RoboCop: Rogue City is an incredible gaming experience for those who grew up watching the original iconic movie or love the character. Teyon's ability to land Peter Weller to do all the voice acting work on RoboCop made this a must-play game for those who love this franchise.

The beautiful graphics directly pulled everything fans loved about RoboCop and RoboCop 2 into the game, heading in a new direction. You’ll find many fun areas with movie Easter eggs sprinkled throughout Detroit as you play, which I loved. Even the intro level immediately gave me goosebumps since you got to blast enemies away to RoboCop’s main theme song. Let me tell you, I was in awe right off the bat, thanks to that moment. I was hooked and excited to sit back and continue playing from that initial rush.

This game is not just some basic generic FPS game with the RoboCop license but pushes the lore forward. It’s a fun story with RPG elements and the ability to be a cop. It was fun issuing tickets in side quests and scanning for clues in RoboVision, just like in the movies. Even the targeting when ADSing is so cool since it does the famous green crosshair and everything. Again, all these little touches from the films were a rush to play since I felt like I was RoboCop.

All the sound effects, gunplay, gore, and even RoboCop’s footsteps and classic one-liners are here. Whenever you breach a room, the slow-motion kills are fantastic and memorable. Honestly, if you watched the original RoboCop and RoboCop 2 movies, this video game, yes, a video game, has a much better story than RoboCop 3 to finish the trilogy. It’s better than that abysmal RoboCop 3 story, the weird RoboCop TV show, and that “meh” RoboCop remake. This game’s story goes in-depth to show you the human side of RoboCop while allowing you to RPG-decide how to handle all the situations coming your way through dialogue.

RoboCop: Rogue City continues the story from the original two movies and ties everything together nicely. All the familiar faces are here, from Anne Lewis to Warren Reed. Even some magnificent flashback film moments will blow your mind when you discover them. All the tongue-in-cheek humor is here, just as it was in the movies. I laughed out loud at all the sightings of the 6000 SUX car and posters of TJ Lazer.

Now, this game isn’t free of faults. I found a bunch of bugs, even what seems to be a broken level. The game played fine for the most part, except for the Street Vultures mission and area. It’s bugged since the minute you get there and start roaming around, your frames-per-second drops dramatically. I was getting 400 FPS consistently but could barely do 20 FPS at that specific level. Once I completed it, the game played fine again. Even after I restarted my game, machine, etc., that particular level did not play as intended. I have no idea why, but others have said the same thing.

I also felt the voice audio was broken. The volume of when characters spoke was way too low, even for RoboCop’s lines. This drove me nuts since you can tell that Weller put a lot of time and effort into this game as he says a ton of lines, but you can barely hear his iconic voice. That’s even with the voice settings turned up to 100. The voice-acting audio levels are generally off and often end abruptly in cutscenes.

At first, the side quests were fun, but many were repetitive, especially towards the end. It reached the point where you know the ending is coming, so I’m not sure why a few more side quests were added when you’re dying to get to the end. The game should have been done with side quests entirely in those final areas and be all-in on that climactic race to the end.

Speaking of the ending, it was excellent! I won’t ruin anything for you, but the plot twists were great. I was very invested in the story, and overall, it delivered. It felt like a warzone, and I loved all the detailed explosions, debris flying everywhere, epic boss fights, and the fun weapons encountered along the way.

This was a better way to end the RoboCop trilogy, not the nonsense called RoboCop 3. Watch the first two movies, disregard everything else after that, and then play this video game. You’ll feel complete again, that they did the story, and most importantly, Weller as RoboCop, justice. It’s a fitting way, decades later, for Weller to seal the chapter with his most famous character in a way that wasn’t dumb or embarrassingly bad.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a 4/5 for being mostly a video game gem, especially for franchise fans. As a kid, I grew up watching and loving that original RoboCop movie, so this was a great trip down memory lane. I enjoyed the second movie, but the first one will always be in my heart since it was perfect, especially the movie soundtrack. Everything after these first two movies is trash, and I’m happy this game was made to make things right. The gameplay is fun, the story is memorable, and all the nostalgic sound effects, levels, guns, and recurring characters were brilliantly done. It’s not a perfect game due to bugs, glitches, and the low voice-acting audio levels, but Teyon still did a solid job here. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves RoboCop to finally play as him in a video game that does him and this franchise justice.
