Vermintide II is some good bloody Skaven (and others) killing fun... HOWEVER allow me to yap on about a few things that annoyed me in this game. And for those who are too lazy read a few paragraphs of information I'll include a TLDR.

TLDR: In my opinion, game is good and fun, however at times it's shallow, and misrepresents some elements as being way more deep then they are. Also devs/publishers engage in some scummy practices for DLC content. If you like Warhammer, you will probably find a way to appreciate this game and have some fun with it, and with the cheap price at a discount (5-6 Euro) you will get your moneys worth.

The first campaign "Helmgart" sets things up well, it has quite a few missions, and the missions are of.. decent length. Some are longer some are shorter and so on, but you know, Helmgart is a solid campaign, with plenty of missions to play. And it feels like a proper adventure!

But then, you will see other campaigns that you can play, like Karak Azgaraz (FREE UPDATE) or Back To Ubersreik (paid DLC), but these campaigns are way shorter, from like 10+ missions that Helmgart is, you drop down to 2-3 missions. These are in fact redux missions from the old Vermintide game (Yes, there's an older game, some people who are new to this don't know that) so we can't blame devs for the length of those missions, since they are remasters of old DLC from the old game.

However from what I understand, and correct me if i'm wrong, the "New" missions like Winds of Magic DLC and Shadows over Bogenhafen DLC are not much longer then that. Which brings me to my point, the "new" content of Vermintide II, is the Helmgart campaign, which- again, feels like a complete good solid campaign but then we get these micro-campaigns like the forementioned DLC, which feel kinda..... I dunno, cheap? I wouldn't mind paying 10-15 euro for a DLC campaign but these are not campaigns like Helmgart, these are like buying a bag of chips only to find out the bag is 1/5th full.

Next are the various extra Hero DLCs, which are split into 2 parts, for no reason. The first part you buy is the Hero DLC, and the other one you can buy is the permission to customize your hero that you paid money for. Oh and the customization is not free ( BECAUSE YOU PAID REAL LIFE MONEY FOR IT) but you also have to play the game and buy it with in game money like all other default heroes?! Since you are charging money for a default game function (costumization of characters), wouldn't it at least be fair to give the (mostly just a few) items for free? No? Fine I guess i'm the crazy one. Worst thing is that some people will justify and defend developers for such practice.

I feel like the bulk of the game rests in the Difficulty settings of the game and kind of grinding the missions at varying difficulties and with completing those, you kind of get crappy rewards in my opinion, just more cosmetics instead of something more tangible and interesting like an extra mission pack for completing really hard missions or something of the sort.

It's okay with randoms in Quickplay, but if you got a buddy or 2 to nerd out with, you are gonna have a blast.

That's mostly what I would rant about if I had to point out the cons of this game.

There's plenty of Pros though, the voice acting is solid, the whole setting is great and has a bunch of potential, the visuals are FANTASTIC and the attention to detail is truly admirable at some points. Music, and just sound overall, the ambience- all that is pretty well done. And the final saving grace for this game is something that I cannot avoid in this review, and that's the price... It gets really cheap with a 80% discount, for 5-6 Euro, I think you will definitely get your moneys worth in hours played in this game, and that's a pretty big factor why I'm giving it a positive review at the end of the day.

My Wishlist for this game:
- Longer missions
- A map of some kind so people who are new to the Warhammer setting can understand where everything is and what's actually going on ( THE END TIMES ) because a lot of people have no idea that the literal end of the Warhammer Fantasy universe is happening, so that would be something i'd emphasise a bit more to the player with more narrative elements.
- Better rewards for people who actually completed hard missions.

!! BUYERS BEWARE !!

EDIT 4.3.2023. I have bought a new AMD gpu and this problem is still present. It's a much better GPU.

There is a broken level mid game, at the desert level. I don't know why it occurs yet, but it may be connected to Nvidia GPUs, essentially during the lighthouse section- as you exit a cave, the game freezes and crashes. It's incredibly frustrating to pass this section as you have to apparently lower the video settings as much as possible, not let nvidia mess with the Metro Exodus settings in the Nvidia control panel, and the entire time look at the floor as you exit the cave and get onto a old rusty boat and go up while looking at the floor. For some people this works, for others it does not and game still crashes at random spots on the boat.

AT THIS POINT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REFUND THE GAME EVEN IF YOU GIVE A GOOD REASON, STEAM ONLY WILL LOOK AT HOURS PLAYED AND DATE OF PURCHASE, AND YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH A BROKEN GAME.

4A still has not fixed this, and until they do, this review will stay as a Negative Review.

Despite it being million years old, this old gem is still very playable in my opinion. It takes some time at the beginning to get used to things, but once you figure out how basic stuff works you can freely sail through the game and get captivated by a very solid story.

There is a certain, down to earth element in this one which rings close to the first book, with the short stories. I liked how you actually had to use Cat in a pitch black crypt or use a torch for example, how you can interact with so many characters to get information about things, how each character and each region has it's own thing going on and you immediately get sucked in into the micro universe that is each region.

Sure the game has some issues here and there, but i never felt like it took me out of the game. Only thing that i regret is that there are no steam achievements...

All in all, if you are considering weather to buy this game or not, if you like Witcher, and especially if you read the books, Play it. You will not regret it.

Give it time, let it grow on you and you will love it, take your time and play all the side quests.

It's a good shooter, with lots of upgrades over the original Insurgency game.

WARNING:
However, I feel like it should be mentioned that the game itself is more arcade-y then the original Insurgency, so lots of us legacy Insurgency fans might not feel at home. The game now is split between the hardcore modes and arcade-y modes, which I think just splits the players apart, it feels like the arcade-y modes took over the majority of the game with the hardcore modes somewhere in the corner. Like why did they move the cool, realistic looking running animation to hardcore mode?

The character costumization options are okay, but I think they need more imagination, and more real world things, like Security should have more kinds of gear and camo options, Russian gear for example? Why not, Security is not NATO here, they are all mercenaries as far as i understand it, it would bring more variety.

Similar goes for Insurgents, they, in my opinion need more surplus old gear and weapons etc. Old soviet helmets for example, or guns like old ww2 guns like double barrel shotguns or the PPSH, stuff like that.

As far as game modes and maps go, i'd love to see more green maps, I mean, forest camoflages loadouts have like 1 map where they fit in, rest is either snow or desert.

In general they need more realistic options for both sides, not half robots closed behind DLC packs.

I enjoy Co-Op missions more then Player vs Player games, the AI for Co-Op missions can be really good and challenging. Maybe they should in general consider making custom made missions, like for example have players join a lobby, and do custom objectives throughout the maps, call it Operations for example, it would work like Left for Dead maybe? I don't know, a wild idea maybe, but I really think it has potential.

Okay that's about it really, it's an alright game but for now, In my opinion it lacks new and interesting content and some character.

6.5 / 10

Early Access Review
PREVIOUS NEGATIVE REVIEW.

I complained about the game having a horrible horrible bug that essentially DDOSes your internet because the netcode was goofy as f*ck and did too many requests that certain people's modems could not handle. I recommend first having at least 6 MBit download speed and at least 0.50 Mbit upload as a minimum.

After like 2 years, devs finally adressed the issue and now i can actually play with my friends. And I promised to take down my negative review if this problem gets fixed.

There are things that the game could still use:
Better development time, game is still content poor:
- More things to do, maybe one or two more NPC's that give you quests, and as reward give you limited edition sort of items for people to collect, like headgear of different kinds.
- More monsters and animals.
- Pets of some kind?
- Ship costumization.
- PHOTO MODE, PLEASE, LET US REMOVE THE HUD AND TAKE SCREENSHOTS.

Here's a short Pros - Cons list first, and then i'll add my own comment.
PROS :

- Nice Animations and art style of the game
- Lots of funny moments if you play with friends

CONS:
- No Progression
- No Content after like 10-15 hours
- Price of game is WAY TOO HIGH

I was debating myself if i should still give this game a Recommended, as sort of encouragement since they have implemented these Seasons and it looks like the game is moving somewhere finally.

Then I remembered that the Devs have been sitting on their assess for 3 years until they added a meaningful update to the game, and this "meaningful update" is like a Day 1 Patch.

The only progression in this game that you will see is cosmetic progression, there's some clothing, hairstyles, for you to buy and some cosmetic changes for your ship, separated into ship parts like sails, hull livery, cannons etc.

Quests are very similar, kill skeleton, find chest or take this item to a certain NPC. Beyond that there's Events which is essentially the same thing.

Couple of different factions in the game, and they have their own unique thing going on (mostly), and the game world is solid size, although it could be bigger.

Only 4 weapons: Flintlock Pistol, Musket Sniper, Blunderbuss and a Sword, along with some bombs.

Game will get boring for you pretty quick, after about 15-20 hours, and the only thing that will make you play it more is if you play it with friends, but that's gonna get boring soon enough too.

That's it, literally, that's it - Game has no content, and has been in this state for 3 YEARS. So it's worth buying if you believe they will actually add meaningful content to it, and make it a game that it has the potential to be, and i believe this game has the potential to match games like GTA 5, of course probably not, but i really do think it can at least come pretty close to it, if they added progression, make it more RPG-like, make the game worth playing.... But again, that's not going to happen with developers like this, unless some kind of a miracle happens.

In the current state, do not buy it unless you get it for a really good deal.
