Ydok4: I got some, a brewery hold called Karak Horn at Pirate's Current where Sartosa starts and Karag Elgramazul for Massif Orcal. :D

@Autumnchain Happy to add more but I'm just the maintainer. Give me recommendations and I'll consider setting them up

@Antimatter Where did you find this information?

Classic skaven stuff
Antimatter Feb 5 @ 1:51pm
The Altar of the Horned Rat was a Lizardmen city at one point, but the Skaven dug huge tunnels beneath the city and sank it into the ocean since it was a coastal city.

Say, I noticed that your mod changes racial capital names to the unique name of the special herdstone they can build. I made a mod that adds more Special Herdstones to the Beastmen. Please consider adding more Beastmen renames based on it.

@A Secret Third Thing Dwarfen already should keep Gronti (If everything is configured properly, it should just be them and greenskins that have it). But there is no elven name so these appear to be the options we have available. In lieu of an official name, it isn't a huge stretch to see Eltharion taking over Soqotra as his base.
