Britain didn’t send convicts to a sun-burnt paradise, they dumped them into the sea and made up a continent to cover their tracks. 162,000 people vanished into the ocean, and the world just nodded along. What better way to erase this atrocity than to invent an entire country? It’s the Truman Show, but with more Vegemite and aggressive birds.

Think you’ve met an Aussie? Nope. Just an actor with a bad accent and an arsenal of kangaroo pictures. Ever "visited" Australia? Sorry to break it to you, but that was either a set in South America or an island with Australia impersonators. The planes are in on it. The maps are fake. The boomerangs are props.
