Lalafell uprising simulator.

It's pretty good.

Played a little on release and recently revisited while clearing out some of the backlog.. I can't believe it took me so long to get round to this one!

There's nothing particularly standout about the mechanics, it's a cover based shooter with some squadplay, they can attack certain enemies, help each other up when downed, and use diversionary tactics to allow you to move when pinned. Nothing special.
The story line is where things come into their own, starting out as a straight forward recon mission and slow twisting and evolving into something completely different as the game progresses, delving into the horrors of war, the terrible choices that must be made for survival and the effect all of this can have even on the most combat hardened of troops. Not only is this evident through the game play, but also through the language and actions of the characters as the game progresses, usual tactical callouts become frantic and wrought with anger and emotion, and their actions against enemies can be described as less than compliant with standard operating procedures.

This is a must play for anybody that wants a solid story line with mechanics that, while mundane, certainly fit the story and keep you engaged.

Go be a hero, Captain. Save Dubai.

It's like Destiny 2, but actually enjoyable. I think Bungievision forgot that bit.

It's DOOM, what's not to love. As frantic and fast paced as the original with a shiny new engine and an amazing soundtrack.

Get out there and raise some Hell!

I didn't go into this one expecting much, regardless of my time put into Dead Island, I could never bring myself to finish it, it just felt.. well, wrong. Dying Light soon changed that expectation as I was jumping from rooftop to rooftop, electric shiv in hand, being chased by a group of particularly nasty Virals.

Gameplay wise, the addition of Parkour to what is fast becoming a stale theme adds a whole new dynamic, and against some of the nasties you come up against you're going to need it. It's entirely possible to stealth past hordes of the undead, only picking off the odd one or two who are blocking your goal, or even luring them away using the ingame crafting system.
The skill system adds a good amount of character progression and customization, offering three different trees which all level up individually.
The melee combat has a nice flow to it, transitioning from swipes and swings to crushing downwards blows, and each weapon has it's own handling style. Whether a sturdy length of pipe or a chunk of concrete and rebar pried from one of Harran's larger undead beasties, the results are satisfying, with all the right gruesome in all the right places.

Graphically, everything set to high is netting me a Frame Rate of around 55 FPS, which, reading some of the other views is not as common as everyone would like, hopefully this will be rectified in a future patch. I generally expect a lower quality in open world games due to the amount going on at once, but I was truely surprised by what I was met with. Highly detailed environments and some great character design, though finding 5/7 zombies in a small pack all wearing the same shirt is a little strange, we'll just pin it down to a local football match and carry on shall we?

If I had any major gripes so far, they'd probably be focused around the co-op aspects. It's mentioned there are 7 runners left, so why do we all play as the main character from the Single Player campaign?
I've had some noticable issues around the cutscenes while playing with friends too, occasionally one of them will jump a few lines ahead of the dialogue from the NPC, causing the cutscene to end early and leave others wondering what happened. Hopefully things like this could be straightened out in the future, they're certainly not game breaking, but can detract from the experience.

Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by Techland's latest entry to their zombie stab-em-up, and look forward to playing it more when I don't have to be in work in a few hours. With a few patches and a tidy up here and there, it looks like we could be off to an amazing start to 2015.

I like Rouge-likes, I like metroid-vania style games.. so I'm a bit surprised how this one avoided me for so long.

Bought it all of a sudden it was 6am.. I played for nearly 8 hours straight through the night without really realising. This is quite possibly one of the most addicting games I've ever played.

It's got that "one more go, please just one more go" feel to it, the classes and items all feel right, there's a good variety in the enemies, and the upgrade tree really makes you think about how you're going to attempt your next run, whether to buy that new piece of armor or grab a base stat upgrade from the manor.

I'd advise anyone with even a slight interest in rogue-likes or metroid-vania style games to pick this up. You won't be disappointed.

Even after over 3 years, this is still one of, if not THE, best RPG's I've played on PC.
Graphically stunning with amazing audio, an innovative combat and alchemy system, and plenty of content.

I'm still amazed at how much time I've put into this game without finishing it!

Solid 8/10!
