I can only recommend this game on sale, so by default i do not recommend.

NEGATIVES
1. Forgettable Characters
2. Forgettable Plot/Story
3. Clunky and boring combat (counter, hit, counter, hit, repeat for every single enemy).
4. Exploration is almost never rewarded.
5. You don't know when you will move into new area where you cannot return.
6. Some transitions are just annoying (vents, gaps, even climbing) mostly because it is slow, nothing happens, and your camera is locked for an annoying period of time.
7. DLC is tiny, and well, unsatisfying - although I do like the ending kinda, just seems kind of a waste.

POSITIVES
1. The game is quite beautiful.
2. Animation is pretty well done, it feels like it fits.
3. The game is pretty easy to learn, and you don't get lost often if at all.
4. The GRP is fun to use.

They remove half the game. 90% of the reason I played this game (filling tribute hall etc).
Then they add some homing rocket launcher bs that can kill an entire team instantly.
They don't care, because people pay thousands for skins and vehicles and dlcs (which are repetitive AF, literally do the same thing 10 times over the 10 weeks...).

tl'dr;
They ruined PVE.
They are ruining PVP.
Story is so messy cant event start.
Charge full game prices for DLCs with less content than some demos.
This is bungies cash cow.
The grind for power (to even get decent gear) is crazy, drops aren't normalized so have fun getting the same drop at same power 10 times in a row (which you can only do once a week).

Positives:
The world is cool. Looks ok. Raids can be fun with friends.

I think the community needs to setup a self-help group for people addicted to this game. People putting 100's or thousands into it for very little return.

Pros:
- It is a fun game, lots to learn if you learn all civilizations.
- The skill ceiling is high so plenty of room to improve by various strategies and micro management ability.
- Campaign is cool, with some documentary style live action video explaining certain periods and culture.
- The mechanics are pretty basic, but have a lot of depth. I mean you have a few different resources, but each civ has their own advtantages, research, unit types etc.
- It looks pretty, sounds good, plays well. When it doesn't crash.

Negatives:
- Campaign is small and doesn't touch every civilisation.
- Auto-generation of maps are unfair, you are lucky to have things on your side or unlucky if the enemy, for example, has a cliff, and you don't. Like one team having a corner trader and the other half way down the side, or mis-matching cliffs or wonky sacred sites.
- Online games sometimes crash part-way (possibly exploiters doing this). This hasn't happened so much recently.
- Score calculation seems almost redundant. Some scores don't make sense. It is very hard to see how well you did compared to others based off the end game statistics.
- They buff civs that are already top tier, and nerf those below it, making the balance even worse.
- They said they would re-work water, but I don't see much difference at all since they removed it due to community out-cry.
- They break stuff that works fine before. Now it is super tedious to get sheep right under the TC for example.
- They literally cannot balance late game. Some civs just out-perform others in late game and on equal footing one civ has no way to win.
- The UI is pretty bad, and user experience in general is lacking. Some things you can easily miss like a win condition. End game screen constantly bugs out and goes invisible. Statistics doesn't show what you would expect, and is always confusing.
- You can get into a game missing a team mate, it doesn't seem to check before starting the game. Now you lose elo/rank because it is 2v1 or 3v4 or worse.
- You can't turn off the chat filter, and sometimes it filters too aggressively.
- Matchmaking is laughable, you are getting queued as a silver against diamonds in solo lobbies. Eg, 3 plats and a diamond vs 2 silvers and 2 golds.

Overall, I would rate this game 5/10.

The latest patch also adds this blue hue to some maps, which gives some people a head-ache. Staring at a blue screen for so long. It makes it harder to see units so your eyes are even more strained.

In general, the game could be great, but it lacks a lot of what other games have already solved. It feels like the dev team is small, and directors unsure of the focus that is necessary. Maybe they are lacking resources/funds. Either way, this game is dying, and they need to change something, not just add random content that doesn't address the core issues.

Unless you have enough friends that want to play this game when you do. I wouldn't bother.
Full of cheaters and griefers, endless loading screens (literally, endless sometimes).
At least you could find players when it came out years ago, now it is just griefers mostly. Last 3 days I spent (unfortunately) about 4-5 hours trying to do 1 setup with modders cloning me and spawning items, offering money and generally griefing.

I cannot recommend this game right now, it really is only for the brave of heart and rockstar won't fix this.

Early Access Review
The game has been released. The polish is there, dialog, images etc. There are a few minor bugs but nothing game-breaking imo.
It is not the same as the original Subnautica. That said, it is still enjoyable to play and find things. Base building has been expanded, but I feel like the exploration was a little less in this one and it was definitely less scary (no reaper leviathans :P).

I am looking forward to the next installment, if there is any, and hope that some more detailed exploration, and details in the areas that can be explored is put in.

The only issue is price, I would rate this at a 20-25€ game rather than 30€. It is a pretty simple game, with simple mechanics, simple design etc. That said, I still recommend it now that they have finished the game. Albeit, expensive for what it is.

--- Old Review from early on ---
Only buy this game if you want to support the development. As a game to play, I cannot recommend just yet.

I really liked the original, awesome immersion, atmoshperics and mystery. Decent amount of content. Well worth the money. This one however, there is a lot of potential but it seems in some ways it goes backwards from the original (Not being able to consume while moving items around containers for ex.). Although it is in early access I feel the amount of stuff missing makes it half a game at best. I don't think a game should use Early Access in this way. Missing Icons, Databank Entries, Placeholders, Missing Animations and no Voice Overs for any PDA Entries. It is a shame, though, I hope they finish it, so I can recommend it. For now, I would wait until they get nearer a usable state.

Love the game. Like RE2, better in some ways, not better in others. The new mechanics is a breathe of fresh air though. Highly recommend.

Every time i get near end game "Network Lag", leave and try to rejoin gives "Not Authorized".
Thought I would see if they fixed it after a year. Nope.
Only restart game fixed it, but since always at end game I die to blue zone since pubg takes a year to load on my enthusiast machine.

Rediculous. This game will annoy you more than you will enjoy it,, stay happy and play a game that gets fixed instead.

-- Update 26/06/2019 --
Game is now broken somehow. After exiting a match and the UI was broken, after restarting the game I am always stuck on the startup screen. The game turned into a paperweight.

-- ^ Update:
Turns out my ISP is broken somehow. VPN works, but not without. Not PUBG's problem. Haven't had a network lag issue for a while either. Wouldn't be surprised if all these issues were my crappy internet provider 1&1 though the original issue would be a high coincidence it happened all the time near the end of the game.

I will however now change to recommended. If I get any more issues or if the gameplay /fun goes back down I will probably change it back. For now, it seems like a fun game to me with little issues except balancing.

Early Access Review
Tried again recently. Nothing changed. Game is unplayable as PVP, literally the most janky, clunky mechanics for the sake of being 'realistic'. The idea was there, they just made it unbearable. Ah well.

Thought I'd see if anything has changed to make it worth playing, nope xD.

First spawn; Had to kill myself I couldnt wear anything.
Second spawn; spent around 30 min in the game, 2 servers went down during this time, the second literally 10 sec after joining it. I found a jumper, tried to make rags of my shirt for spare, couldnt get the option, dropped th shirt.
After 10 15 min some zombie got attracted and hit me once and I start bleeding. In an effort to patch the bleeding I tried to use my free rags I startd with the bandage, didnt get the option, only to make armband, tried that, didnt stop the bleeding.
So out of rags, no shirt, I run into about 20 houses looing for a shirt or bandage or rags, nothing. I fell unconscious.

I then proceeded to uninstall the game.

Once the server filse and modding is released, if I can change what I want to, like what gets crafted with what for example, then I will maybe start my own server and see how it goes. Until then, I'm not touching dayz again.

Official servers btw, probably wouldbe better on unnofficial no doubt.

Having no UI whatsoever and stuck with those "debug" like status messages, just the game looks really indie, completely unprofessional. From what I could tell during my short stay, I saw nothing at all changed, except the FPS was better..

update 26/07/18

Still die of starvation after about 20 minutes of trying to find enough food to not starve. 2 hours wasted again. Game feels the same as when they released early access.

Please just kill this game, move on, stop updating, officially announce this game dead. I feel sorry for the poor souls who have to work on this game and get blamed by most people that have played it . It's not their fault, it's the pile of crap left by rocket hall & co.

Why even read this? this game is mostly negative, all the comments are the same. Boring, ruined. Yes the mod was awesome. This is not the mod, go play the mod.

Good:
Better players (not less toxic, just better, mostly with mics) compared to MM, sometimes faceit.
Less cheaters (still some, as you see by users banned recently on esea pages)
Decent servers

Bad:
Paid service
Longer queue times compared to competitors
Buggy client (bugs usually occur when joining, so you get cooldowns..)
Not synced with steam updates (takes hours usually till synched with game updates)
Some people experience issues with other software or devices. (alt tab is usually a common crash with esea).
No true elo algo - hard to judge where your skill lies, several different hardly explained, confusing metrics.

Also, ESEA prevents team from recording time spent. So I had to create a dummy exe to idle for a few minutes just to write this post - that annoyed me.

I advise trying esea at least once. I have been subbed and unsubbed to esea numerous times as and when it annoyed me. At the moment, it is annoying me more than pleasing me.

I cannot reccommend this product given my recent experience. Probably not sub again after this month is over. Maybe it is better for serious league type players, can't comment though.
