My idea is to give NPC the power to collect item and block to fix themself. So, when item despown afther 5 min, it won't go simply to the void but be give to the closses NPC and be use to repair itself. The remote controle bloc will act as a projector and it will try to fix the damage from the inside out. Also, a new mission type can be to clean wreck. The way salvage mission work can be similat to the search mission as you have a GPS location and you can grind all bloc at the location. First option can be to pay to do this mission and keap all what you find. The alternative is you have to grind the wreack but the bloc give a special item call salvage you have to bring back to be pay.
