what did you say? amazing combat system but with no enemies to fight against or content to grind for? sounds about right.

So that's why we always bought Energizer batteries

Alan Wake is a decade old psychological horror game that immerses you in its dark and paranormal environment through the thoughts of the protagonist and how it develops (or degrades) over the game.

The combat system is bland but the way the game throws its lore at you might just be its redeeming factor. Despite being repetitive as hell, the game was able to keep my interest as I tried to understand what the ♥♥♥♥ was happening and how it became so.

7/10 for its narrative and style but falls short in mechanics and keeping the experience fresh and interesting.

Changing my recommendation for the game.

After dozens of hours of grinding the end-game emissary and having the rest of them above level 65, I have finally lost the will to play this game.

I thought for once I finally found the game: no ranked rating, no progression system, no hard-defined meta, just some good old gameplay, for the experience, for the fun of it. Like sure, you can farm gold, doubloons, and commendations for the cosmetics, but at one point you'll get satisfied with your equipment and your pirate-y role play.

Which brings me to my point, why would I dissuade anyone from buying this game? Simple.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HATE HACKERS.

I play in the Asia region and I encounter hackers every week, and I play around 4 sessions per week - solo and with friends. Why bother following the "PIRATE CODE" plastered all over the game if you just get your sessions destroyed by a couple of hackers? We don't even have a lot of loot to begin with, these hackers just want to grief you so bad. The worst part about is how the hacker's characters are loaded with premium cosmetics like pets and limited-time featured sets from the premium store which goes to show how long they've played without getting banned.

This game simply does not have the tools to combat hackers and cheaters. Why don't we have a proper report system inside the game? Why do I have to open a website and take the time to file a support ticket? Do they think that every player has the capability to gather evidence and record a hacker cheating? Even the website dissuades you from reporting: "REQUIRED supporting evidence when submitting to the Sea of Thieves team" can't the developers act on suspicion alone and do their job of nitpicking the fine details from within the game - surely a player that moves 1000 units in a millisecond while holding a keg is teleporting? Why does the in-game report system only allow for inappropriate usernames and ship names? If the PvPvE game doesn't have the systems to detect hackers cheating, why?

I understand that the developers need to deliver new content to keep the player base engaged and draw in new players; but it should not neglect the quality-of-life changes and systems to keep the player base healthy. Hackers simply bring out the worst in you, it just makes you so frustrated and toxic.

Amazing gameplay, immersive sound design, fantastic world building, visually-appealing art style, easy-to-learn but hard-to-master combat, countless roleplay opportunities, all ruined by one thing: the hacker-infested community

If you have the mental fortitude to load in the game, stock up your supplies, gather some loot, complete a voyage, defend your ship from players and NPCs alike, offload your loot to the nearest outpost, all the while thinking when the next time a keg will blow up inside your ship without a single audio cue or when you're gonna get one-shot by a blunderbuss pointed straight at your spine pointblank, then be my guest and good luck have fun playing this game.

If not, congratulations, you made the sane choice.

I hope the developers see this review and do something about it. I will be uninstalling this game and refuse to touch this game until they implement an anti-cheat or a proper in-game report system that they will act upon.

MHW has a relatively small diversity in monsters, with comparison to the other games in the franchise. However, you have to appreciate how most of the monsters interact and co-exist with one another. Additional game content might be taking longer than expected, but it goes to show how the developers focus on fixing bugs and optimizing the game first - haven't experienced internet connectivity issues ever since patch, HDR rework, keyboard and mouse control optimization.
