It's everything I've ever asked for in a retro FPS and SO much more. This title deserves every ounce of praise it's received.

Movement is tight and fast, enemies are wonderfully varied and challenging, and every single weapon is brutally destructive with amazing audio/visual feedback. Can't stress enough the sound design either, all the guns sound meaty and hard-hitting, the enemies give clear, recognizable cues for all their different attacks, and the music slaps so hard it's actually criminal I haven't bought the soundtrack as of typing this. (by the time you're reading this that will have changed)

Every single level in this first chapter is a different memorable set piece that never drags on or overstays its welcome, being very replayable with their linear yet open designs.
I remember seeing the trailer for this game during Realms Deep 2021 and somehow instantly knew it was exactly what I'd been missing in my life all these years. Ended up sinking nearly 10 hours into its 25 minute-long demo.

My plan now is to have reached 100 hours total by the time Chapter 2 releases. Hold me to it people!

I'm having just as much a blast replaying these as I did with the original back in 1999. (still have my disk and memory card full of all my champion monsters)
While I do feel that true online play and achievements would be nice additions, as well as some more settings options like audio control and borderless windowed mode, the ability to fight other people's monsters from around the world is such a cool feature that I'm very glad was implemented.
I'm genuinely so happy right now playing this. It means the world to me.

I used to love this game about 3-4 years of updates back, but with each new change the game becomes more and more unstable. Trying to open it now is like flipping a coin of whether or not it will crash instantly, at the main menu, or when trying to load a map. Regardless it WILL crash, mods or not. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, verified file integrity multiple times, etc. The amount of effort needed to get this duct-taped together mess running is not worth the payoff.
I used to think this was the best VR experience you could have, but now it's the most frustrating one. Until the devs put their focus towards optimization, I'd steer clear of this title.

Everything I loved in Doom, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, and Quake growing up all in one game that pays homage to the FPS giants of yesteryear. Guns are fun, enemies are memorable, and level design is genius.
I truly believe this deserves a spot amongst the legends that inspired it. Nostalgia done right.

This game is great...
For the mods.
Of course the devs can't legally support mods and I totally get it, but if they ever make it more difficult/impossible to add in modded songs in the future, this game will be unplayable.
Unless of course you're a 14 year old girl because OH BOY they have Imagine Dragons!!!!!11!!1!!!1!1!

Nah but fr game is great, lot's of fun, smooth learning curve, and a great workout.
Let's just hope custom song mods NEVER go away. Fingers crossed.

I'll give it to you straight, this game peaked in 2018 and it's only gone downhill from there.
Now all that's left is a bunch of vapid weebs that sit in front of mirrors staring at themselves doing trap voices.
You'll be lucky if you join a world where people are actually, you know, DOING something.

HOWEVER, in the last almost two years of playing this game, I've met so many people who I call close friends now it's not even funny. The community has it's downsides, but every rare once in a while you meet someone so amazing that it completely makes up for the faults this game has.

This game doesn't need a review.
It's the best over-the-shoulder, fast-paced, horror shooter ever made.
Just play it and quit reading into it.

God awful controls, broken gameplay, and it's FULL of stolen assets.

Don't give these guys your money, even IF you have a coupon.

Holy ♥♥♥♥ this is an infuriating game.
Being LITERALLY reliant on complete RNG, coming in with a strategic plan backfires on you 100% of the time because you can only be so lucky for so long.
This isn't a bad thing, however, because I found that this main mechanic of utter luck makes the game very exciting and extremely fun to play with friends as each one of you will be royally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at one point in the match.
It's funny, it's aggrivating, and it's a fantastic time-waster.
One of the best online board games I've played.
