Candalua is a dialectal italian word that can be traslated as "dog of the grape". These dogs are too dumb to control sheeps or other animals. So they preserve the grapes.

It's a folk Noth-Italy methaphor for describing simple people, that are often dependent to ignorance, obscenities and alcoholism.
