Portal 2

Dilapidation: Part 5

Up to this point the maps were really fun. This one blew that. No direction, at all. Had to watch the walk thru and got tired of doing that. Figured I would just move on to map 6 before I got too frustrated. With a little more direction this map would be lotta fun.
Asha Man Aug 22 @ 11:33am
This series is amazing.
40ozKilla May 25 @ 11:21pm
Awesome map. Beautiful level of map detail to go with a challenging puzzle. That my friends is how you make a Portal 2 map. Thumbs up!
aniretak92 Apr 10 @ 11:18pm
Well, I had a fun time watching the walkthrough. Not even slightly interested in doing it myself. As always, never enough clues are given in the chamber design.
Sinvisigoth Mar 6 @ 1:30pm
Gave it a thumbs up because there isn't a thumb position that efficiently expresses "you are evil and I will lead a revolt if I can't get the companion cube soon" :D

The difficult ratings are interesting. The last one, rated Very Difficult, I actually found easier than this Medium one. I'm guessing the author is a whiz at mouse acrobatics and timing (or designs with a game controller in mind), and so feels those types are easier than the brain teasers. For some people, it's the opposite.
RP Aug 26, 2014 @ 11:16pm
Wow... this was an even harder one for me to solve than the previous. I looked through these comments for a clue (as I did for the last one) and saw a mention of cube throw. Regardless, excellent job. Yes this one requires more timing and skill than some folks like, but a little variety is good.
TS_Mind_Swept Jul 25, 2014 @ 7:28pm
It was a good test, but i thought i had trapped myself for a minute just before the final faith plate, but luckily thanks to some thinking (and quick portaling) i managed to get back up to that ledge where i had left both cubes (since I missed the portal falling down cause i hesitated). I had a little trouble in the room with the cube, grates and the emansapation grills (if that makes any sence) I died several times trying to jump back to solid ground, it was kind of annoying that i couldn't move the light bridge over so i could get closer to the area (I don't think a placement helper is necessary right there). Other than that it was good, i died a few times and was worried quite a bit, but it was all doable, and had nice "ah-ha" moments. 8.5/10
Natsuke Jul 18, 2014 @ 1:13pm
Haha wow, this level was a tricky one. At first I didn't know I was doing the right thing when activating the first light bridge, but it was fun when I figured out what to do with it.
DeathWish808 May 10, 2014 @ 9:16am
This one I had not played before and quite enjoyed it. Well done!

less hard than the previous dilapidation, but a map for ninjas :). skill and timming. i like it.
Ehnasan Mar 24, 2014 @ 9:14am
Dear author! Plaese, do not make any more maps for Portal 2. Please, make maps for Quake III or similar games. Portal 2 is the puzzle game, it means you need to think and to find solution. But here after I found solution I spent more than hour to bring it into life! This is not puzzle - this is bloody shooter!
Zemble Mar 15, 2014 @ 3:24pm
I cannot complete this with the super precise timing required and lack of knowlege on if I am progessing or not. I mostly got through this test with glitchy maneuvers only to get complely screwed at the end and have to restart everything. A walkthrough would be extremely helpful for this because then even I still could not pull off finishing it I would at least know how it transitioned to the next map.
I really liked the previous maps but this one I have spent the most time on (about an hour) and just cannot find a way to complete it. I had to stop because I gave myself a headache.
gotredonyou Jan 19, 2014 @ 7:30am
Great puzzle, but the demands of the portal moves are tedious. Really took the fun right out of it. Love your other tests.
Eagleshadow Jan 3, 2014 @ 5:19pm
I somehow cliped the first cube through the grating, then used cube throw to get it from lightbridge over the gap, then another cube throw to get it into last room, then a bunny hop to jump from fizzled bridge to last platform. I found this level really hard. (and the part 4 imposibly hard.)
Long Stride Dec 19, 2013 @ 10:22am
The ending required quite a bit of skill. Good map.
bibliophile13 Nov 10, 2013 @ 10:29pm
This was my personal least favorite, because of the skills needed (timing, jumping ,etc.). However it is still definately above the average quality test chamber.
big red foot Nov 9, 2013 @ 1:39pm
not sure if o got the last part the way it was intended but I got out of the room so guess it was right
mechtakendall Nov 4, 2013 @ 7:25pm
Not my kind of map unfortunately. I spent more time dying then solving the puzzle. Design 6/10 Difficulty 6/10
Robm1434 (ala Goldblum) Oct 31, 2013 @ 3:12pm
Lovely ending.
AsinoEsel Oct 18, 2013 @ 4:05am
Using the companion cube wouldn't be a good idea, since the whole map series is based on the companion cube which never gets to you before the final map. (Doors closing right in front of the cube, cube is stuck in tubes, but you can't grab him etc...)
p0rtalmaster Sep 5, 2013 @ 10:48pm
Probably a tad easier if you use a companion cube insted of a regular cube, so that we know to carry it across the fizzler. Other than that, the test is practically perfect.
apollosbeamship Aug 25, 2013 @ 3:26pm
Thumbs up ..... the ass , for the pain in the ass this was .
Scryms Aug 18, 2013 @ 9:08am
I comment because I REALLY liked the maps so far. I felt like I was cheating on this map (well, more than on the others), doing things like tossing the first cube from the cube room to the "main room" while staying on the button (I still don't know if there is another way, I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, but found nothing but frustration haha). I did also jump on the 2 cubes to get on the light bridge... Well, I did like the map anyway, just felt like I was cheesing the mechanics ! Thumbs up ofc, just like your other maps.
-=GBH=-Haggis Jul 16, 2013 @ 9:35am
Its a toss up between this map and the one before, which one is my fav so far. Loved the look of the room where the first lightbridge was. Another great set of puzzles.
Bayram Jun 4, 2013 @ 6:23am
I found this one to be above medium difficulty; maybe I didn't do it right. It was very rewarding though, definitely thumbs up!

My escape-themed chamber, "The Oubliette", is fairly large, with deadly traps, and should be a quick bit of fun for players of the Dilapidation series:
Extragamer Jun 3, 2013 @ 5:22am
That was fun! Good map!
wildgoosespeeder May 7, 2013 @ 5:54pm
This one was awesome!
piotr_mil Apr 21, 2013 @ 5:00pm
As I previously said, the maps, though looking great starts to feel the same. I was nice to get a smart light bridge puzzle, but that's it.
szymekx666 Apr 17, 2013 @ 9:28am
Finish was totally great!!
presto668 Apr 8, 2013 @ 7:53pm
I had the same problem as MetalLobster from February... the first cube would sometimes take its sweet time getting out of the dropper to the point that the fizzler would reset. I eventually got it though.

Only part I didn't like was the leap of faith to the other side of the pillar at the beginning.
kimist108 Apr 4, 2013 @ 1:31pm
Liked this one better than 3 or 4. No flupey ending and no superfluous stuff that you can't figure out why it's there and try using it anyway.
NiclO (- - ) Mar 22, 2013 @ 11:56am
Great map! Cheers!
Lylline Mar 11, 2013 @ 2:53pm
vraiment tordu, mais au moins on ne fini pas à salle en une ou deux minutes
macko68 Mar 2, 2013 @ 7:16am
Puzzle wise solid but still nr 4 remains the best of the series (an in top 10 of my personal rating). Many thanks for your work !
GWD9000 Feb 27, 2013 @ 1:01am
Good, tricky map. TUF'd. I thought this was slightly more technically difficult than 4, as well as having more potential ways of completing things. The leaps of faith/beginna-ninja lightbridge jumps are a little disconcerting due to finnickyness of portalable surfaces. That's my only real crit on this one - maybe make some of those surfaces that have more fatal miss consequences a little larger for more margin of error. You could slim them down to this map as an 'advanced' version for those with better target hitting and timing. Thanks for making it, the series, and the ones you're still making to complete the series. Cheers.
LPChip Feb 21, 2013 @ 12:06pm
Awesome map. I barely finished it. This is hard medium-hard difficulty though, maybe even hard difficulty, because of the jumps etc required.
Le Petit Mort Feb 20, 2013 @ 4:48pm
• Great sound design;
• Great level design;
• Narrative;
• Perplexing puzzles;
• Jumping puzzles;

• Jumping puzzles;
• Onscreen text! Urgh! There must be a better way!

Would've thrown me for more of a loop if it weren't for your last puzzle. ; )
LoneWolf2056  [author] Feb 16, 2013 @ 6:27am
@MetalLobster I will add a trigger push but if that doesnt work I dont know whats wrong, it works fine for me and everyone else ive seen play, its just a standard cube dropper instance. reuploading.
MetalLobster /Music/ Feb 15, 2013 @ 7:35pm
Hey, I had a problem in the room where you get your first cube. Whenever I press the button for the cube to drop, it would drop so slowly that the barrier would reset before the cube drops. I have the demo file if you would like to see it.
1980 Feb 14, 2013 @ 3:07am
Take a loot at the portalable surface just in front of the button connected to the great fizzler!! The solution is not as difficult as one might think. Putting a cube on a button at its very centre is not always a right thing![/spolier]
GeoJJx Feb 13, 2013 @ 8:39am
I never thought I would say this about the Dilipidation series (Been following it for awhile) but while the map in this part was excellently crafted, puzzles genuinely brilliant and sneaky, I did not enjoy some aspects, like the ninja skills required to make a couple of jumps, especially getting that first light bridge over. The puzzles around the central faith plate was a good idea, but it felt very unnatural (Maybe is the head slamming on the ceiling and me falling in toxic goo.) Some of the ways I solved the puzzles felt like exploits (eg getting the second cube?) But this is alright, I am just unsure if it is a valid solution. Ultimately, the map as a whole was outstanding, I can't do any better so I will just leave it at that. So far I like part 4 the most, but hopefully 6 or 7 could become awesome without it feeling unfair. I look forward to them, and if you managed to read all this, congratulations. :)
GeoJJx Feb 13, 2013 @ 8:38am
Nvm about that, I just solved it, feel like an idiot now. Ok, um... Yes, aesthetics; Gorgeous as always! Things are looking very interesting and I look forward to the next part. I cannot emphasize how well done I felt that the maps were designed. Its phenomenal and is on par, maybe more than the single player map appearances. And now to the not so good part..
GeoJJx Feb 13, 2013 @ 8:13am
Still having trouble getting second cube... -_-
Innocentive Feb 12, 2013 @ 2:51am
Best ending yet!!! :D Superb puzzles, superb style! Can't wait to play the rest...

@Catches07 Yes already added part 0 but part 6 and 7 to go, hoping to have them done by 1st March to finish the series, I have had computer problems which have delayed me, glad you enjoyed.

First 5 maps great, this one too difficult, lost interest in it. Probably needs some form of hinting where to go next. e.g. couldn't figure out how to get in upper room with button that activates flip panel in large room. Great work otherwise.
