Paintable Prop Modular Rocks

Description

Introduction

This is a pack of 26 unique rock models. These are huge assets suitable for covering mountains and creating cliff faces.

These are a PROP version of previously released modular rock sets, as opposed to buildings. This has some advantages but comes with additional restrictions. The biggest advantage is that they are now paintable. They also have some size variations now.

However, it means they're more difficult to use in the map editor, and this version requires Adaptive Prop Visibility Distance.

This is the only way I could think to get paintability working right and I've had enough requests for alternate colors that I just want a futureproof solution. I'm pretty burned out on these xD It's so tedious to upload and test them every time.

These were originally modeled by IceKazim. I licensed them through CGTrader, reduced the tri count on most of them, created even smaller LODs, and recolored the textures to match existing rock assets. I put a ton of work into optimizing and configuring these for modern Skylines standards.

Paintable

By default these come in a neutral light grey. You can add (almost) any color you want using the prop painter mod.

Unfortunately, CSL only allows for one color overlay channel, so a grass covered version of these isn't really practical.

Features

- These rocks don't conform to terrain, so they can be raised and lowered with Move It to reside within or above the terrain as you wish. This allows you to ignore slopes entirely and build completely vertical or overhanging cliff faces.

- Most of these rocks have rendered bottoms, meaning you can hang them in the air. This increases their tri count, but provides a lot of flexibility. You can even build rendered caves!

- Every one of these is water friendly. No water glitching.

- I've balanced the LODs to look good from a distance without being unreasonably heavy.

Use

- You'll need some sort of anarchy to place these properly. I recommend using Prop & Tree Anarchy, which allows you to place these anywhere you want.

- These should be under the park props menu or something.

- These require a bit more patience to use than traditional, terrain snapping rock assets, since by default they float in the air. Use Move It to nudge them into place.

- Unlike the originals, the "formations" no longer terrain conform. People seemed more interested in using them clipped anyway.

Technical

- Main model tri counts: 360 - 7860

- LOD tri counts: 180 - 1178

- Main model texture size: 2K

- LOD texture size: 256 px

Rolling Forward

The modular rock sets remain one of my most popular workshop assets and I'm grateful for the support. I'm also super burned out on rocks right now though. You're welcome to retexture/upload these if you need to adapt them in any way (just credit please).

I might do more rocks eventually, but I'm not very good at them yet (remember that I didn't model the originals) and frankly I enjoy doing trees more. So don't hold your breath xD

I can not get the rocks to go up and down. They only conform to the terrain. I have Prop Anarchy and Move It. Even going into Move It, and changing they coordinates, they refuse to do anything but conform to the terrain.

People complaining about the size of the assets. Skylines should be played with minimum 32GB of ram if you want to use mods and workshop assets. These are a huge detailing benefit and I would recommend them to anyone interested in detailing.
