tim and leonard seem like nice guys but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i've never been more bored playing an rpg in my life. it's a shame because the whole marketing for this game is "FROM THE GUYS WHO MADE FALLOUT" but it's not even as good as like, fallout 4, a game where the main plot seems it was designed by a 4th grader smoking crack. also there's pickle rick

Better than the sequel, although it has its own issues. Sonic's stages are the highlight, although the other ones aren't unbearable (yes, even Big) and Gamma's stages are pretty cool. Sonic controls pretty good except for maybe the light speed dash, and movement is so free you can just speed around if you know what you're doing. I think he controls better than he does in any games after this, even with all the jank inherent to porting a Dreamcast game to Gamecube to PC to Xbox 360 back to PC again.

There's a lot of issues and bugs, for sure:
-The camera is kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sometimes
-Sometimes you literally fall through the ground (this is mostly a port issue lol)
-Fishing is just... not explained super well (it's not hard to figure out through trial and error but the instructions kind of suck for explaining how you actually make it work)
-Amy is so slow she literally has trouble walking up hills
-Lighting and fog is completely screwed up which also makes it hard to see what is playable space (also a port issue)
-This isn't really a major issue but Gamma loses momentum if he jumps to an extreme degree (just keep that in mind if you play)
-You can get physically stuck in objects or on ladders and sometimes can accidentally throw essential objects out of playable bounds
-Did I mention the camera had some issues? It's not like "AHHHHH WHAT THE FRICK DUDE I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING" and you can adjust it, but it isn't perfect yet. It's kind of hard for the camera to always be perfect in a really really fast platformer anyways.
-The end of Sky Deck blows

But with all these issues, do I still suggest playing Sonic Adventure? Uh, yeah, because despite all that its really good. Like, better than SA2. There's a lot of really neat stuff you can do with how free the controls are and how... fast Sonic is. If you know how ramps work you can also just launch yourself and look... you'll just have to play it. I think it's a bit better than just holding the X button which modern games have kind of... devolved into. It's a pretty good attempt to make Sonic work in 3d and I don't really understand why they completely abandoned this style. I think it could be refined (in fact, I'm pretty certain some Sonic Chads have actually done so) but at its core it is pretty good.

I literally don't understand why people ♥♥♥♥♥ about this game so much. I didn't grow up with it at all, the only similar Sonic games I had played before 2020 were Sonic Heroes and Le Edgy Hedgy, and they control very differently from this. I'm not really blinded by "nostalgia" or whatever, it's just a really fast 3d platformer. The game is old and flawed but so is like, every Mario game people jack themselves off over or Banjo-Kazooie or whatever Scrimblo Bimblo game people pretend is super good. The flaws aren't really enough to detract from the game most of the time and when it does... get over it? I don't ♥♥♥♥ my pants when the camera in Mario 64 is awful. Why does Sonic hated more? Is it because he's a furry or something? Is it because Youtubers are bad at video games?

I could write all day about this honestly but nobody would read it anyways lol

7.5/10
Also listen to the soundtrack it's the best in the series

Janky as all hell, port or not. Still a pretty good game. I feel like this game gets a lot more hate than it deserves, probably because of the "SONIC BAD" circlejerk that seems to be so common on the internet. There's a few major issues with it though, being the camera and that characters move on a dime rather than having logical momentum, which leads to a lot of really dumb deaths around curves.

The Knuckles and Tails (also Rouge and Eggman) stages aren't really that bad. Don't listen to dumbass reviewers who are awful at video games, they're not really hard. Except for Mad Space. You know why it's called Mad Space? It's because it makes me mad.

They're still not nearly as good as Sonic and Shadow's stages, but that's just because going fast = fun.

I'm not going to try and explain the story here, and apparently, Sega of America didn't want to explain it either, as the translation makes absolutely no sense a lot of the time. If for whatever you're a complete loser (me) and want to actually have an idea of what's going on, watch Windii's videos. And then get really, really into bizarre Sonic lore if you hate yourself (also me).

The game isn't nearly perfect. Still, I enjoyed my time playing it. If you aren't complete trash at platformers, you'll probably enjoy it a bit. I give it a 7/10.

I'M PISSING ON THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOON

it's cool but it still has that old RPG jank that is really annoying. really cool setting though, different than the typical d&d setting. that and the characters are pretty cool. oh, also, it runs off ad&d2e so have fun figuring that out if you've never done it. luckily it does the calculations for you.

i'd recommend it just for the music and visuals alone. the controls are a bit of a ♥♥♥♥♥. grinding is very annoying and you move slow most of the time even with dashing. it's still kind of fun, but the game is very, very frustrating. the sequel is far better, but SEGA won't release JSRF on PC for some stupid reason.
