.50Æ Ghost's Left 4 Dead 2 Essential Addon's Guide :)

This guide aims to bring L4D2 up to the current day, with some QoL improvements, immersive realistic weapon skins, a few improved weapons, challenging hordes, a few memes in relevant places, and also make the game more fun, which if you follow it correctly it will.

Mostly From my posts in a similarly titled discussion, and edited for this guide;
Someone requested what are the essentials, I think this did pretty good job, so I decide to turn into guide.

Mostly this guide is for Weapon Skins, of which I have tested countless workshop uploads to find the ones I like best, based on their look & feel, do they blend well with the game, and punchy sound effects, but there are also some other good addons including campaigns, survival maps, survivors, items, hd skyboxes, funny/fun stuff, and more.

I've attempted to make the guide idiot-proof by giving sufficient warnings and explanations where needed, and by selecting addons that work together without conflict for the most part, just be aware of the few instances where you choose between two or more skins.

Make sure to check out the 'Ante up' section towards the end for a specially requested Super Hordes,
& 8k-10k Tank HP, for the full effect.

FOR BEST RESULTS for this guide, you must read all the following text with a bit of a Davie 504 accent. If you do not know who this, pfft, nub. *SLAPP* Educate yoself.

Atencion! a la user (error this, do not make)

IMPORTANT!! When launching Left 4 Dead 2, at the Main Menu do not click anything until all add-ons have finished loading! When the Circle loading bar has finished, addons have loaded and you can click things.

Heed this, if you click the addons button before they have finished loading, whichever ones you had enabled/disabled will be reset and you will have to configure all that again. So, to avoid having to reconfigure which addons you have enabled and disabled, wait to click anything until all addons have loaded.

Of course, if you have subcribed to multiple addons at once (be careful about that), and it is the first time you are loading, they will all be turned on by default and you will have to pick and choose which ones you want enabled if you have subbed to more than one skin for the same weapon to switch out as you please. (if you sub to many at once wdim by be careful? well most folks multiplayer 'i can't join/they can't join' type errors are usually resolved by rolling back to before you were using a certain add-on. aka on/offing them one at a time to figure out which one. so it's easier to trace back which one that is that's giving you trouble if there are a, less of them, & b, you have more breadcrumbs of memory, oh yeah & that's when i installed & tried that one, to actually trace more efficiently. so ideally its best to test one or few at a time.. you will find many work together nicely this way but also, where the line is lol)

However for the most part all the addons in this guide work together, however there are some specific cases, if so, it is mentioned in the guide what to do, or which ones to choose between enabling one at a time. Obviously you can't have uruk-hai infected common and xenomorph infected common at the same time, so enable/disable accordingly. Simple enough.

Remember, if you are joining other's games, simply navigate to addons, change viewing "all" addons to "scripts", and disable the 3 weapons scripts found here, (The M16 pulse rifle stat script, the deagle, and the AK47)

If you are hosting locally, feel free to leave those weapon scripts turned on, your teammates will gain the benefits of the accuracy, ammo, & damage & firerate, despite not having cool looking weapon skins like you! But be advised, you may have to disable skins for the special infected ONLY, if you are hosting locally and want others to be able to join. Everything else is fine, its only the special infected addons that you need to check off here.

Use sv_consistency 0 in the console in the lobby before you start the game,
(so players are not enforced to have exact same files/addons as you) and also

sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0

This allows players to join mid game and not just from the lobby
After you put these two commands in to console the first time, you will only have to start typing them and then press arrow key down to select and put it in console and then put the 0, so it's easier the following times

Also, please do not comment on my guide being one of those people crying about people locally hosting; there ARE addon's that you do not get to experience any other way than local hosting, they simply won't work on best available or official servers alot of the time, so it's stupid for people to complain about local hosting. Hosting locally allows you to personalize and customize your experience of the game on a level that otherwise often does not work. There are enough discussions on l4d2 of people crying about local hosting, so doing that here when a suitable reason for doing so has been given is just not contributing anything. Now, on to the guide :)

Now with these two weapons my friend, you can save your teammates even when they are the noobiest of noobs.
Well almost. If they are that noob there is no saving them. But with these tools you are much more efficient at quickly saving your noob pinned teammates, who have 0 awareness and have not learned the basics of a 20 year old game, Pfft.
They do not SLAPP bass, is probably why they are noob.

I think u can leave this on -- if u are using the super hordes, we will get to later, it has those same AI can react faster changes, but maybe it doesn't matter if u leave both on, i am not sure.
if i change one addon, i tend to turn off what i was using before unless they work together ok or I want to go back to what i was using before. but it is not often and only a few i switch between because these addons are epic.

Lastly for this section we will add one more weapon script and a sweet skin for the Ak, you will start to notice as we add more weapon skins how they compliment each other nicely almost a theme going with the night sights and realistic color schemes.

Remember ; Joining someone's game? Navigate to scripts section of addons, turn ak, deag, and pulse rifle off. Hosting local for your favorite crazy map survival or campaign? Switch them scripts on, baby, and leave em on to yer hearts content, marvel at your teammates varying degrees of levels of being conscious enough of their weapons behavior to marvel at their sudden ability to not suk at teh game, lul, & save their teammates much more effeciently. BUT remember if you are hosting locally for others to join you may need to DISABLE special infected addons, the hunter one seems okay to leave on, but spitter, smoker, etc. you may need to disable for some others to join.

&& it is a good thing that neither Bully Maguire hunter or Xenomorph hunter affects the hit box, which means this is the one exception to special infected; you should be able to local host with one or both of them on and people can still join unlike some other special infected addons you may need to disable for others to be able to join, such as smoker, spitter, boomer.

ALSO be careful when subscribing to addons, it's best not to subscribe to too many all at once, in case one of them prevents you from hosting local server that others can join, then you will need to turn them all off to host again and turn them back on one by one according to your own priority, to roll back to before it was preventing you from hosting locally. So it's better to subscribe to them one by one so if something changes you know which one it is and you can unsubscribe from the problematic one more easily.

This is not at all necessarily dependent on 'conflicting' addons, they can show red text indicating conflict sometimes and it doesn't matter, and it may not be the one conflicting that is preventing you from hosting locally so that is important to take note of. However None of the addons I have shared here should give you any problems of that sort.

I can tell you my friend that many, MANY weapon addons from workshop were tested before finally settling on these as the best weapon addons, if you are not nub, that is.

for throwables, pipebomb reborn and the 60 molotovs.. for healing items there is a high quality pain reliever and an original first aid kit.

Lately I found this & tested, it looks good, seems to work okay with other addons here, except maybe the molotovs, well, it kind of still works with it lol, the only thing here is you may need to choose between 60 molotovs and this if it bothers you the rag hangs out of the extended item wine bottles sometimes but the 60 molotovs do still spawn, though not as often, so if you want to use both and the rag doesn't bother you you can leave both on, if it is -1 immersion for you the rag then you must choose between 60 molotovs and this extended items
its good though because the pipe bombs look better and changes the healing items up so they dont always look exactly the same

u can also change spitter and witch but idk im testing addons right now to see which one is giving me trouble, I think maybe if you have special infected addons it can stop ppl from joining when u local host so u can use them when you are joining not hosting, except I think bully maguire one works fine hosting maybe lol cos im pretty sure it doesnt change the hitbox at all.

the xenomorph hunter will actually work with the Bully maguire hunter which is so hilarious, and since it doesn't change hitbox I think you can leave this on when hosting local and folks can still join, but

but as I said if you are LOCAL HOSTING u may need to disable addons for SPECIAL infected so others can join, unless if it doesn't change their hitbox at all it may be fine.. but u may have to sacrifice and disable those, to host local for others,

but Weapons ones should be fine!! (just disable the weapon addon you don't want to use if you have subscribed to multiple skins for same weapon and want to cycle out and change between them, use one at a time) : )

There are really a lot of campaigns on workshop, and out of the tons of them there are, there are little gems and gold nuggets you can find.. just be careful again about sub to too many addons all at once, better to try them one at a time... so when something stop working u know its one of the last ones you sub to and you can figure out which one it is.. trust me : addons conflicting, no big deal, cos u can turn them on and off.. but when one is causing u to not be able to load into local server or cause people to get disconnected when joining your local server, and u can't figure out which one it is for several days, it is frustrating..lol..

MOAR (Skybox, Katana, Car alarm)

one more thing I found you don't have to get just one of those katanas, you can have all 5 random spawn, and that book he is talking about, the book of five rings, by Miyamoto Musashi, I have that book right here next to me ; )

so u can unsub from just the wind one I showed u and get all 5, they look great
i just found; u can use this to make your katana unsheathe in the most Epic way, also shows it nicely when u looking @ other wepon & show nicely the differently engraved habaki's when unsheathe

however i discover the only problem with this addon is the w_model (third person) will be seen as katana sheathed in scabbard so that's sort of no good.. but, up to you if it bothers u or not, maybe single player only, but not if u & ur friends are all using dis guide, up to ur discretion, there is one there in the comments who said they fixed it but idk how to do that vpk stuff

you may or may not need it at all, in fact, but you may see less errors in console about muzzle this or that, if you do, you can use, if u notice no difference, unsubscribe ; ) (if you experience crashes and cannot trace it back to anything else consider unsubing from this legacy particle effects, I have not noticed any crashing problems lately with all mods but just saying it is the only one that has some mention of this in the comments, however I do not remember what ever weapon or addon it was originally for that I was using in conjunction with)

also if you are joining instead of hosting u can have some addons conflict and it's ok, like if you have both bully maguire for hunter and xenomorph hunter on, it will look like the alien xenomorph hunter, but it will still do the tobey meme's sounds : ) epic lol

if u want auto shotty recommends or military sniper or sthing lmk ; )

oh and remember if you are trying to join a server and it kicks you & says something about enforcing consistency for a given file just turn off your 3 weapon scripts so u can join it will say relatively what it is, (or sometimes it may say for boomer or spitter or smoker.) then turn them back on when u local host : )
good thing is the weapon skins u don't have to give up either way,

put simply pretty much when you join a game, u can use special infected addons, when you host u can use the epic weapon scripts : ) weapon skins will be fine either way. so just disable scripts/special infected addons according to if you are joining or hosting.

Xenomorph Special Infecteds

for special infected if you are into the aliens and xenomorph ones lol there are xenomorph spitter, boomer, hunter (nice one), and smoker (also nice, lol really long aliens 2nd mouth LOL)

Xenomorph Hunter (works with Bully Maguire Hunter!) (also might be only one out of special infected addons u don't have to disable when hosting local, for some reason Hunter addons is less temperamental than smoker/spitter etc ) I could be wrong but from my experience I think usually the special infected that cause temperamental joining errors for players are most often spitter, smoker and boomer, as though sometimes they try to enforce even with sv_consistency 0, but who knows lately I have had my special infected addons on and ppl are still able to join, but maybe not every1 that would otherwise be able to is able to connect so maybe not every1 that would usually be able to join can, this is why I put so many warnings about this using special infected addons, it's up to you, you have to weigh when you want certain settings, of course if ur friends have the same scripts and specials as u then its fine :)

Fixing L4D2 (aka Jockey: wat do)

as we all know, the frame 1 lunge from 8 ft away jockey b****** is the most obnoxiously absurd broken annoying thing of the game

& lastly, I can post more campaigns if people like, The best auto shotgun mods I will list here as well and roughly the difference between them in terms of reload time, lastly here are the auto shotgun mods and roughly the difference (timed) in reload times.

This one might look the best, but it has the longest reload time at about 6 seconds, (roughly 2 more seconds than the vanilla, that can make a big difference in hordes!), and some people do not care for the sound effect. But, it looks very cool.

This one is probably the best all around, and the shortest reload time, at about 4 seconds, it might even be slightly shorter than the vanilla reload time by about .2 seconds, and maybe it's placebo but I can't tell or not if this actually chokes the cone of the shot into a tighter spread! It's also pretty cool how the reload is a cylinder like a revolver, just a nice something different for one of the weapons like shotgun. The sound effect is also not bad. The sight here continues to fit with our 'theme', e.g. it matches the AK and other weapons nicely.

there are higher levels of the tank you can go up from there if you wish, but 8000 seems good balance with the super horde -- I think by default in survival it uses versus hp for tank, so 6000? So using this to make it 8000 as if on expert difficulty feels pretty fair, above this u will need 4 survival competent players, but there is HP levels above 8000 if you need to go to 10k or 15k.

If you are playing solo with bots / randoms, I recommend 8K HP tank.
If you are playing with 3/4 friends who are very competent L4D players, I recommend 10K HP Tank.

Now the Super Hordes Lite is probably the most important and I just found out, that if you install that M60 300 round mod that I just found, in the wrong order, it will mess it up. So do this; everything up til now is perfect,
first, subscribe to Double the Commons (from this we are only after the additional fallen survivor capability) and then the double ammo M60 mod, load up the game and let addons finish loading before clicking, decide on your weapon skins and common infected skins etc., THEN close the game, & subscribe to Super Hordes Lite below. If you do it in this order you can use the M60 mod and have 300 bullets for it. IF YOU SUBSCRIBE TO SUPER HORDES FIRST AND THEN THE M60 MOD IT WILL MESS UP SUPER HORDES AND WE DON'T WANT THAT. You will be able to tell Super Hordes is working from the 900 ammo for weapons (and the size of hordes lol). If things are not working, leave double commons and double M60 ammo on, close the game, Unsub from Super Hordes Lite mod below and then re-subscribe to it.
& trust, you are gonna need every last bullet lol

always adjust to if your game experience is smooth and less buggy, the less amount of addons on at once to achieve what ur after the better;
but i did handpick most of these included in the guide for the tested fact that they will work with multiplayer okay for the most part

I had both of these two before, I had to unsub at one point from a bunch of addons to fix something, but I think they both work fine, try and see. the leg one might've caused some weird floating with the survivors if there were other addons for that character or something (as in replace nick with bill or some such). but it might work now. Trying to get someone to make an addon that replaces the common infected Horde music with "Hello Zepp", but in a way so that it does not spam the song, like maybe a 5-6 minute cooldown after it plays so it doesn't play again so soon, and also make it to where it doesn't play over Tank music or Finale music.
Until then, u can listen to the song on your own if you like..

QoL part 2

These quick revive addons let you apply the adrenaline shot directly to someone who's down, instead of always having to take it yourself and then help them, which kinda makes a lot of sense if you think about it.
