Repair skill is a bit stupid....
I love the Fallout games (I'm referring to only Fallout 3 and New Vegas since those are the only I have played) but if it's one thing I'd have to choose that I dislike the most is Repairing Weapons and Armor. Now, It doesn't bother that it's there (I have no problem needing to repair things in games like Oblivion.) but the weapons/armor degrades WAY to fast! I've worked with firearms quite a bit and a Gun does not break this quickly, infact, they barely "break" at all. Sure they have to be cleaned after using them a couple times, but cleaning is WAY different from reparing. I mean after firing 3 rounds from my sub-machine gun and it's already half-broken. It's rediculouse. I want to know other people's opinions on this aswell so please post what you think.

I forgot to add something. It's also unrealistic for a Weapon's damage to be lowered even if it's in bad condition. I can understand this for melee weapons and armor not protecting aswell but a gun? No. Maybe if it was less accurate and jammed more, but lowered damage? A gun's damage isn't effected by the gun itself but the bullet(s) it's using. Not very realistic. Also, even if the gun is in "poor" condition, if it's able to fire, it's damage shouldn't really be effected.

Blame Bethesda, they wanted this degradation system (along with the "200 years later everything is still radioactive" bull*beep*) so much in the core rules. In the first three games equipment didn't degrade, you only had a small chance of weapon jamming from now and then.

I usually use mods to improve weapon condition (or to be more precise, lower degradation) because even though I can see the good things in the system, I too think it's way, WAY too fast for everything. I mean I have broken my 100% health Chance's Knife (the best vanilla knife in NV), a military survival knife on one radscoprion in vanilla. One friggin' scorpion. SO for a time I use a 20% modifier so everything essentially lasts five times longer.

What mod is that?

Is there a mod that allows you to equip a broken weapon so you can use a weapon repair kit on it?

Also does anyone know of a mod that adds an armor repair kit or something like that? Needing a perk to repair armor with anything but another of the same kind of armor when some scrap metal and duct tap should be enough is really dumb.

Heres a lower degradation mod:
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35111/?

Here's one that removes it entirely:
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34990/?

And here's an Armour Repair Kit mod:
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/36744/?

Couldn't find an equip broken weapons one. I've used the armour repair kit one for ages, it's really great. Adds them to vendors and randomized loot as well.

I think there is an option for it in Project Nevada somewhere.

Removes repairing from Fallout 3 ^

Removes reparing from New Vegas

I personally like using these 2 mods, since I haven't run into problems with them and they work perfectly.

Also, those mods affect armor aswell.

Plenty of mods. one of those crafting mods are cool too.

In FO3 I really like CRAFT and additional recipes. Haven't found a translation of that into FNV yet.

Just to clarify, Chernobyl will not be (safely) habitable for at least another 200 years. And that's nothing. What does the fallout diary say? 1200 atomic bombs were dropped? Either way, the majority of areas in fallout are low rads, (1 rad/s) which you can find considerably higher amounts even today in nevada testings sites where the first A-bombs were tested. Also, fallout is the more dangerous thing. The bombs themselves would wipe out structures, but the "black rain" of fallout would cause the most damage. There's dump sites in the US that will remain radioactive for the next millenium. Now keep in mind that according to the fallout diary, it took 2 hours for the bombs to stop falling. According to homeland security, it would take 10 years for radiation levels to be considered "safe" after a SINGLE hiroshima bomb. Keyword being safe. That means not lethal, but there would still be minor amounts. That's from 1 bomb the size of Little Boy, the name of the hiroshima bomb. The united states currently possesses a nuclear weapon that has a 100x yeild. In the fallout universe, salt lake city was hit by 13 bombs. Taking into account our current technology, the "Tzar Bomba" made by the russians is rougly 250 times more powerful than hiroshima. Even basing the numbers off of the hiroshima bomb, it would take 130 years for salt lake to become habitable.

Search for ModFusion on the Nexus. It has links for the NV edition, which is essentially three mods.

The difference is that the way we consider "habitable" right now in real life and how we would think of it were nuclear bombs to fall would be highly different. A very small amount of people still live in Chernobyl with no visible medical issues, and you can bet that the same would happen anywhere else once life becomes relatively "safe" around the area. People would definitely try to survive outside just like they do in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

My suggestion would be these two mods

Weapon and Armor Repair - Improved
http://store.steampowered.com

and

No Weapon or Armor Degradation
http://store.steampowered.com

You'll still find weapons and armor in disrepair, and your weapon can still get damage if shot, but you'll have more options in terms of repair

OP hasn't played the game since 2015, just saying...

Also, you linked to the Steam store.

I must be the only person that uses a personal mod to increase weapon degradation.
