As far as the genre of roguelikes goes, Hades is a prime example of what can be accomplished within the sometimes quite restrictive format of the genre.

A wide catalog of characters, most with their own stories and/or quests to complete, which ties excellently into the main story. And while this is already a great accomplishment on its own, as very few games of the genre can boast to have well developed writing and storytelling, Hades goes above and beyond expectations.

The gameplay is engaging and constantly refreshing, inviting the player to challenge themselves while laying down a well-crafted combat system that can be enjoyed casually without the additional challenges the game offers for those who've mastered the smooth combat of the game.

And as if all that wasn't enough, Hades brings the point home with some of the best presentation in any indie game to date. Brilliant animation which flows together with the gameplay and never ceases to amaze in its detail, vivid graphics that fully immerse you into the world of the game and a soundtrack that puts many of its AAA counterparts to shame.

Hades is a masterpiece of a game, well-deserving of the praise it has by now garnered. An absolute gem.

Katana Zero is a story focused 2d scroller, similar to several flash games. Although a bit on the short side, the game has more than enough time to show it's strengths. The fact that the game is made by the same people who made the masterpiece that is Hotline Miami shows.

Not a straight upgrade of the previous installment, but a more casual, multiplayer focused game. Some great improvements have been made to the previous one (The Great Library no longer decides who dominates the early game), but the game is also at the same time much less predictable and as such, also has less focus on a long-term plan for your game and more on reacting to the world around you, which makes for a more realistic game. Goodbye Civ 5 memes ;_;

This is the story of a man named Stanley.

Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was Employee #427. Employee #427's job was simple: he sat at his desk in room 427 and he pushed buttons on a keyboard. Orders came to him through a monitor on his desk, telling him what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order. This is what Employee #427 did every day of every month of every year, and although others might have considered it soul rending, Stanley relished every moment the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job. And Stanley was happy.

And then one day, something very peculiar happened. Something that would forever change Stanley; something he would never quite forget. He had been at his desk for nearly an hour when he realized that not one single order had arrived on the monitor for him to follow. No one had shown up to give him instructions, call a meeting, or even say 'hi.' Never in all his years at the company had this happened, this complete isolation. Something was very clearly wrong.

The dramatic conclusion to one of the best gaming franchises in recent memory, Arkham Knight expands the gameplay of the previous installments, by introducing a whole city to mess around and beat criminals to a pulp in while also introducing a new method of transport and punishment in the Batmobile, to make up for the gamemap's increased size. The game is jampacked with side quests galore and the main story is a shakespearean tragedy to add to the excellently written previous installations.

Although it relies heavily on the previous games, it has enough content to make up if you for some reason decide to start playing a game franchise from the last installment. I'd suggest playing the whole franchise to anyone interested in Batman and/or stealth games. The ending credits even relay the events of the whole franchise, so you'll have even more reason to play the whole franchise.

Did you play Dark Souls Prepare To Die? If you did like me, then you most likely were just as hyped to see Miyazaki return to the franchise for Dark Souls III. And if you see the result, you'll see that he's still got the touch. Dark Souls III is a singleplayer adventure only compareable to the first game. It isn't really a game, rather than an experience.

Dark Souls challenged it's players to learn the game in and out and master it's mechanics to overcome the numerous obstacles in their way. Dark Souls III reminds the gaming public, that you don't have to have a story to keep the player engaged and invested in it's gameplay and lore. The numerous throwbacks to the first installment can get a bit tidious, but the experience of playing it for the first time will remind you (or introduce you to) what it means to be prepared to die.

A fantastic stand-alone game, that feels difficult yet rewarding and it never tires you with boring sidequests that feel like padding or drawing out additional gametime. It also does the Metroidvania trope very well. It never makes you backtrack for the sake of backtracking and even when you do backtrack, it's justified with shortcuts to the parts you've already gone through. The story is well written, as are the charactes and the difficulty is purely based on how much effort the player wants. The similarities to Dark Souls couldn't be less obvious, but in my opinion it actual does some of the stuff better. Overall excellent.
