Early Access Review
Early acces review.

Couple of points that ticked me off and caused me for refund:

Not that many maps to choose from, I figured it would get old very fast.

The game needs a real tutorial that guides you slowly in, I don't want to google some obtuse setting I have to do in order to upgrade my villagers.

Plus if you highlight and color your objectives names make them clickable that will open a small panel of what they do/are and how to get it.

I always loved playing Dayz (Mod and standalone) and because of it i had a larger tolerance of bugs and other issues. However i recently started playing again and noticed that they removed the "Toggle raise weapon"in 1.0 and instead implemented an overly complicated control scheme where you have to perform gymnastics to raise, aim and fire a firearm. The control scheme is such a primordial thing that all other things derive from, this includes my enjoyment. So I will give this gem a negative review as long as a "Toggle Raise Weapon" functunality is abscent.

Disclaimer: I have yet to torpedo a whale, so you might want to read this review with a grain of salt.

Cold waters is a prime example of easy to learn, hard to master. The controls are logical and intuitive, a player can just hop in and play, however if you want to be (more) successful, be prepared to do some reading in the manual that Cold Waters ships with. And i must say that implementing that knowledge in situation really makes this game complete.

Cold Waters is focussing on the cold war gone hot between U.S. and U.S.S.R. off the northern European coast. (At the time of writing this review the South China Sea and neutral shipping are still in development). Currently there are mods on subsim.com that add more Nato subs and make USSR subs playable.

I won't lie, subsims are a niche game and Ubisoft dropped the ball with Silent hunter 5, however Killerfish Games picked up that ball and ran with it. In fact, I personally believe that Cold Waters might be the next subsim that will dominate the next decade, especially with the ease of modding.

I believe that KillerFish Games will only strengthen their new found position if they implement a Mission and Campaign editor in the game and thus give the community the ability to create content for themselves. This will, in my opinion as stated previously, help with the longevity of this game.

You need to install an ad-block for the amount of dlc spam you get while playing this game.
Got killed by dlc weapon, lets push an popup.
Stepped in a dlc Chopper, lets make sure we let you know that you dont have a crappy chopper dlc.
Equiped a dlc ghillie, lets water mark his screen all over.
Oh you want to log off. lets show him the dlc's he doesnt want for 10 seconds before he can quit the game.

Yes, I'm salty, and yes I like this game, but seriously, some modder needs to create an ad-block for this game.

Best of the earth 21 series.
Multiplayer and especialy single player demands a focus on resource allocation, too much of focus of 1 aspect and you probably have a hard time catching up.

What to expect:
- Pretty fun single player campaign.
- Great atmosfere, you'll see Earth degrade with each couple of missions and so creating a sense of importance and haste.
- Each faction plays differently.
- Pretty fun multiplayer, however LC's superweapon is the only weapon that cannot be countered(unless you snipe the weather control centers), so i would recommend putting superweapons off if any1 decidedes to play LC.
- The A.I. could use an overhaul, its very easy to cut its supply and wait until its out of resources.
- Units tend to shoot mountains instead of enemy units and they will not adjust fire.

What NOT to expect:
- precize unit control (i.e. starcraft)
- cake

Some advice:
Play Earth 2140 and the Earth 2150 addons, but never ever play the abomination that is called Earth 2160.
They went with features that was popular at the time instead of focussing what made the previous titles.
